2 years ago I was diagnosed with Chrohns disease at 28 years old. Every hour of everyday was a struggle, in short my life revolved around the toilet and this led me to lose my job, my GF and my life. Doctors prescribed drug after drug and nothing made me feel better. So a year ago I decided enough was enough!! I needed to heal my body with nutrition and exercise, Keto and IF being key. I've just come back from the hospital and I am showing virtually no symptoms! My inflammation is almost zero, my blood is as healthy as any 20 year old. It's been a long journey and alot of sacrifice. But wow! I wish doctors instead of prescribing meds would help people and support people to make the right lifestyle changes. Thomas you've helped me alot! I feel like crying when I realise how far I've come. My life on keto and IF is amazing and I feel incredible! Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou for making these videos to help all of us lead healthier happier lives 💪💪💪

GhrisCreen I’m the US, the medical profession is broken. Too many people becoming doctors for wealth and not caring. They become tied to big Pharma. Most doctors I’ve seen in the past will be prescription engines, treating symptoms not causes, and plastering you with their drugs of choice. My last doctor was so obtuse, and in my mind conducting malpractice. She refused blood tests when I found candida was the root cause to my conditions. She couldn’t make money on that.

Tyler1989 I agree. I was a strict follower of Dave Asbery, the Bulletproof diet creator, but he is adamant on never going back on his words, even if they were wrong. I still love him, but I have to fact check things he says now. DeLauer has changed his opinion on nutrition several times, and I respect him for not being afraid of saying he has gotten things wrong. Brilliant and authentic man.

@@urmum7461 I mean. 2 minutes is a real stretch. Besides he is not trying to make you lose weight only, he is trying to provide factual evidence that this thing could improve your life if you stick to it. Knowing is half the battle. You don't have to come here, you could probably fair extremely well with a sheet of things that you are allowed to eat and what to avoid. Sometimes it's not that simple though and you may hit a problematic spot down the road. Besides that we live in a world were big companies make extreme amounts of money by killing us slowly and fund studies to keep the general populous out of the know and you got yourself a difficult argument to defend here. I’m 93lbs down now - started Keto in September of 2018 - and I go off Keto every once in awhile. I’ll eat a Cauliflower Crust Pizza or some Chinese Food. I haven’t gone so far as to eat Taco’s or anything containing corn, or huge amounts of fructose contains products (fruit) because I was diagnosed with a Severe Fatty Liver along with Hemochromatosis. And fructose goes straight to the liver. So, I stay away from anything that has corn in it, or fructose. And I certainly won’t touch anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup In it because that stuff is just straight out poison. I’m aiming to hit 100lbs loss this month (07/19). That’ll put me at 221lbs. I might try to go even lower because the Keto diet is so favorable to my palate. I love it. And this guy - Thomas DeLauer - helped me so much. Thanks Thomas.

Siim Land! I have a question, I have seen some of your videos and was wondering if you could help me with some confusion, so when it comes to strength and building muscle, will someone on Keto be just as strong as someone on a regular diet or stronger or weaker? Say both people had the same variables, but the only difference is one was on Keto and the other was on regular and they trained for a Year. The reason I am asking this is because I want to get stronger, and I want to get abs, and I know Keto is Healthy! But I don't know if it will limit my strength abilities, or should I just do Keto 5 times a week and then do a normal diet on the Weekend like Brandon Carter does and suggests, called The Cyclical Ketogenic Diet

Roger Schwarzinger I am more explosive aka stronger or faster when I eat carbs. When on keto I can go on longer but a bit weaker when lifting heavy weights and a bit slower when running 10 km. So if you compete in strength or explosive sports you should absolutely eat carbs. If you hobby train it doesn’t really matter in the long run.

Start with very simple moves and start little. You must slowly condition your joints and tendons to this new stress that is exercise. When you workout at first, even if it feels like you could do way more reps or heavier reps, don't. Fix yoiurself a small exercise routine at first, and slowly build up from that. Take it from someone that started to strong and damaged his elbow tendon and shoulder tendon. 7 years later and I still can't grip with my left arm and raise my right shoulder without it getting blocked or hurting. Tendons almost do not heal back. So start really slow, and focus on the movement, it's important not to damage your joints with bad posture, moves, and doing it too fast (like crossfit do, just rushing through the exercises).

I went from a lean, active healthy person who enjoyed hiking and other outdoor activities to an invalid with an extra 20 lbs. and took 11 prescriptions who could barely climb steps.Words could not describe the depression from loosing everything I loved in life to becoming a hermit with chronic pain. About 6 months ago I became angry and decided not to accept my new life as an invalid.I studied diets and am focused on the MIND diet and KETO. Both include healthy fats, vegetables and protein. I lean toward a mediteran flavores. I am slowly eliminating my prescription medications with a healthy diet, moderate exercise, meditation and rest. I feel so much better. My doctor took me off of 2 high blood pressure prescriptions after only 3 months on keto. My heart was working better than it had in 20 years, I'm not borderline diabetic any longer and my cholesterol levels are now normal. It has now been 8 months and I have lost 40lbs with no exercise. I have many disabilities so this has been a lifesaver.

This was undoubtedly the most helpful "Keto video" I've seen in a while. It addresses all the reason I was hesitant to even start keto (all the naysayers and fear mongers about keto, that are pushing their own diets). Anytime I look at a diet option the first question I ask is, What is the exit plan for this diet? Many do not have any exit plans. Those are generally the most unsafe plans.

Went on keto diet Easter 2019, due to doctor wanting me on metformin for diabetes, I took one and made sick as a dog. Decided right then to do something else. Not only I don't take that anymore I am off of my blood pressure pill, and omeprazole that I took for 25 yrs. Many times I have tried to get off omeprazole, I believe cutting out all bad oils was the main culprit. I could go on and on. Bottom line keto saved my life.

This was really great even for an experienced low-carber. I appreciate your insight regarding the keto police. I personally have found my body feels better when I eat fruit a few times a week, and for some reason it doesn’t kick me out of ketosis (apples, avocados, blueberries.. not bananas). I’m always unsure if it’s “ok” to do this and this video reminds me that hey, if I feel good and my body performs well with a little fruit, I can just ignore the police. Also adding that my body needs significantly more protein than the standard keto diet recommends, perhaps because I work out a lot and I’m active nonstop with my kids. 1.2-1.5 grams per pound of body weight for me and I am satiated. Without it I find myself thinking about eating too often.

TOPIC I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ABOUT --- One of my commandments has become about eating enough. I am no longer hungry, in ketosis that happens. I have found I need to eat enough food or I don't lose. That becomes an issue with the concept of don't eat unless you are hungry. So, I have to work at my macros and be sure to look at enough protein, enough balance in everything I eat. (ex. don't eat all your protein and ignore the kale on my plate). Thank you for all the work and research you do.

Today is officially day1 AGAIN thanks to this ! Ive been trying for 3 weeks almost went mad, seriously. Especially with counting every single gram of carb in fiber, the protein fear and being HELLA confused all the time... This has made life so frkn much easier i wish i had seen this earlier... I've been watching Thomas's content for months but I'm always more on the IF side as i was kinda scared to get on keto, but this is a life saver for beginners (and this is the most I've seen Thomas move in a video ngl it's like a day in a life) Thanks A LOT !

Early in the video about Carb intake! I understand what you're suggesting however you seem to use the terms "Carbs" and "Glucose" interchangeably quite often. No the body does not needs Carbs. Yes the body does need Glucose. You mention Gluconeogenesis but do you actually require carb intake for glucose? According to what so many in the Keto community, including you, suggest is your body can make all the glucose it needs from protein and other stuff to manufacture the glucose it needs. Carbs not required. Again in regards to Glucose/Carbs: You consume Carbs which in turn is turned in to Glucose. So using them interchangeably can be confusing. Not suggesting you're wrong/incorrect but just some thoughts. Love your stuff.

Thomas, I really like you. I've seen your videos show up on KZbin for about a year but never clicked on them until recently because I always thought you were a typical (stereotypical) 'meathead' bodybuilder type -- probably very cocky, not intelligent, and a show-off. You're the opposite of all of those things! You come across as quite humble and down to earth, and it seems you enjoy teaching us and take your work here seriously, and I appreciate that. Cheers, Elizabeth

Thomas, great comprehensive guide here. I’d also respectfully add, not because I’m a credentialed expert but from personal trial and error, that there is absolutely such a thing as consuming too much fat. The Keto police you mentioned might want to lock me up for this one but I know I’ve hit plateaus in the past on Keto and it was from getting carried away with fat bomb snacks, too much cheese, and too much nut butters. Especially for folks looking to lose weight, be mindful that fat is not a magical macro nutrient that can be consumed at will. I personally found that restricting carbs was more critical than hitting certain fat counts. Thanks for this video. Great reminders for me and my Keto lifestyle.

I appreciate you addressing in several of your commandments that keto can make people over the top. It can be crazy making if you allow it to. If it is something you plan to sustain, you have to get rid of the constant intensity. I think we are our own keto police sometimes. You can be serious about keto without being a nut. I am 4 months in and am slowly learning that I won’t ruin things if I have a beer (one in 4 months) or a donut (have had one in 4 months) or if I don’t test my blood constantly.

Keto police HAHAHAHAH everyone in my freaking life. They try to bring me down so much. Except, they don’t tell me carbs are bad. They try to make me give in. They avoid me when they see me happy with myself and reaching my goals. They just sit on the couch eating shit and complaining and I’m actually doing something for me. They try to tear me down all the time.

I don't know about you but I love it when people are being "nice" and trying to get me to eat things I wouldn't put in my mouth unless I was dying and maybe not even then. And then saying things like "I just thought it would be a nice treat for you", " it's okay to let the diet go for today". All said in a saccharin tone. And I'm thinking if you wanted to do something nice for me you could have brought me bacon LOL. But these are all people I know would rather I either be miserable or fat
