I'd be interested to see you make a Discontinued Sodas list, Strider, you'd have a lot to pick from. One of my favorite flavors of Mountain Dew was discontinued, that was Mtn Dew Ice. It was a more crisp and fresher lemonade taste to the original, and a bit less acidic too. I think it was launched in Summer 2018 and I really enjoyed the taste. But for some reason after 2019 and especially once the Pandemic hit, I saw Mtn Dew Ice less and less until I found out it was discontinued. Apparently, despite how hard they pushed the marketing in North America, no one really like the taste I suppose. It seems like Mtn Dew Ice is only now sold in India of all places, and it's white instead of clear.

Honestly as a coffee fan, I remembering being incredibly underwhelmed by Blak Cola? It just tasted like flatter, more bitter Cola. But I'm actually pretty fond of the new kinds they've put out, so I have a feeling they must have taken it back to the drawing board and tweaked the formula enough to make it actually... y'know... palatable. That said, it's still horrible health-wise and probably a one way trip to stomach ulcers, so. EDIT: a thought; Lay's would be a lot more successful with their chocolate covered chips if it were something like drizzling or stripes, a la Keebler's Fudge Stripes perhaps.

Crystal Pepsi was just barely before my time... I formed a secondhand opinion about it based on folks' demonization of it. Then I found out about the only thing changed that had any bearing on the experience was that it wasn't brown. That folks would freak out so much at the idea of a cola that looks like water when they'd happily drink Sprite or unconvincing 'fruit drinks' colored like hydraulic fluids seems absolutely brain-dead. On a cola label's short list of ingredients, which I figure everyone must read at least once if only out of boredom, there's always one ingredient that's memorably plainspoken and simple in name-- 'caramel coloring'. That's an explicit admission the brown color is just for show!

They were the only one of the Swoops that I actually liked as they were better then just buying the Peppermint Candy Bar that Hersey also released around the same time. Like, it actually tasted better somehow. Maybe because of the more thinned shape? Though, as mentioned in the video, you did not get many "Swoops" per package, and they cost almost $2~$3 more then a standard candybar, and normally weighed overall less then a normal bar. So it wasn't only the number of "chips" you got, but you were effectively paying more for less at the same time.

The biggest battle for snack manufacturers is always over shelf space, so it's important to note that new varieties can help the company even if they don't last because stores tend to still order and pack out the same number of the standard flavors, but also make room for the new ones (often giving them promotional signage or end caps to boot). This is why there's always a third flavor of Doritos available.

My friends and I went nuts over Crystal Pepsi when LA Beast, who my friend was a big fan of at the time, helped meme it back into existence. We would actively hunt down and stock up on it in the hopes that the retailers would make note of it and maybe pass the word along to Pepsi that it was selling well. But, alas, we had one glorious, clear moment to enjoy our transparent sugar water

I just tried Mountain Dew's "Flamin' Hot" soda recently. It weirdly didn't taste disgusting, it was more or less like Sprite but with a bitey aftertaste almost like the inverse of the cold feeling you get from mint. _Still fundamentally unpleasant, but not the way I was expecting._ I also remember chocolate skittles at one point, which were absolutely a mistake that I'm glad vanished into obscurity. Edit: And one I just remembered that I had finally forgotten the taste of: *Trolli Candy Corn.* I thought it would be candy corn shaped and tangy gummy flavored, but no it was gummy shaped and *candy corn flavored.* Bluuuuueegh. Worst Halloween candy choice ever.

To add onto Lays' escapades into the realm of sweets, last year my store sold Reeses bite-sized chocolates with crushed potato chips in them, specifically Lays potato chips. It was part of our push contests for the stores in our region during Halloween, but even when selling a lot it was mostly due to good employee pushers and not the love of the product. Most people I asked about the candy told me they weren't thrilled about the taste or texture, and that it mostly just grossed them out to have potato chips inside Reeses. We also had a pretzel-filled Reeses that was loved significantly more and actually sold out before our contest ended.

Take the humble Twinkie. It's a classic because it hit a great synergy of flavor & richness. The bakery behind it didn't want to risk poisoning the brand, so they used to be very careful on changing it up. For decades, the only variant available was the devil's food cake. Now? A small correction about the pumpkin spice M&Ms, I once thought, as is clearly the case for this fellow, that this means the item is supposed to taste like pumpkin, or pumpkin pie. In fact, it's just the spices one uses when making a pumpkin pie. This led to a great deal of disappointment on my part, and a loathing for most things pumpkin spice to this day. Turns out that that particular blend of spices does few favors to most other foods. That said, there are plenty of pumpkin flavored, or pumpkin pie flavored products out there, and lots of them are quite delicious. Just watch out for the word "spice" and you should be fine.

I remember the Hershey's Swoops. I remember asking my mother for them, but she pointed out that you could get a larger quantity of chocolate for less money by getting a traditional bar.

The time-out one was interesting to me, I like in the UK and I can still get them at my local corner store!! They're called "time-out wafers" instead of just time-outs but I wonder if I'm some sort of strange anomaly

Not gonna lie, when I was a little kid, my taste buds were a bit too sensitive to the acid and bubbles in soda. It's why I would still drink flat soda.

Personally, I remember the Hershey's swoop: As a kid I absolutely loved the presentation because it was just a novelty at the time. Taste-wise, it really wasn't that different from regular Hershey's chocolate. As my tastes have changed, I don't think I would actually buy it if I ever saw it on the shelves because of just how sweet Hershey's chocolate tends to be.

I had Swoops when it was available. Too bad I remember nothing about it standing out. I guess Hershey's tried too hard to make the item look cool. I'd love to hear what you think of other discontinued soft drinks.

It's too bad that chocolate covered chips failed, the idea sounds really good, crunchy sweet and salty at the same time... but it sounds like they put way too much chocolate to chip ratio. Chocolate covered pretzels for the win, I guess :P Would love to see more of these videos, they're really fun!

Chocolate Chips were one of my favorite snacks and I'll forever be bitter that everyone let them fail. They were so good, salty, sweet and delicious. Especially the dark chocolate ones.

I really enjoyed the Sweet Heat Skittles. You don't get a lot of "spicy" sweets in Australia so when they were introduced i thought it was a great choice for people who wanted to get a spice sensation while being for a relatively cheap price

So I actually had a spicy chocolate bar once in my Spanish class, and while I don't like spicy things I did like that. So if ever given the chance I do recommend trying chocolate from Spain or Mexico saying it's spicy

A couple years ago you could get chili nut M&Ms as part of a "vote for the next flavor" promo. They were peanut M&Ms with chili powder mixed into the chocolate and they were really good.

As someone who drinks strong, spicy hot chocolate (NOT the candy-ish version that's basically hot chocolate milk) frequently, I found Strider's comment on spicy chocolate pretty funny. I'm not from Mexico or Spain though... It's found all over Latin American and in my case, North Florida a.k.a part of the cutural stretch of land that is commonly known as "the Florida/Georgia line". Also, have you tried any of the SALTED spicy dark chocolate bars? Cacoa can definitely be spicy, sweet, nutty, and savory at the same time!

@@kidwolf0015 no I haven't. Sadly I only ever had it once in like 4th grade (I'm in my 20s now) and I could never find any chocolate like it since I didn't know it's name. But yeah despite me not liking spicy things I did find that chocolate amazing

@@ryuudraco592 Well, I don't know about other countries, but there's a few hidden areas in the U.S that you could try to find Salted Jalapeño dark chocolate bars. One obvious spot is in any "Hispanic food" section in grocery stores, another is with the expensive deluxe fancy chocolate bars. Weirdly, one suprisingly reliable place is actually health/vitamin stores and the mini cafés built into some of them? My guess is that it's because it's a "superfood" that can be viewed as a candy bar replacement. Street Cafés are another good place to look for spicy chocolate bars & sometimes even freshly brewed Mexican Hot Chocolate (aka drinking chocolate)! Remember, keywords are "jalapeño", "salted (for the salty versions)", "Mexican/Cuban (I don't know why this odd claification is made. These bars are popular across all of Latin America)", "dark cacoa bars", "cinnamon", and even "Mexican Hot Chocolate bars" can be used on the labeling (Kinda of an incorrect name though. Real "Mexican hot Chocolate" bars are specifically made of cacao processed for brewing in mind. To eat those directly is like eating a spoonful of ground up coffee beans... Not a good idea. 😂). Hopefully this helps you out with your quest some.

I think another soda failure was the onslaught of 10 calorie sodas. Coke 10, Dr Pepper 10, Sprite 10, other was shilled on ads for a bit a few years back, though I never tried them, I have a feeling it was basically just the diet versions of the drinks with I guess a little more sweeter.

In Canada we have a few soda brands including Jones soda that have "blue bubblegum" flavours! I love them. Very sugary, but if you're a bubblegum fan they're a hit.

I loved Swoops as a kid. I especially loved the Reese's flavor. The Chocolate Wavy Lays were also really good but they were not only hard to find sometimes but they were really expensive. A small bag of the chocolate wavy lays would cost more than a family size bag of the normal flavors in stores. Maybe that contributed the their low sales.
