During Covid last year, hardly anyone was at Lanikai, the water was clear, sun was out, and a bunch of sea turtles came to shore. I knew this was something I might never experience here again. Lanikai Beach is my favorite. I can't argue that Makua is right up there. This list is accurate!🤙
@DennyandNikki3 жыл бұрын
Wow, that sounds amazing! Lanikai is definitely a gem on this island. If we can’t park our car there, you’ll find us chilling at Makua beach 🤙

So as a tourist I think Waikiki is pretty good, and has many amenities close by. I did visit Lanikai, I liked it, took Uber to it and a city bus back (takes a while but only $3).

Just 2 FYI's to this video...1) Most times when pronouncing Hawaiian place names, W is often pronounced as W-Waikiki, Waiahole, Waimea...Or as V--Hawi, Kawela, Panaewa...2) When on E side of Oahu, Mokes can refer to Mokulua(Two Islands). On the N Shore, Mokes can refer to Mokuleia, over the mountain from Makua beach....Keep those videos coming!

Nice stuff. Brings back lots of memories. Oh to be young and free on the islands. Hope you guys go off island and do some there. Btw, one note. I'm not a fan a recommending folks go to the Makaha side. Haoles don't always do so well there. Just an observation. Oh, and go to Malaekehana campground. 🙂

Waimanalo Bay - East side of Oahu with lots of trees Ko’olina Lagoon - West Side of Island good for snorkelling and seeing sunsets. Public parking at lagoon 4 Kawela Bay - North Oahu with lots of coconut and banyan trees. Secluded beach and very private Waimea Bay - North Shore. Parking is limited. You can see sea turtles. 5 min from turtle beach with lots of food trucks. Rock climbing, rock jumping and underwater tunnels Hanama Bay - East side. Best for snorkelling. Very crowded. Shallow water. Beautiful beach Kailua Beach - East side. Turquoise water. Decent parking Ala Moana - Near Honolulu. Calm waters. Shallow water Kaiona Beach - East side. Very local. Blue water. Lots of reefs and good for snorkelling. Has a fish pond for swimming Lanikai Beach - turquoise water, soft sand, best for sunrise. Kayaking is great here. Must go. Parking is bad. Park at Kalua and walk to Lanikai Makua Beach - West Side. MUST GO. Reasonably uncrowded. No life guards. Easy parking

Excellent video again! Your #1 beach Makua is EXACTLY what I would want to find on Oahu - undeveloped & uncrowded places to escape the crowds & noise. Are there still other untouched beaches on Oahu, or more on the smaller islands? How long would it take to drive from Honolulu to Makua Beach? And how many hours would it take to drive the entire Oahu perimeter doing a 'beach tour'? Thanks & keep up the great vidz!
@DennyandNikki3 жыл бұрын
Makua Beach is awesome. Most of the westside beaches are gems (Yokohama Bay, Mākaha). It takes about 45 minutes to travel to Makua Beach from Honolulu with no traffic. Circling the island to tour beaches takes 3-4 hours. The Westside isn't part of the circle though, so you'd have to drive in and out.

Hello! 😄 Do you have a recommendation for where to find sea glass on Oahu? And is it legal to take home? I keep reading mixed answers for this online!

Sorry, we haven't collected any sea glass. Generally, taking anything from the beaches, even shells, is frowned upon but I don't know if it's illegal.

Do you need to rent a car? Or is there a Bus we can ride? We are staying in wikiki.
@DennyandNikki2 жыл бұрын
We always recommend renting a car to visit some of the island. The bus system takes a very long time and I don't think it runs to Makua Beach.

for a first timer in Oahu, where should we stay? we are looking for something not too crowded? east side, west side, etc?
@DennyandNikki3 жыл бұрын
Most of the accommodations are in the Waikiki area, so it may be better to stay there and travel to places you want to visit each day. For a secluded option though, Turtle Bay on North Shore is far away from the crowds.

When you guys go to the beaches, do you take your phones with you in a waterproof pouch or do you leave it on the beach? What is safest in your opinion? ☺️

We usually leave our stuff in a bag on the beach. That’s how we’ve always done it, not sure if that’s the best option... but we never had anything stolen from us!
