D*mn, 1942 was a great year for movies! It was certainly a great year for Claude Rains, who features prominently in the top two movies on this list, as well as the Honorable Mention King's Row. He's quite possibly my favorite actor of the era.

Googie Withers was great in Night And The City with Richard Widmark. Also loved Dead Of Night and have heard good things about Pink String And Sealing Wax. It's awesome that she's your Grandmother. I look forward to seeing One Of Our Aircraft Is Missing.

5:12 that footage was destroyed at the time. We’ve heard of what was intended and it seemed fantastic. 7:19 also King’s Row influenced John Williams to create the Star Wars score.

Casablanca On a side note, since you'll be doing your favorites of 1983, I'd recommend checking out Barefoot Gen. It's one of the darkest and most disturbing animated films you'll ever see.

It just dawned on me that you go black and white film, formal dress, and on the rocks (no beer) before 1960. Maybe sepia tone brown in the seventies, polyester, sideburns and wine coolers? We just watched "To Be or Not to Be" at your recommendation. Very cool. Thanks!

Wrong, sorry : The Major and the Minor (1942) is not Billy Wilder’s first movie, he had codirected Mauvaise Graine (1934) with Alexandre Esway in France.
