Claymore is a suburb located in South West Sydney, Australia. It houses around 3,300 residents.
Claymore was built as a public housing estate by Housing NSW in the 1970s. By 2011, it was one of Australia’s poorest suburbs.
Today, Claymore is starting to change with majority of the housing turning into million dollar estates.
‪@ZOKUCREATIVE‬ had a chance to take a tour around Claymore, housing commissions, Proctor and more with ‪@THE046OFFICIAL‬ boys before Claymore transforms into a different suburb.
A massive thank you to the boys Liam Patrick for shooting / grading, Phuong Tran (AM Visuals) for shooting and Jerome Reinoso for audio.
Documentary edited by ZOKU CREATIVE (www.zokucreative.com.au)
Intro edited by AM Visuals (www.amvisuals.com.au)
Special thanks to @Corey046 (IG)

I was raised in Claymore, I lived there for 17 years of my life. I went to Claymore public and then EVHS. I can relate to everything these boys say.. You can live anywhere in the world but CLAYMORE will always be home . It’s something that had to be lived to fully understand. My mates that I grew up with from Claymore are still my mates now and I’m 47 .. A childhood filled with adventure, struggles , and mateship.

My family moved in when Claymore was first opened to public housing tenants in the very late 70s. We were the 5th family to move into this development back in 78. Houses and townhouses were still being built when we first moved in. Back then, there were hardly any single parent families living there. Almost all tenants were dual parent families and their kids. Everyone took pride in how their houses looked, and almost all the houses had beautiful gardens. Including ours, which my father poured countless hours into cultivating. Our house was at 20 Gidley Crescent, and we loved it. Being refugees who were allowed into Australia back in 75, having our very own home meant a great deal to our family. There were 10 of us living in a four bedroom home, and it was great despite being so cramped. I shared my room with my 4 brothers. 4 in bunk beds except for my oldest brother, who had his own bed. We all attended Badgally Primary School, which was only a few minutes' walk away. Great memories of that school and my very first girlfriend. I'm 57 now, and I treasure the memories I have of growing up in Claymore. Especially the great and very lively Christmas and New Year's parties my parents used to hold for our extended families, friends and all our surrounding neighbours. It's just so sad to see what a dump this place had become before it got demolished. It's a million years away from the clean, beautiful, pristine and very safe public housing estate it once was. It was once so safe that a very young kid like me aged 11-12 used to walk home from my friends place at night without any fear of being attacked, sexually assaulted, or abducted and killed. I'm glad my father made the hard decision to uproot our entire family and move to South Australia back in 1984. This was well before the rot had set in. It was very sad to leave an area we all loved but it gave the family a fresh start and helped all the kids in the family to live in a nice, safe family oriented area away from the crime, and drug riddled place filled with hopelessness that Claymore would eventually become. I'd even say this move saved our family and gave all of us kids a better future. One that has made us all successful in life instead of falling in with the bad crowd we no doubt would've fallen into had we not moved. It's sad to see the entire estate being demolished, but the bad people who moved and led to its decline forced the Government to act and sell off the land to private developers who are giving this suburb with a bad reputation a much better and brighter future.

I still remember back in the dayz walkin back home with the boyz and dat, houses filled with families and dat, kids muckin about on the curb and all dat. I went back for a visit and fk I couldn't recognize the streets in which i grew up in, houses knocked down, abandoned and burnt down houses, all those houses used to have families in em. I still remember the BBQ on either Saturday evenings or Sunday, smelt ifo and all. Sat on my car and just started thinking about past memories of when the boyz and I always linked up and got up to no good, now I hardly get in contact with em cause we all moved to different parts of Australia, MISS EM DAYZ. Since b-ball court was always full back then me and boyz would always get toned up before pulling up, I still remember all the chicks back then. LOL good laughs

@EatMyShortsAU
@EatMyShortsAU 2 жыл бұрын
@@dangerislander Yeah I think so. There was a lot more government housing in the inner west and suburbs in which are very expensive. I think it makes sense to sell the upmarket places but only if the money is invested to build more housing elsewhere.

SW syd housing was the best to grow up in the 90s from the age of 3-10. I grew up in two different houses in claymore from that age, the 2 story unit down from the shops. 31 glenroy Dr. with the park and green brick wall next to it. on google maps is abandon now, proctor way is just behind it. i remember my stepdad trashing a off road go-kart in that park, that was around 1991. We moved up to were the new house's are now, it sucks i cant even find a map of the old street or photos. you turn right off bagdally Rd on to Glenroy and there used to be a foot path in between rows of houses back/front yards. just on the left there. man you had that big clay hill and park on the corner of bagdally and glenroy too. used to walk around by my self at times along the edge of that park and the back fences of all the 2 story units to the shops. Pretty sure that's the path at 4:20 in the background. It was safe as. playing/riding bmx with all the kids in the streets, bonfire nights with the islander family's! the whole coldersack's parents drinkin with each other wile us kids would play on weekends. the dads would all play footy in the park alot, i even rode motorbikes around the clay hill at the age i was, me and my step dad would ride around there, across from Blairmount primary school, its all houses now. Playing in all the horded junk that the next door neighbours parents kept, had all old 90s toys and random junk. the early morning paper boy wheeling a kart around blowing a whistle, the rainbow bus that would take the kids to the youth center. the memories are all flooding back. but that was all around 1991 to 98 when i was a kid, it would prob be different as a teenager though. a bit more trouble would arise i think. as it does anywhere though. We ended up moving out to Narellan housos. housing commission life was good! everyone was outside and family's all knew each other. im glad i was raised there as a kid, kids needs to be raised in suburbs like claymore was in the 90s, as long as your family isn't full blown junkies and have morals n shit, make effort to get presents at Christmas time its a good upbringing socially.

claymore looks like yagoona/villawood in the late 90s and early 2000s. they use to call it the Bronx back in the day and there was a lot of islanders over there now majority of them moved out. it's sad to see, claymore is probably one of the worst looking places I've ever been.

Sorry but what’s ghetto about getting on the back wheel of a dirt bike? This happens in one in every 20 suburbs in all of Australia. Yes it’s got houso’s so do another majority of all suburbs this is just basic Aussie living. Nothing ghetto about it, I didn’t see not even one crime, no guns no drugs or drug fucked living? Story’s that if you weren’t there… how do you know if they’re true?

@@YallahletsgoG loooooool that’s like saying “why is there gun shops and liquor shops and cheap fast food next to each other on every corner, it’s not ghetto, it’s basic American living”…. If you think it’s all a lie, and that there is nothing behind the scenes of these dirty public housing flats, burned down and used for drug trade….. just do quick Google searches, and you’ll see why they want to change the name of the suburb…. *Youre clearly not from Sydney……*
