"kandar" means to carry something on your shoulder which was the original way this nasi was sold in public in the old days. a "kandar" is something you use to carry things around on your shoulder(s). picture carrying a noble person in a palanquin like people did in ancient times. so in the old days, nasi kandar sellers carried their nasi in pots and the rest of their wares balanced at the 2 ends of poles they carry on their shoulders. these days, the nasi is served on counters in restaurants instead of being carried around with a "kandar". the method the nasi is being sold have changed but the name remains. enjoy malaysia!

Note for drinks, if you order "tea" you're more likely to get milked or pulled tea. If you want plain tea you say "teh O". Also works with coffee, you say "kopi O" for Malaysian version of Americano, or "milo O". "O" basically means plain/sugared with no milk. Try "Teh O Ais Limau", Brad. Favorite drink during hot days.

why do you eat rice with a fork...because malaysians eat rice with a spoon...fork is only for food like noodles
@ArgusXII8 ай бұрын
some westerners eat their rice with fork , well let people eat however they want to eat . I don't even grab fishballs with chopsticks , I just shove the chopstick inside the fishballs .
@DanialAdnan228 ай бұрын
@@ArgusXII hahahahha... yes, different countries, different ways... I'm just sharing my opinion on eating rice with a spoon in Malaysia
@WhereisBrad8 ай бұрын
I agree.. my western way of eating rice with a fork doesn't make sense. I don't know what we do that, but it's a habit I want to break. I def want to try using my hands next time. I like to always at least "try" what the locals do... and I'll probably like it lol.
