Thanks Jim. Mother always said, before you leave the house make sure you have on clean underwear and have a safe toilet. If you don't believe me, ask your proctologist. Thumbs up.

Good info. Had a supply line blow because the plastic failed, luckily my wife just got out of the shower and was able to get it with a minute or so but still had a bunch of water damage.

Jim. Please answer this question. If you have a shower or tub with a delta valve do you have to use delta fixtures. In others words do they have to match? I trust your expertise. We are building a new house and the the contractor plumber put in delta valves and then said you have to have delta fixtures. We are like, well you should have asked us first. Its insane.
@TheGrumpyPlumber6 ай бұрын
If you use a delta valve, you need to use the delta trim on the tub and shower valve. You can’t interchange trim. You should have been the one to pick out your fixtures like the faucets, toilets and sinks, not the plumber.

I've never seen one crack, 25 years, been lucky I guess. I don't doubt your experiences. maybe I don't overtighten them.

Mr. Grumpy, Do the threads require teflon tape or that plumbers goo that they sell at Lowes? Thanks
@jennysurfer65167 ай бұрын
If it has a gasket then no. Well I'm not Mr Grumpy😁

can't hurt.

No Teflon tape. Never Teflon tape or use pipe dope on a nut that has a gasket.

Does it matter if it’s tube for a faucet? The only metal ones at Home Depot were labelled for faucets and the plastic ones were labelled for toilets. Also for toilets, what size fasteners would I need?
@TheGrumpyPlumber6 ай бұрын
The toilet supply is 7/8x12x3” and is the most common supply line for a toilet. The 7/8” nut is the size that is attached to the toilet. This is the plastic nut that breaks. The older it is, the higher chance it will break. Home Depot is inconsistent in what they have in stock. Try Lowes or check Amazon. See if there is a small plumbing supply store or hardware store in your neighborhood that might carry them. A faucet supply line has a 1/2” nut so that will not work on a toilet which uses a 7/8” nut. As for your second question; are you talking about the toilet bolts that anchor the toilet to the floor? The diameter is 1/4”.

Hi wat company would you recommend for a whole house water filter and softener?
@TheGrumpyPlumber6 ай бұрын
The company that has the cheapest price and don’t worry about brand name.

@@TheGrumpyPlumber any recommendations for a company ?
@TheGrumpyPlumber6 ай бұрын
Plumbers probably have the most reasonable price because they don’t make a living installing water softeners.

But the inlet male thread that is coming out of the toilet is still plastic, I thought you would want to go plastic on plastic?
@TheGrumpyPlumber6 ай бұрын
No, not necessary. Toilet manufacturers normally don’t use brass ballcocks.
