In order to determine where the most Asian Americans live, we needed to look at the U.S. Census to see where the states with the biggest asian populations are located.
SUBSCRIBE to get REGIONAL INFORMATION about where YOU live: bit.ly/2deRUSV
Our goal is to combine recent data, fun videos, and thoughts about local culture into bite-sized snacks of shareable information. We call it bite-sized regional infotainment. We try to paint a picture of what’s happening in a region based on “Friday Night Science” - how’d you argue at a bar. To do that, we gather data from around the web to help determine a wide array of factors about where you live, things like safety, desirability, and culture.

Not necessarily true. my experience in suburban NY has shown me otherwise. Ive seen them move into brand new, big houses, move about 20 people in there, then every morning the big shuttle van leaves with those 20 people, taking them to the local Chinese restaurant, where they work late into the night. Those houses end up in disrepair over time...Filipinos on the other hand, are the opposite, they take care of their homes....

Thank you for presenting factual information for the different ethnicities in the U.S. I have an observation from living and working in 4 western states. I was born in the southern California megalopolis, then went to college out of state and then entered a career that allowed me to transfer all over the U.S. and travel on temporary assignments and training in 8 other states. At one point I was living in New Mexico, which is not very diverse, you have Anglos, Native Americans and at the time, about 70% of New Mexico was Hispanic, with most of the Anglos in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Las Cruces and eastern New Mexico. The latter is really the west portion of Texas. Anyhow, one day a van full of Asians came into our ranger station and I realized I missed the diversity of California. A couple years later I was applying for many jobs in the western U.S. and was offered a job in eastern California. We moved to a small town in this region in the early 1980's. We received TV from the Sacramento area. A lot of Vietnamese refugees settled in the Central Valley after the war ended in 1975. A large portion of those did not speak English when they arrived. In 1982 TV news presented many stories of the Valedictorians of graduating classes. A large number of these were Vietnamese. They arrived not speaking English and just 7 years later their children were graduating at the top of their classes in high school. That is testament to their ability to roll up their sleeves and work very hard. I was amazed. In the 80's I saw a lot of Asians backpacking in the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada, which is contrary to the statistics you presented. This likely reflects that people of all cultures are spending too much time in front of a computer screen or their smartphones. In my U.S. Forest Service career I had the pleasure of having many Asian coworkers, all who were devoted to environmental/natural resource issues. I continue to observe that many fly fisherman are Asian. This is a specialty group in fishing hobby, who possess more skill than the others. I worked in the field with a high public contact workload and spoke with Asians camping, fishing, sightseeing and backpacking, this in the late 1980's to 2005 when I retired.

In the video, we do learn that the majority of Asians in a town of Virginia are Vietnamese. And I also think he specifically mentions the fact that in Alaska, there are a lot of Philippinos. While in a 10 minute video, you are only going to hit highlights, he is pretty thorough. Regarding Texas, it probably means that Vietnamese is a distant third to Spanish, and remains below the percentage of Asians found in Alaska (which is number 10 on the list).

Texas has around 5.4% Asians (All Asian races). The 10th most Asian state in this list is Alaska at 6%. So Texas couldn't make the cut. I am sure in large cities like Dallas, Austin the Asian populations are bigger. But we are talking about the overall population in the state. This list does include all Asian races from Indians to Chinese to Filipinos, etc. There is no way California can reach 14% Asian population if it only includes North East Asian descent.
