I have BPH and I'm 60. No ED, yet, thank goodness. I dramatically reduced sugar in my diet. I had lots of positive health effects, but among them is my prostate gland shrank enough that I had no more pee problems. I had been taking Saw Palmetto as needed. I found I needed one saw palmetto supplement pill about once a week. But after cutting sugar, I have not needed it! I eliminated all chocolate and soda pop. I reduced sugar where I could, including in snacks and breakfast cereals. My pre-diabetes and peripheral neuropathy in my feet faded. Instead of sugar, I am trying to eat more animal protein. Beef, fish, chicken and pork. I'm working on reducing bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. For me, sugar is a poison. I already supplemented with Zinc and Magnesium.

Good video; but it should be mentioned that zinc and other minerals should be taken separately, as zinc absorption competes against absorption of iron, copper, and other minerals. I take most of my minerals other than zinc, some in the morning, some at night, and I take zinc usually around noon. Also, there are theories and theories about BPH. That it is caused by DHT is the most common belief, but some researchers believe it is estrogen, not DHT, that causes BPH, for example, and advise taking green veggies and whole lemons with the peel, to control the production of the aromatase enzyme, which converts testosterone to estrogen.

My experience with BPH/prostate problems: After I had my biopsy they told me it was an aggressive form of cancer, and not the kind that grows so slowly that you don't need to worry about. So, (this was about two years ago) I had radiation treatment and hormone blocker injections for prostate cancer. I believe the treatments are partially responsible for me being unable to pee on my own, unless I use catheters 4 times a day. I take flowmax but I try and only take it every other day or so because it causes side effects like dizziness when standing up quickly, among other things. The treatments also turned off the switch for any interest in sex. The urologist told me it would eventually return but I'm still waiting. I've considered 3 different methods of procedures which are supposed to open up the urethra and make it so I can pee without using catheters however, the procedures each have the potential for negative outcomes - even making things worse than they already are. Loss of bladder control being something I can not accept at this point. Bleeding after these procedures is not tolerable for me either since I have to be on blood thinner due to 2 previous small strokes. I'm currently using saw palmetto 3x per day (just started) and I also use a liquid colloidal zinc. Also using NAC & other anti inflammatory supplements in hopes I can shrink the prostate and be able to pee without having to use catheters. Weigh your options and get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion if you're facing surgical procedures.

@drrachael2 жыл бұрын
Hey! this is Dr. Rachael's response team. She will get back to you soon. Thank you.
@davidharris21472 жыл бұрын
@Screaming Eagle. Estrogen actually has beneficial effects on the prostate. In fact, estrogen compounds are used by many urologists after treating prostate cancer because estrogen is about the only thing that prostate cancer tends to respond to. I know of no legitimate research that claims zinc is an aromatase inhibitor and anti-estrogen in nature. Zinc is deeply involved in the health of the immune system and has other effects all over the body. It is inhibited to a great deal by mercury. Mercury gets into the zinc binding sites. The mercury has a much higher binding affinity and far lower enzymatic activity. A lot of zinc can potentially displace some of that mercury. The best thing would be not to put any amalgam fillings into your mouth. If you have mercury amalgams, get them removed safely by a biological dentist. Zinc is very beneficial but it has limits when it comes down to treating mercury toxicity. The best way to treat mercury toxicity is to take selenium, preferably as selenomethionine.
@ScreamingEagleFTW2 жыл бұрын
@@trentstaggerly7455yes anti aromatase.
@ScreamingEagleFTW2 жыл бұрын
@@davidharris2147 The video is not about mercury. Urologists think androgens cause prostate issues. They dont. Estrogen does which comes from the aromatization of testosterone. DHT and Estrogen causes BPH. Take away the estrogen and BPH goes away and thats facts. you know of no legitimate research. legitimate meaning sponsored by the medical industry. If you think amalgam fillings result in mercury in the blood you are mistaken it is inert. Its easy to see zinc in action. Take a testosterone test to set your baseline, then take 50mg of zinc gluconate for 2 weeks and then take the testosterone blood test again. You will see 40% increase in T.

I really really thought you were going to say boron.… It is safer and way less tricky to Take than zinc, has absolutely direct correlation to testosterone conversion, and is a key player and hormone balancing. For both men and women. you should read, “there’s nothing boring about boron“.

Hi why is zinc less safe and tricky to take? Thank you
@creativesolutionstoart10 ай бұрын
@@socratese5 Hi, there are different forms of zinc and most of them are not very absorbable… Also zinc must be taken in the proper ratio with copper. The only food source that I know of is oysters and pumpkin seeds where you can find the proper ratio of zinc copper. Solar ray is a supplement brand that makes a zinc copper capsule, it is the only one I know of that has the proper ratio. just taking a lot of zinc can really be unsafe because it throws copper off balance and can cause copper depletion.… Boron has also been linked to prostate cancer prevention. Besides helping to balance hormones, it is good for bones. seems boron would be a much more suitable choice to help prevent prostate cancer.

Zinc supplementation should also include copper
@paulpyatt99422 жыл бұрын
Yes it should ....because it offsets the zinc depleting the copper in the body.

I use zinc caplets, so I never taste them. What form of zinc would I need to do the test to which you are referring? Also, how does one achieve proper absorption of the zinc taken?
@avid6186 Жыл бұрын
Very good question. I have just bought some of the zinc she talks about, same brand and everything. Trouble is there is a warning on the bottle about how it must be diluted before use. The impression from the video is to take it straight. I'm now looking for more info, straight or diluted?

Hi and thanks for the great info. Which type of Zinc do you reccomend? I've been taking it daily but not much point if it's not the right one. Thanks.

Undetectable levels of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) have been reported from the first patient with metastatic castrate-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) to ever receive two cycles of Clarity’s 67Cu-SAR-bisPSMA at the 8GBq dose level. PSA is a marker of tumour burden, clinical response to treatment and an indicator of the recurrence of disease for prostate cancer.

men need to take not only zinc;but selenium too.semen contains also selenium and it works as a powerful antioxidant too

If you know chemistry, the answer will stare you in the face. Zinc and mercury are in the same period of elements. They behave similarly but are not identical in mammalian biochemistry. Perhaps in fungal biochemistry they behave similarly enough. But in mammalian biochemistry mercury binds those sites meant for zinc which far higher binding affinities but resulting in far lower enzymatic activity. Selenium binds mercury with such a high affinity that there is nothing in mammalian biochemistry that is able to undo the bond. Unless mercuric selenide can get into the stomach, which does not happen. Mercury has multiple effects on the body. It knocks out the enzymes based on zinc. And it depletes the body of selenium. It is a selenium enzyme that creates glutathione. Another selenium enzyme creates thyroid hormone. Another selenium enzyme is involved in brain health. Selenium is very important to mammalian biology and health. Taking a selenium based supplement is a very good idea. Men should take selenomethionine at 200 mcg per day. Women should take it in higher doses. 400 mcg daily would be a good start. 800 to 1,000 mcg daily for pregnant and breast feeding women is not outside of what should be taken. Selenite should not be taken at doses above 200 mcg daily. Selenomethionine is relatively benign. It behaves exactly as does methionine. The body treats it no differently.

Please watch Thomas de Lauer’s vid on supplements NOT to take if you’re over 50. If you have decent selenium levels, the worst thing you can do is to supplement selenium as it can significantly raise your risk of prostate cancer. Take 2 brasil nuts daily, that will give you all the selenium your body needs. Good luck.

DrRachel, your straight-at-you delivery is refreshing. Question: I recently took a full blood lab test. The results are quite cryptic in the medical sense. Which of the categories measured represents zinc levels? In other words, what are the different ways it could be labeled?
