Probably one of the best and concise videos about Lighting out there (with the ones of W Faucher) thanks men! Really good and clear.

Very cool! I was wondering what "upstage lighting " meant, until I realized I know it as far side key lighting.

Pls a tutorial on bullets lighting that you shown in intro with the sparks when it collide. Just like in real-life.

How would you make the lighting flicker a bit like the light is all coming from torchlight? It should be moving around a bit. Thanks.

Thank you very much for your help. Can you tell me why my light goes out when the camera is far away? Thank you 🙏
@JoshToonen Жыл бұрын
Increase your attentuation radius! The camera will “cull” any lights it doesn’t think are necessary to help save performance, so lights really far away you’ll need to boost the attenuation

Awesome! Really helpful. Do you use anything else in the video that effects the scene eg. directional light, sky and atmosphere or exponential height fog?

Hi, I love your videos. One question, is there a way for a rectangular light or point of light to only affect a specific actor or object and not the rest of the scene? Thank you

How we can render the rim, fill, and key light separately? is there any way?
@MatthewWarnerVA Жыл бұрын
You said place the key light behind the 180 degree line. What does "behind" mean in this context? On the other side of the 180 line/plane relative to the camera?
@JoshToonen Жыл бұрын
Yeah exactly, the opposite side of the camera

Josh, what about when a character moving inside Unreal sequence ? Do we make a light rig and animate along with the character or is there something else im missing ?
@JoshToonen Жыл бұрын
You absolutely can but I personally always try to think (or find out) how a scene would be lit in real life. There are countless lighting diagrams out there even for shots on a dolly and usually* they aren't moving lights, but placing larger light sources that will stay even as a character moves through a scene.

Can I take that course without a background in game development? I'm only use to do archviz. Static renders, so close to zero knowledge on animation, rigging and large environment creation.
@JoshToonen Жыл бұрын
Yup! It's aimed at people who come from 3d art backgrounds and want to use Unreal for their renders. I'm only covering the most important parts of the gamedev side so you know how all of the systems work together

I was wondering what software should I use for my animations blender or unreal engine
@JoshToonen Жыл бұрын
If you want to create animations I definitely recommend Unreal because rendering Sequences is much faster, but if you just want to do stills Blender may be more straightforward!

Great videos, but why just HD? You should at least upscale them in 4k when you export them. KZbin uses a higher bitrate on 4k uploads.
