The greatest flyover of all times took place over Tokyo Bay during the official Japanese surrender ceremony on Sept. 2nd, 1945. 450 aircraft carrier planes from the U.S. Navy Third Fleet passed in massed formation over the USS Missouri. A few minutes later, 462 U.S. Army Air Force B-29 bombers flew by.

Yep! Loudest stadium in the world, officially!Also, I lived in Springfield, MO, south of KC and WAFB, and once had a triad wing of stealth bombers fly practice bombing sorties over my small neighborhood for hours! And in Nixa, one flew danger low right over our swimming pool at night. I’ll never forget it. Also, go Chiefs! 😊

god i love a flyover, there is just something about an entire stadium singing to the national anthem and then the pure joy of the flyover as it is ending. nothing gets you more riled up as an American then that, then you are officially ready for a good time 🇺🇲

On the timing aspect they practice it multiple times before hand to get there right when they sing the “home of the BRAVE” part! There’s also a coordinator on the ground, in the stadium, on a radio with the aircraft to time it perfectly. They fly over our house when they are practicing, and on the day, of the football game. I live ~ 12 miles from Neyland Stadium, which is where the University of Tennessee (UT) play. The footage in the video was the first time they had F-35’s fly over. We heard them for a couple hours off and on the night before as they practiced and identified navigation points and danger points. We watched them as they went by each time and me, the wife and our son all loved it. Then on the day of that game, man they lit the fire on those things. They were so much louder and they were on afterburner the whole time. The flame out the back on them was just as long as the jets are. We can hear and see the light from the fireworks when UT scores too.

I've not seen a flyover at a game, but I was in the USAF for 20 years, 10 of it at Osan AB in Korea. The first year I was there they were still flying old F-4 Phantoms, then they switched to F-16s... It didn't matter. Any time a fighter (and they are never alone, there are always at least two) goes by for takeoff at max power with the afterburner on, you feel that rumble in your bones. It's isn't a sound (although it's that as well) it is a seismic event. When these planes fly over in the video, I saw at least one instance where they had kicked their afterburners on, they are going for maximum impact via the force of the sound of their planes; that gets the adrenalin pumping and usually makes for a better game because EVERYONE, players and fans alike, are feeling it. Bottom line, it isn't just a visual representation of power... It is POWER that you can literally feel in your bones. Your experience with the UK team may be a little lower key, because they fly trainer aircraft with much less powerful engines; they literally cannot put down that layer of sound power that the US teams do. (Their flying is incredible, but the machinery can only do what it can do.)

I had the pleasure of watching the Quonset Point (state of Rhode Iskand, US) from the comfort of my deck or yard for many years. Blue Angels, state of the art helicopters, etc. The first time I saw the Stealth was breathtaking! Especially since it flew so very low (no tall buildings or mountains in North Kingstown!). It was an amazing sight! A feat of engineering and supreme piloting skill, and the sterling capabilities of the aircraft maintenance crews! Then my mind went to the enemy nation's civilians see this behemoth in time of war, must be blood chilling, black as death incarnate. So still have much pride tempered with sobering reality. *Navy brat, daughter of a career Navy man

You recognized the "Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit" on your own! The bigger bomber is the "Boeing B-52 Stratofortress"! The fighters that I could see were all "Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II"! The smoking formation with lights I couldn't identify. 🤷‍♂️ As for "best" I guess crowd reactions and locations were included. 🤔

I like going to airshows so some of my favorite ones that I've personally witnessed were at airshows. I was at one in Pensacola back in the late 80s or early 90s where several things happened... the Pensacola airshow is pretty big so we got there early to watch all the flybys that usually happen by lots of random aircraft. We saw some Apache helicopters come in and dance... nearly doing loops, even. There were also some RAF Panavian Tornadoes that came over that, in true RAF fashion, were pushing the limits of the rules and were very near Mach 1. And we saw a B-52... I noticed it drop out of the clouds several miles away (it was just a dot at the time and we were wondering what it was... we knew it was big). When it came by, it was just a couple hundred feet above the tarmac with gear down, etc. It then lifted gear and they pushed the throttles to the stops. I'd almost swear that I saw small rocks bouncing on the ground. Of course, the Blue Angels were the star of the show. Another great flyover was an airshow I happened upon (didn't know it was happening, just happened to be driving through Ft. Lauderdale area in around 2004 and we saw airplanes so we found somewhere to park and watch). When we got out of the car we were walking over towards the beach and a B-1B with afterburners *roaring* flew right over the top of us at just a few hundred feet. It was coming from behind us and we didn't hear it until we saw it in front of us... bright lights from the exhaust and then the thunder. My friend and I both almost hit the ground. And then another great one, this was in the 80s when things were a little more relaxed... I was at a college football game and the flyover the stadium was *literally* at the level of the stadium lights. We were sitting at the very top of the stadium and were looking nearly level at the jets as they flew by. That one was amazing.

The vast majority of flyovers are flown by line active duty, reserve or Air Guard pilots, very, very few are flown by the aerial demonstration teams, namely the Air Force Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels. What you see in a flyover are very highly trained and skilled airmen, but they are representative of all United States Air Force and Navy aviators.

No, uhuh, no, See Jim Cornelison Chicago Bears vs Seattle Seahawks Playoffs Jan 16.2011, and watch the whole 2 minutes. As soon as they say "Anthem to be sung by Jim Cornellison", the Crownd Jumps into it. Daz, is a Jersey's Devil fan. If he never has seen them play at the United Center against the Blackhawks then you left something out of your Hockey Experience. Since 1984 Playoffs Chicago fans have done the Anthem differently. The crowd is loud, we always have an Opera Singer , The Fabulous Wayne Mesmer who retired and Gave the Duty to Jim Cornelison. The planes arrive EXACTLY when He's hitting the last phrase. The timing for that is difficult. The Crowd roaring, because we do that from beginning to end is electrifying and the fly over is awesome. Then, not flyover related, see the 1991 NHL Playoffs National Anthem. When Our Troops were in Iraq for Desert Storm, they piped that game in to them, with a side purpose of jacking the troops up. My brother was in Desert storm and he said they were ready to handle anything after hearing that one. I played it for the first time for my buddy in TN and he got goosebumps and is dying to make his way up to Chicago to Experience that. Every Black Hawks game starts that way and when their singers are out on loan, we jump in. Only place I never heard it happen, where else, NASCAR in Chicago. Nobody knew why I was cheering when they announced Wayne Mesmer in opening day, must not been from around there.

In the American military, a certain portion of the defense budget is allocated towards training costs (fuel for pilot training, etc). It's my understanding that these fly overs don't cost the government extra money, because they classify them as "training" flights. Assuming that the British also set money aside for their pilot training, it wouldn't cost the government any extra money to put on fly overs for football fans in the UK, right?

Forgive me if anyone has explained this yet. When you see a flyover with one spot in the formation left empty (like #10 in this video), the space is to pay respect & remember any pilot who basically never landed. So they leave a spot open in the formation for that lost pilot. It's a beautiful yet haunting reverence.
@scottbrown8604
@scottbrown8604 6 ай бұрын
#10 is not flying the missing man formation. Four planes in a flyover is normal. If it was a missing man formation, the plane on the inside that is not flying lead would pull out of formation during the flyover. All four planes stay together in this flyover.
