Most excellent. Did something similar with my daughter 25vyears ago camping on top of an old Kand Rover round the UK. Even now we still talk about it. Torque wrench? We just use the 'FT' principle... Safe, happy travels 👍

When you are getting a fire out, maybe use grey water in a bucket rather than fresh water. Maybe use a rope and pulley to get the tyre off and on. This is a great, laid back show!😃

Love your videos the kids are doing wonderful. So is mom . There's a good tire repair called Green slime you put it in to the tire through the car stem and the tire full of air and then you drive and as you drive the slime feels the puncture it works really really good a lot better than what you were using also I would recommend especially with big tires there are some better compressors out there thought you would like to know
@evil17 Жыл бұрын
Agree the green slime is great for many tyres , especially smaller ones like lawnmowers & quads, motorbikes, etc, I use it & carry a spare bottle everywhere, it is also supposed to balance them to some degree, however in this sidewall type case I’m not sure if the ‘Green Slime’ would have sealed a tear of that size, so having plugs on hand is probably essential in this scenario too, but yeah, always have a bottle of Green Slime on hand for punctures, slow leaks & re-seals. Talk to some tyre guy’s to get their take on it, as they don’t recommend it for some tyre type scenarios.

I work on a lot of the RFS trucks in NSW all we use for those wheel nuts is Milwaukee 3/4” rattle guns and check them after but they are always the correct torque or tighter

You should get a front receiver like the one on back and get a winche on a caddy, where you can use it either in front or back, I installed both front and back on my RV 2 YEAR ago I've never used it an I probably will never use it, but it's there just incase.

Awesome videos! Currently living vicariously through you guys. On another note, Try a different way of lifting those tires up to your spare carrier. Walk up to it on the opposite side you want facing out, lean over top it, and grab the holes in the rim face that is pointed away from you. Pull up while catching the top of the tire on your midsection (this works best if you have a belt on) and rotate it on your midsection until the correct face of the rim is pointed away from you and you are simply holding onto the rim while the bulk of the weight is being held by your hips. That is how we do it in the auto repair industry when changing tires on a vehicle that is on a 2 post lift. You can pick up way more weight with less harm to your back. Hope that helps!

can you use the winch for your boat to take the tyre on and off the back. just drape something over the back of the boat carrier to reduce friction on the rope. don't wanna risk doing your back in when your in the middle of the bush.

Possibly. I’m a young man but mate. If I can’t change a tire, I shouldn’t be touring. There is lots of ways I could winch the tire down. Maybe one day I’ll be wise and install something

Thanks for a wonderful video. It brought back great memories when we travelled the Simpson albeit west to east. As with any isolated outback area I bet the stars were amazing. The way the caravan was, at times, bouncing around I reckon the water transfer would have been useful. Will be looking to seeing future videos.

Well I would suggest a breaker bar large breaker bar that's what I used on my truck little large socket that fit my bolts and the nice thing is since it was nice and large and you get a lot of work you can really torque on the bolts that's what I would use but you need something for that spare tire like electric winch electrical off the truck

Holy! That’s quite the rig to be getting through the sand, have you considered a winching anchor to help out in the tough situations? Great that you added the tip on the opposite wheel nut threads 👌🏼 most Japanese made trucks are that way. Also a torque multiplier is a handy tool to carry, affordable & makes light work of the wheel nuts. Enjoy your travels 🍻

Mate, you need a hand winch to help lift up the spare. Just think of blowing out your back and needing to drive to the nearest hospital? Technically a torque wrench is not needed to tighten the wheel nuts, as the standard wheel brace bar and the pull force on the bar is around 400Nm. Basically there is a calculation of a 80kg pull force over the length of the 1 meter wheel brace bar is around 400Nm.

Another good video... Fire making tip: You need to stack your wood lower... The pyramid method is also my style, but stack it less "tidy" so the wood cross each other, as in the old game "chopsticks".. The fire lighters didn't even reach to the wood... You can put the lighter on an empty (beer) tin in the middle as well. You have a half-million-dollar rig, surely you can afford a Torque wrench, bro.. 😂 That tyre is stuffed, sidewall damage don't work with a plug. Far to much "open and close" flex happening... Less showering, more drinking water... Less is more, more or less😂😂😂 If you remove half of your dead weight from the truck and trailer, you will not get stuck less in sand or mud. But each one to his own, love your videos, very different angle... But shy with the drone, I see.... 🇿🇦

Another great Episode guy’s, love ur life & family adventures. Next time ur in the tyre shop, put some anti seize on all ur studs & wheel nuts & spin them on & off 2-3 times to get it into the threads/nuts properly, it will make a difference in the long run & makes tensioning up much better also, & if u have room keep a small tube in toolbox. Someone mentioned Green Tyre Slime, I would have 2 bottles of that on hand also for ur setup. Not sure I agree with ur theory about putting water into the van for towing weight distribution, my thoughts would be to keep most of ur weight on the truck as it has the power to wheels where u want the weight, weighing down the van more in sand (particularly), is like putting more weight on a Plough & will cause it to dig in & drag more, I think u could have let some more air out of ur tyres too, but this is all part of the fun & learning curve of what works with such a setup. Could use ur spare wheel as a sand anchor for winching, but trying to winch a van through that would be the absolute last thing on the list in desperation & potentially very dangerous. Fantastic ride there guy’s, enjoying ur vids. Cheers

Poor man’s torque wrench for wheel nuts -> telescope breaker bar, tape measure + calculator. 1kg at a distance of 1m is about 9.8nm Someone weighing in at 85kg, would need to set the bar at about 50cm and put their whole weight on it to torque at 420nm
