Missed you too TVK- So, amazing thing? I’ve only been playing a year but I just about managed to keep up with the junior school orchestra 😂 they can sight read new stuff on the spot (they are awesome 9 - 11year olds haha). I have to take it home and study but I’m mostly caught up by the next week. 🤣 The head of junior school music started a parent viola class, which is what got me going

I'm a singer and in the midst of these auditions - I've done 3/5 so far. I can't emphasize how important the spreadsheet thing is!! It totally helped! I did my prescreens at a cheap local recording studio all in one go, but I like the idea of setting up a backup two days. I finished all my written applications before November 1st by basically doing one application a weekend since the middle of September, which worked great and I highly recommend it. This was a great video and I wish I had it earlier! I'll keep being myself in mind for my last two auditions. Thanks!

I was in that place around this time last year ( and the year before because I auditioned for grad school twice) and I’m happy with the teacher that I’m with right now even though the school I’m at currently is not a “shining light” school. I’m currently in my second semester at Austin Peay State University which is in Clarksville, Tennessee ( it’s an hour north of Nashville) and my current teacher I actually met in a summer class that she hosted with William Bennett as the guest artist (she took lessons with him and took a year out of her doctorate to study with Trevor Wye) I’m so glad that you’re back! 😊❤️🎶

Hello! I just found your channel and I’ve noticed that you went to Juilliard. As an incoming freshman in high school who has been playing an instrument for 4 years, what could I do to increase my chances of getting into Juilliard? I’ve been taking private lessons for 6 months now and I have been accepted into my performing arts high school’s chamber orchestra. What more could I do to better educate myself and prepare myself? I love your videos, you’re so relatable and you know how to talk to people💖 (Edit: I play cello, by the way☺️)

You said that we have time in our Junior year to go visit colleges and that we should correspond the lessons with the teachers with the college visits. However, on another video you said to make the lesson with the teacher right before the audition. Should I make/send out applications And visit teachers in my junior year of high school or should I not worry about it until senior year? Also I really appreciate the videos about college, it makes me so much more confident about The whole process.
@ThatViolaKid4 жыл бұрын
You don't audition during your junior year. What I meant was--visit the school if you can during your junior year. And if you got past pre-screening during your senior year, you're going to have to do a live audition at the school. That means you'll also be visiting the school for your in your senior year as well. That's typically when you have the trial lesson. I don't think you can apply to any college as a junior under normal circumstances. Sorry for the confusion

I know this is hecka late, but where do you recommend people study music theory and composition outside of school I'm thinking of applying and maybe transferring from my liberal arts college to a music school (probably either for jazz guitar or Composition), thanks!
@graciemay51015 жыл бұрын
Hey TVK that was a really helpful video but I have 1 concern: i know that auditioning for music schools comes with a lot of competition and the kind of people I'd be auditioning with probably have a lot of background that qualifies them more than me (ie-theyre child prodigies, they've been playing since they were a toddler, they've won a lot of really impressive competitions, or have had training with really great teachers) and I'm really worried if I'm not qualified enough because I dont come from backgrounds like that to get into a school even though I love music and work hard at it (my background=I started playing the cello with my school orchestra program 7 years ago when I was 9, I love playing but I'm not apart of any youth orchestra outside of school or won any competitions, and I still feel like I'm moving to slow to get to where I need to be for my college auditions) should I be preparing anything to help increase my chances of getting accepted into a music school of my choice?
@ThatViolaKid5 жыл бұрын
Gracie!!! Thanks for the comment. You have to realize that MOST KIDS are just like you. MOST KIDS aren't prodigies. I would suggest that you continue to find extracurricular orchestras outside of your school to participate in. If you don't have access to anything like that, I would try to attend orchestra festivals hire the college teachers you want to study with. You'll always do well with meeting more people and continuing to work as hard as you can =)

Do I have to be good at just repertoire and pieces to enter college or can I enter with a music composition instead/also? I'm not thinking of going to college for performance- I know that my piano skills aren't nearly good enough- but I'm wondering if it's required to audition with an instrument for every kind of student.
@elvellarambles91516 жыл бұрын
Kyrin If you want to study/major in composition specifically, it is required that you bring one or more of your own original works lol. They may want to hear you do something on an instrument, but definitely not as much as if you were going for performance or education or therapy. Or at least that’s the way it is at my college. Your piano skills will likely be improved through a Piano Class while you’re in college later. And oh by the way, make sure the schools you’re looking at have composition programs specifically (not just “music”)! Can’t stress that enough.

Kyrin Not a problem! We college musicians gotta help each other out! I went through this process just a couple of years ago and I’m about to do it again for graduate school :) (Like maybe I should make a channel about being a piano student or something :)
@James-ix5yj6 жыл бұрын
@@elvellarambles9151Giving back, eh? Good plan. If/when I get through a music college, I could probably start a channel on how to go through the process while coming from a homeschooler standpoint. At least, if I ever get in. I'm sure plenty of people will watch stuff on how to be a piano student- there's plenty of people who are trying to learn it who probably have misconceptions about it- like, that it's always easy to learn. Been learning for 11 years, and it gets both harder and easier over time, yeah?
