People just use it for facts that are of very little to no value for them, so of course they'll just go "yeah, that's how it went" when presented with the idea that Mandela died in prison or the Berenstain bears was called "Berenstein bears". But ask the thousands of people who have actually studied the life of Nelson Mandela, or the people who have directly worked on the Berenstain Bears show, and they won't misremember any of that information. That term is total bullshit and it just feeds to people's ideas of fantasies and alternate realities.

GSP beat Hendricks. I even thought that in the moment. Ppl were caught up in the damage on GSPs face. Very close fight, but i feel gsp did what he needed to do to win within the rules of mma, especially in those days when just Takedowns counted for more, before it turned into the "just stand and bang and put on a show" era we are in today

Absolutely right. All credit to Hendricks for taking head-kicks and actually being able to roll his eyes when any other man aside from the 1% would be knocked out but there's no denying that, while this isn't point scoring, you head-kick someone and that looks good on your part in terms of your contribution to the fight. The issue is, Hendricks put on a fantastically convincing performance where whenever he got hit, he'd intentionally make this 'I'm bored' look, as much to say although that was a clean hit, it did nothing, which only made the issue of GSP's notorious Nate Diaz equivalent cuttable skin tissue even more convincing as a sign he'd lost despite them really just getting clean hits on each other, regardless of blood or a bored look. When Dana said 'he wobbled him, he hurt him, he dropped him' that was the biggest load of shit ever. Neither looked hurt, wobbled, dropped and to say that with a straight face just because GSP was cut up, showed Dana's measure.

Yep, GSP almost always ends up bruised up in fights, unless it's complete domination like Serra 2, both Koscheck fights, Penn 2... Oh Tommy, trying to pull a fast one on us with GSP v Hendricks. How are you going to ignore that GSP landed more sig strikes in round 1 and had a good submission attempt? Damage is absolutely one of the most important factors of a fight, at least tody. Effective striking trumps effective grappling as well as everything else and the rules for effective striking clearly state that immediate impact is scored over cumulative impact. Therefore, under the new rules, heaviest shots that land are scored over basically everything else. Now I'm not saying those were the rules at the time, just that it's how the fights are scored right now. Go look up Angela Hill's last fight. She was controlling the pace, landing and ducking shots, had a lot of control against the fence, controlled the octagon, had more overall agression and even got a takedown. How was it scored? A win for Lemos.

Damage is a scoring metric, it trumps everything. Johnny Hendricks landed the hardest, most damaging shots of the round. Significant strike numbers don't tell the full story, if that were the case then Joanna would have beaten Rose in their rematch (UFC stats show Joanna outlanded Rose in every round but Rose did more damage so she deservedly won). The guillotine GSP had in on Hendricks wasn't tight at all as he popped out shortly afterwards, meaning it was ultimately insignificant. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5u4amh-fdt3n68
@Dukeflyhawker
@Dukeflyhawker 2 жыл бұрын
@@madgavin7568 watched the video and the full first round (again) and I was correct. the word "Damage" appears nowhere in the rule book. Your interpretation as well as that video are plain wrong. 1. The sub attempt was significant. Hendricks hand even begins to flutter like he was tapping in anticipation of the pressure wasn't released, but it was released. This is very much a sig sub attempt. Especially coming off a take-down and the most meaningful action right out of the gate. 2. The rules talk about 'heavier strikes counting more than total strikes if they impact the fight'. Did Hendricks have heavier strikes? Yes. Did they impact Georges in any meaningful way? No. If they did, Hendricks would have kept landing. Instead, Georges fought through everything with no hesitation and Hendricks started getting tired and slowing down as the round ended (watch the way he breathes and has trouble carrying his head straight), allowing Georges to continue out scoring him. And that's it. Georges won by the rules. The 3 refs were among the most experienced in mma history. They understand judging criteria a lot better than journalists and fans who insist 'damage' = scoring, when that's not what the rules say

at the time, i wanted gus to win so bad and the fight was fkn amazing. That said, i am also a realist and mma hardcore, and Jon fairly won the fight. If you cant look at it objectively, then you cant have an opinion that holds weight. Most ppl that still say Gus won now, are just ppl that wanted him to win so bad like me, but have just stuck with that mindset still. Like Jones always does, he found a way to win. He dug deep and finished the fight strong, and probably was on his way to finishing Gus when the fight ended, and was coming on strong. Same with the Reyes fight, even if Reyes won 1st 3 rounds technically on points, you cant just coast at the end of a fight against Jon Jones. He WILL take over

the ronda housey discourse always confused me, if you watch the fight you see her clearly trying to lead with a punch and pull holly into a clinch, a technique she was doing since the beginning of her MMA career, Holly just managed to avoid the grapple game

Will someone explain to me how people remember Hendrix upsetting GSP and even dana ranted about how he should get a rematch. But in reality Hendrix won 3 out 5 rounds so we were all wrong? Is the Mandela effect here everyone remembers rules as who wins the most rounds is the winner but in reality it's the person who wins the least amount of rounds and does less damage?

I'm literally in the comments to see if I'm the only one. I was expecting him to say he thought GSP won, that's the only way it would be Mandela affect, cause we all remember (correctly) that Jonny won that fight. That one makes zero sense. Definitely some list packing going on here.
@Strawbclock0
@Strawbclock0 3 жыл бұрын
The claim the video is making is that we've all come around on that fight and can accept that GSP won the fight squarely. Our initial reaction was emotional and unreasonable and Hendrix didn't actually come that close to winning. That's what he's saying popular opinion is. Whether or not that's true, well I guess it depends on who you ask.

This is definitely already a widely known thing... everyone knows the UFC was backing him as much as they could (why wouldn't they) and that he never defended. Just because you're salty and want it brought up more doesn't mean its not common knowledge in the sport already.

N9 he dodnt cleaned out division but he dominated max halloway, Kod chad Mendes and KOd aldo in 13 secs and immediatly KOd a very well chinned eddie alverez. And the ufc weren't the one KOing aldo,mendes, alverez, siver that was McGregor. If he didnt deserve those title shots then why did he KO both if them with ease. I'm not a McGregor fan but hating someone so much that you down play there obvious achievements is pointless and frankly pathetic.

@@LTProductions335 cool story bro. Aldo never got his rematch that he deserved being such a long time champ (the ufc usually seems to be fair in that department) plus that pointless world tour and extensive taunting from McGregor already conditioned Aldo, he was already defeated before he stepped into the octagon. Also, Tell me? Would Siver have gotten a title shot if he had beat McGregor? You already know that answer, plus Siver wasn't even ranked that high to award a title shot to begin with. Just admit it: the UFC strapped a rocket on McGregor's back and if my comment offends anybody I frankly don't care. Keep it moving. I'm merely matching this video's energy; This is a "let's talk about it" list.
