A superb lesson Leila! It is indeed important to be aware of these potential mistakes among which many can lead to very awkward and embarrassing situations especially the 'send to all' ! The function 'unsend' or 'undo sending' can come in handy... if carried out quickly enough of course! Carefully Re-read is equally important if only to avoid typos or misunderstandings... I worked in a firm where I moderately appreciated the assistant of my boss for some reasons and believe me I sometimes sent him some well-felt mails to express my way of thinking lol. And Sabe wasn't in my back to moderate me 😂But, although his stupidity and incompetence sometimes deserved it, I was never insulting or unrespectful though, in fact I rather like subtle irony and sarcasm which basically are still perhaps more daunting and efficient 'weapons'. Congrats for the pieces of advice and the useful lesson! 👏Apart from that nothing special. I would just tell Sabrah (if she reads) again how much I miss her and how much I love her, and that I'm looking forward to her lesson, in turn. Question: why don't we get 'likes' or feedback anymore from you in the comment section? ... Now I'm still eagerly waiting the day you'll be reunited with Sabe for a shared lesson; I loved and I miss your antics and Sabrah's laughs at them. ;-) 🤗😊 Merci beaucoup Leila, bisous. Je vous aime. Bisous my Sabe, Love 😘❤❤🌹🌹

In regards to salutations - I have had situations that (1) I do not typically know the marital status of a female people, so I default to "Ms." and (2) with foreign names in the work place, I do not typically know the gender and/or cultural practices of their name. Without knowing the gender of the addressee and/or cultural practices, I have addressed email salutations to 'Dear "

Could you explain or possibly do a video on what X means in writing and when it is socially appropriate or encouraged? I'm from the US and we do not use it unless signing a letter with X's and O's. I've seen it in contexts where we typically wouldn't indicate a kiss in the US. For example, I got a dog sitting job in Cornwall and the owner who I had never met signed off nearly everything in her texts with an X (or multiple X's). I never use them, but I'm starting to worry that my texts might sound rude because of it. At the same time, I don't want to include them in the wrong context. Any clarification would be helpful! Thanks so much! Your videos are so helpful in clarifying our differences in language usage :)

Xx means 'kisses' basically. Well, I don't claim to be an expert, Cocotulle, but it seems to me that those kind of endearment signs, symbols or emoticons should be reserved for close ones, friends, or colleagues you know well and are close to. For people you don't know enough like new customers or some supervisors, line managers, etc., I guess it is better, at least in the first times of your relation, to stick to conventional forms of politeness such as those that Leila proposed and advised. Bisous Xx ;-)

@@fabrice9252 Thanks! That’s what I figured, but I feel like I’ve seen it used way more than that. I’m not sure if it is something like lol “laugh out loud” where people will use it to creat a lighthearted situation rather than actually “laughing out loud.” I feel like it means more than kisses since I’ve had so many strangers use it with me…

Corresponding with US English speakers I have more often been greeted with just my given name. You, a Brit, suggest 'Hi Peter' or 'Dear Peter'. In a British English context, would just 'Peter' as the greeting be proper?

Thanks for this! Very useful especially the bit about passive aggressive phrases. Btw is there any way to say Dear Sir/Madam somehow gender neutrally? How bad is it to write Dear Madam/Sir? I try to avoid Sir/Madam so I write e.g. Dear Customer Service or Dear Supplier, how bad is that? I got feedback some time ago that I was passive aggressive to write Dear Customer Service 🤷

~~~~~~ Little robot to come ~~~~~~ They say a child's about to be - A being they say to be new - You have succeeded, good for you I have a great need to know him It's the second discovery A happy man among his kind I want to give him these small rhymes Like a present, like a warning Little robot about to come Little robot about to come They are lovely your tomorrows They'll put two wires in your head To bring inside all the knowledge The one that you will have to get To be, as they would say, honest The wires will burn themselves out For fear that anything might pass What could possibly make you think Give you troubles or states of mind They say with fumes of gasoline They'll accustom your throat and lungs The perfume of seas and mountains You won't even know about them For your ears, they'll be accustomed To what animals used to flee Within you, sounds will be sorted; All your ideas will be the same Little robot about to come Little robot about to come They are lovely your tomorrows You'll be told from your first moments "Little one, beware of strangers But don't fear, you're in no danger If you keep being obedient." You will have no choice of weapons In your battle with life and fate But when your comrades they'll fall You'll have neither tears nor sadness Yes, You'll have a perfect existence Always happy, always content But if one day you have the chance To hear my song of disturbance Those two wires inside your head Maybe you'll bring them together Or you will blow everything up Or you will become a Poet... Little robot about to come Little robot about to come Ain't so lovely our tomorose ... F. 08/21/23. Hope you like it 😘🌹❤
~~~~~~~ A poet ~~~~~~ We need the poet, who loves shade and azure, Gentle and splendid mind, with radiance pure, Who walks before all, guiding those who question, Mysterious singer whom trembling listen Women and dreamers, wise men and lovers, Becomes formidable at certain moments. Sometimes, when we start dreaming on their book, Where all lulls, dazzles, calms, caresses, hooks Where the soul can find honey in each step, Where the darkest corners have gleams of heaven, Amidst this humble and lofty poetry, In this sacred peace where grow blooms of beauty Where we can hear the tears and sources flowing Where stanzas, birds painted with a hundred tints, Fly singing of love, of hopefulness and glee, There must be moments when we shudder, and see Suddenly, dark, grave, dire to the passer A wild verse roaring out of the darkness! We need a poet with fertile seeds and veins Be like these verdant, fresh, and deep forests, Filled with wind and light, full of loving songs, Charming, where suddenly... You will find a lion! F.08/15/23. My last poem, hope you like it. ❤🌹

O Sabrah, your smile Oh! Your beloved smile You whom I love to die! Shimmers in my eyes, like a fair summer sky; Of the most serene day is the laughing sunrise; Of the evening star, the sugary shine! The Rose opening to the zephyr's kiss, Embalming the grove that gave it the day; The harmonious wave where the sun gazes; The freshness of morn in a scorching stay! The discreet confess of the naive virgin Whose holy purity still is sealing her lip; Of a love to share the fearful promise That lovers engrave in their hearts like Gems Your so sweet smile is the untold drunkenness That makes me forget everything, 'til the pain! Of heaven ajar the enchanted plain! : It's Love escorted by dreams of happiness! F. 08/15/23. 💯❤️💯🌹

O Sabrah, ... When, with both eyes closed, on a warm eve' of Fall I breathe in the scent of your warm-hearted breast, I see unrolling isles, happy shores, fests Dazzled by the fires of a sun that enthralls A lazy island where Mother Nature gives Some singular trees and delectable fruit; Men whose bodies are slender, vigorous, And women whose eyes by frankness astonish. Guided by your scent to delightful climates, I see a harbour filled with high sails and masts All still exhausted by the tropical tide Whilst the fragrances of the green tamarind, Which through the air waft and - my nostril - inflame Blend in my spirit with the song of seamen. F. 08/14/23. To hell with all those pointless, alienating emails! Let's learn English through poetry, and the world will undoubtedly be a better place! ;-) 😘🌹❤🌞🌊🌴
