Kampung Baru is one of the last traditional Malay kampungs in KL abt 400 hectar. The value of these land abt USD2.5 bilion (RM13 bilion) very expensive bcoz located at prime area that is KLCC. The govt and developer never dare to develop this area due to too expensive and problem too many land owners inheritence since the last 200 years. One piece of land there ie 1 hectar might probably have 400 owners make difficult for Land Office to trace all these owners. Some more most of the owners refuse to sell it as to preserve Malay heritage in the heart of KL for generation to come to see kampung in KL.

You are right about "tempeh" (fermented soybeans) in the beginning of the vlog. Here in Malaysia, we like to slice it thin and fry it. Congratulations on your first try of nasi lemak which loosely translated means "fatty rice" bcoz the rice is cooked in coconut milk with lemongrass, galangal or ginger, pinch of salt and some throw in halba (fenugreek). The basic NL is rice, cucumber, sambal, boiled eggs, anchovy and fried gound peanuts. Over the years, it has evolved to include chicken/beef rendang (or fried), sotong (squid) and even prawns.

Try to have fun at work and try to have fun while serving the customers. Don't spoil Malaysia's good name. Lain kali senyum ye kakak and adik kat wanjo tu. If you really like eating spicy sambal, you should also try eating with sambal 'petai'. Petai in English is known as stinky bean which is only found in tropical forests. Usually the person who eat Nasi with sambal petai will not notice even your father-in-law walk infron of you. 😁
@WhereisBrad9 ай бұрын
HAHAHAHA that sounds super crazy, but i have to try! So it's not fermented right? just naturally really stinky bean?

I think if you're not into spicy food, you should try Nasi Kerabu with smoked beef, it's so good. There's some noodles that worth trying too like Char Kuew Tiaw, either chinese or malay version.
@WhereisBrad9 ай бұрын
Those all sound good. I've had and loved Kuew Tiaw. BUT, I actually LOVE spicy foods! Like extreme spice!

in malay culture/practice, they dont use left hand to eat. only use right hand to use, either use spoon & fork, or use right hand.
@WhereisBrad9 ай бұрын
I see. Do some people do the same but with opposite hands? I write with my left hand. So I’m curious if there are “lefties” who use left to eat, right for sanitary

@@WhereisBrad Malaysian here🖐 . I can confirm that Nasi Lemak doesn't bound by any specific meal time. We enjoy it any time of the day
@sivaramlord91519 ай бұрын
Nasi Lemak is like the best stuff you can eat in Malaysia cause it is so customisable. You can add, Chicken, Fish, veggies, harshbrown, and eat it with heaps of Sambal on the rice.

@@WhereisBrad You should try with the Squid/cuttlefish sambal. Or with Prawn Sambal as well. Each time i head to Malaysia, I always stay in a hotel, that has Nasi Lemak on their Breakfast Buffet Menu.

It's so much different kg bahru I used to live there for 10 years. Back late 90's. And now so much different. But that nasi lemak is different cooked. We called kukus nasi lemak. Or they steam the rice. Is been there since early 90's. And now his restaurant so much different. There is porridge restaurant along that street but selling at night but not sure if still there or not. It's famous in 90's. Porridge plain and u can add other dishes that they offer to eat tgt with the porridge. Maybe one day I will check it out that place which is my friends trying to avoid because the traffic is so bad there.

Milo is from Australia but the one available in Malaysia hv different sugar, milk n coco ratio.. Australian Milo is bitter as it has higher coco ratio.. Malaysian one is more balance in taste.. thats why many Southeast Asian people travelling to Malaysia will buy Milo in bulk to take home to their country..

Fork & spoon are the norm especially whenever you're eating rice dishes. If the meat is not easy to cut with a spoon we'll just pick it up and take a bite. That's how we roll :)
