Honestly I don't get the obsession with the show. Scooby Doo doesn't exactly have some reputation for consistent quality. If there's one thing you count on in a few years they'll be another show that may or may be good. That goes doubly for any show with a legacy because you know they'll try again.

@@TyphonJRT Well for me, Scooby-Doo is like one of my favorite shows, I know everyone doesn't love it, but it is special to me. But even if I wasn't a fan of Scooby-Doo, the show is still horrendous from it's writing, attempts at humor, and overall even trying to tell a story. And for me being a Scooby-Doo fan, it makes it all about 10 times worse.

Facts. This show is so undeniably horrendous as fudge, that it makes June from Little Einsteins look and feel like a very well-mannered Queen by Comparison and in fact, even Aigis and June would be good friends with each other too and I can say the same with Max too (ya know, the one who is Goofy's son). So, in other words, it's official: Little Einsteins had someone who acts more like a matured Human Being than this variant of Velma who is actually a Villainous Protagonist than a Heroic one, meaning that if Captain Jake is the Little King of the eternally expanded Playhouse Disney/Disney Junior family, then June would be the Queen.

Someone said something interesting about the Total Drama show when Total Dramarama came out: The original show had both stereotypical character and ANTI-stereotypes. For example, Gwen was a goth girl who was actually pretty sociable. Total Dramarama has only stereotypes.
@Ayana-LTLA
@Ayana-LTLA Жыл бұрын
That’s one of my main, after many, negatives I have about the show. Everyone is literally the same person they were when they were teens except Gwen! They probably just thought “Oh she’s a goth on TD so let’s just make her be unsocial, creepy, weirdo child.” OG Gwen was friendly and nice to others(minus Heather), but in rama they completely ruined her character. She didn’t act like a child like the others, she acted like she was a stereotypical emo/goth teen in a child’s body.
@lopezjdamian
@lopezjdamian Жыл бұрын
I actually think what makes the show suck is it's the antithesis of OG TDI. None of them are teens, so no drama/relatability. It's been dumbed down meaning less character depth, less good jokes and less violence (a fun draw of the original) and most importantly it has no edge. One of the biggest draws of TDI is it was edgy and got away with some bat shit crazy content. One of the most memorable being Heather's top coming off. We were straight up given a nudity scene (it was censored) of teen girl. That right there is edge and pushing it. Then of course all the cynicism is gone too. With no drama, there's no snarky back and forth or rivalries.

I think "tone deaf" is an understatement of the year for Santa Inc and it is flat out oblivious to the point. Santa even pointed out to Candy that she couldn't be the next Santa because she has made it abundantly clear she hates Christmas and she hates children, which the fundamentals of the job kinda require you to have a fondness for both. She takes this advice and completely dismisses it to whine about how it's about sexism that's blocking her and not the obvious fact she doesn't have any traits that would be needed to do the job properly.

To my knowledge, Kamp Koral has been confirmed to be non-canon, mostly due to Sandy Cheeks being present. In SpongeBob series proper, she had just moved to Bikini Bottom, and in fact underwater at all, in Season 1. Also, it's implied that Patrick's "parents" in the Patrick Show are paid actors, not his biological parents, due to his biological parents being established in that one episode "I'm With Stupid" and being returning characters in at least one other episode.

In theory fans can also do what comic book writers do and say the shows are set in alternative/parallel universes. Some comic book companies, most notably DC and Marvel, have a number of different universes. One reason is to explain discrepancies. For instance, Superman was originally portrayed as working for The Daily Star and beginning his heroic career as an adult in Metropolis, but later stories portrayed him as working for The Daily Planet and beginning his heroic career as a teenager in Smallville. The writers eventually explained the discrepancies by saying, “The one Superman is from Earth-One while the other is from Earth-Two.” Another reason is to explore different ideas and possibilities without mucking up the main universe’s continuity. Marvel has its What If…? series and the Ultimate Marvel universe while DC has its Elseworlds books.

Mindy is not completely blameless. She was Executive Producer, which means she had to review and sign off on anything related to the show. The fact that we Got Velma was either her shirking off her responsibilities as an Exec. Producer or she looked at the trainwreck and said this is gold, which says a lot about her. One of the biggest problems with Santa Inc is that there’s already a much better alternative in Arthur Christmas. Arthur Christmas does the idea of “unlikely character proves they can become the next Santa” much better than Santa Inc, and does it in a way that’s not incredibly mean-spirited, gross, and/or vulgar. It also has a character realize that maybe they’re not cut out to be Santa, and that’s ok, they can still help bring joy to the world in their own special way- which I feel like is the lesson Santa Inc’s main character needed to learn, but sadly the show just continued to double down on its shallow edginess.

I haven't watched Santa Inc., but from what I've seen, the show approach on comedy is... make everyone swear. This worked in the early 90s because it was new, but it no longer works after around 30 years. But my bigger problem is hypocricy. I've noticed a trend in the clips I watched that everytime a man is abused in a way, it is treated like a joke, but everyone treats the situation different when the female is abused and the tone is serious then. I hate when movies presents serious social issues, but also have double standards. In case of abuse is seen as bad only if the female is the victim.

One particular modern cartoon that was really hated was Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go. The very moment the show was announced back in 2020, during the 75th anniversary of The Railway Series, the Thomas fandom was pissed. Seeing the most iconic character in British literature history be turned into a literal kid was lambasted. Even the whole thing with complete disregard of railway regulations and how some parts of Sodor became a literal playground. And when the show launched in 2021, there was some news articles saying it’s “haunting to look at”. People just hated it. The animation looking bog standard and some of the characters (Who are steam engines) breaking regulations and even going off the tracks. But as the show went on, people actually saw some things they liked (James being a funny character, the child actors were actually good, and getting Neil Crone to reprise the role of Gordon from Magic Railroad (And later on Eddie Glenn (Thomas’ VA in Magic Railroad) to voice Toby)) and now some Thomas fans have accepted the show. Even me, someone who grew up with the model series, have to say that All Engines Go was something I dreaded, to something I accepted.

Okay The Patrick Star Show, you did it. You've officially gained mainstream now. The Patrick Star Show has just been sitting there, quietly chilling in the background for the past 2 years since July 9, 2021, obviously not gaining anywhere near the amount of attention as the main SpongeBob SquarePants show. But then all of a sudden the episode "Bubble Bass Reviews" premiered on July 24, 2023 and now finally The Patrick Star Show has an episode gaining mainstream attention due to the episode's blatant references to internet culture and the good old Nostalgia Critic. A man that PhantomStrider has collaborated with multiple times. Some of these cartoon reviewers are really going places these days, huh? It's funny too because back in the day, people insisted to me that the main SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon had two episodes that were vaguely referencing social media. Specifically "The Krabby Kronicle" (cancel culture) and "Bulletin Board" (Twitter/X). But despite these claims, neither of those episodes got mainstream attention when they premiered or in any of the years since. Most likely because both "The Krabby Kronicle" and "Bulletin Board" are vaguely social media themed without having any characters actually use the internet or computers in both episodes, except for a printing press. I like how it took until the spin-off Patrick Star Show to make an internet/social media episode within the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise to get actual mainstream attention. Like I've said before about being more direct with its references, The Patrick Star Show episode "Bubble Bass Reviews" actually has Bubble Bass using a computer and directly wearing clothes that parody an internet personality. There you go internet critics that caught the attention of this episode. Bubble Bass is using the internet to voice his reviews, just like you critics out there using the internet to respond to this very episode.
@foxymetroid
@foxymetroid Жыл бұрын
I think "The Krabby Kronicle" was more of an attack on yellow journalism and tabloids, both of which have been around for over a century while the Bulletin Board was about "boards", which were parts of websites where users could talk about various topics. Think of it like Reddit before Reddit was even a thing.

@vladyvhv9579

Indeed. Honestly, the basic Scooby Doo formula adjusted a bit to more target adult audience could be a good thing, if properly written/executed. Mystery Incorporated had something of a right idea for this, but skewed a bit still to some "what were the writers thinking" moments. Season 1 Velma there kinda rubs people the wrong way when she tries the "me or the dog" thing and gets a very real world response. But then, everyone treats Shaggy like dirt, rather than calling her out on the obvious "jerk move". Minor nags asside, it's actually a rather nice take on the the premise. And something similar but ratcheted up a few notches into being more targeted to adults could really work well. It could well be something that would help people forget that "Velma" as a show exists.

That’s why it is the only good thing to ever come out of this rotten franchise. That middle finger was justified as payback for everything it has done to perpetuate the lie that animation is just for children. The shower scene alone was pointless because it was about making commentary on contemporary trends by playing it straight as the punchline because fourth wall digs are funny logic. It’s funny how some “kids shows” are more intelligent, introspective, and mature than most adult animated shows. But, some cartoons on nick or CN have been all noise and no substance too. Everyone is entitled to like what they like, but it’s often the well-written, and thought out cartoons that are remembered by both children and adults. For example, my siblings and our Mom both liked Scooby Doo, SpongeBob, and Danny Phantom. Because they weren’t just flashy shows with well-written jokes, there was a little more insight into the themes and messages they explored. Or, they were simply just that entertaining to both adults and kids. Scooby Doo had a nice formula of solving mysteries and teaching viewers about problem solving and critical thinking, while shows like SpongeBob were witty in their humor, making for memorable episodes in its “golden age”.

The problem with Velma is that the Scooby-Doo franchise is above all about solving mysteries, and Velma fails on this score. Part of the appeal of new versions of the show is seeing what they do in service of setting up mysteries for Mystery Inc to solve, be it adding in genuine supernatural elements, putting a 21st century spin on things, crossovers from other franchises, a more serialised narrative etc. Velma’s spin is that she’s the focus character and she’s a bitch to everyone whilst simultaneously expecting respect while alienating people. Gravity Falls did mystery better than Velma did!

The sad part about bad writing is that the people who made the writing has a massive ego that makes them blame the viewers for "not being interested" instead of ever considering the possibility of being bad at writing. Either that or they just want your money and doesn't care what the quality is. Either way, they act surprised when they're told that they're bad at their job.
