I was a d1y1 player, until I quit playing around late 2019. I trailed off and soon I found myself consumed by the responsibility of life. I started playing when I was 12 years old and so my teenage years were spent growing up with this game. I still get destiny videos recommended to me and I still have the urge to watch a few once in a while. It’s nostalgic and melancholic but it helps remind me of the absolute best times of my life and best memories I ever made playing this game. There really isn’t anything that can capture me like destiny did. Maybe one day life will let go and destiny will consume me once more. Then again, Guardians make their own fate.

Very similar to me. Started playing at 14, played all through high school and loved D1. Made a bunch of friends there. D2 came along, friends and I didn’t like it nearly as much, slowly left 1 by 1. By 2nd semester my senior year I’d stopped playing. Realized Destiny was what held my friend group together because without it we hardly did anything. I’ll always miss D1, always

Same here. Grind is very repeatitive, do strikes, pvp, or some other activity and get weapon that might be shit or it's very good and probably nerfed in few weeks. Bungie deletes old content and brings it back some other season as a new thing. Almost all seasonal events stay the same. Old weapons, game modes and events are recycled. This game brings me nothing new anymore. There's more hackers in PvP than there's used to be before the game was free. They even deleted old raids, while people really wanted more raids. Now there's only one new raid per year. Trials is full of boosters and hackers. Had good memories with this game but it was high time for me to leave this game.

I stopped playing at the end of season 9 and I never felt so burned out. Seeing a new subclass didn't even interest me. I was tired of everything. The grinding, the lfg, the teaching, doing daily and weekly missions, maintaining my clan, peoples egos (maybe not the teaching, I loved helping others). I loved the community, best one I ever seen, but the game just feels so unplayable now. I miss all of the good times I had playing but I just can't go back to playing. My clan is basically dead, none of them play anymore and I was the last to stop playing. I want to find that motivation I had years ago for this game.

Then, honestly? Take a break. I’m in the same exact situation. Thousands of hours devoted to PvP, multiple flawless runs every weekend, and iron banner death stacks every day it was available... but now I’m bored. Trials is slow, and plagued by a meta that I don’t necessarily enjoy. Not to mention the lack of anti-cheat, and current amount of cheaters in the playerbase... not a good mix. Luckily, I have other things to play, at least until witch queen rolls around : ) I’m hoping bungie can turn it around by then, and that the game will be fun for my friends and I once more. I’ve stuck with the same core group of people for seven years and it really hurts not being able to play together as much. These big expansions always manage to pull us back together, I have faith.

I always try to improve, I'm always excited for new releases, and I'm always trying to help new players so that they don't get overwhelmed and quit early on because I know how much this game has to offer. I am grateful that I haven't developed a crazy ego because, truly, I am not the best, I've done some clutch things here and there, never soloed a dungeon (there hasn't been loot I've wanted to make it worthwhile), I have attempted day 1 raids a couple of times, and so on, but I just have fun now, I'm not trying to prove myself to anyone, I'm just looking to have a good, satisfying, kickass time.

Now im less interested in the end game activities, and just play nightfall and do all my weekly bounties. Just waiting for the next dlc, im a lore nut, so im really always looking for lore in every crevice I can glitch into. I feel like we all revert to shiny eyed guardian when a new dlc comes out, I remember just before beyond light came out, getting through the queue to watch the traveler heal itself, was a great time with all the other players there. Basically yeah definitely hit the nail right on the head.

Stage 11: Blissfully complacent (me) You've overcame all challenges. You've seen people come and go. You've braved the toughest of tough and now you're a retired veteran. You've exhausted your frustration, you've grown tired of getting upset over every little change. You've started to show a keen interest in lore vs gameplay and play the game for its value of entertainment vs cherry picking problems. You're most likely a full time job holder but still value being able to come home to destiny after work and lay down some solid numbers in the crucible and in PvE. You now treat your character like a puzzle and are showing a huge interest in armor stats and are always on the hunt look for the "perfect roll." You enjoy playing casually, mainly, but you've now found a spark of enthusiasm from builds now. Grandmasters and raids are your typical form of entertainment and armor stats / mods are now the forethought of your daily gameplay.

This video reminds me of a lot of memories back in the day. There's actually another stage where u just don't know what to do in the public world... My classmate recommended this game to me, and when I first play this game I have no idea how to get loot. I spend 100 hrs in public worlds doing public events, discovering how to do the heroic version, surprising found out lost sectors all over the maps, and back then I thought that was the way you get loot XD. The other day my classmate told me to check all the small blue crown icons, and that's the first time I finished an exotic quest. I actually get my first exotic when I first enter the game, the whisper of the worm. Back then when this quest was not deleted, it's the first challenge for almost most guardians... That jumping puzzle was the reason why I got hook by this game. Then after I finished some exotic quest, I met my clanmates. My clanmates invited me to join a raid fight, but I found that there are so many guns that I just don't have and I got no clue where to get them. So that was the first time to search for destiny 2 videos, content post online. I was basically doing most of the quests by myself. I remember one time I ask for help at the last step of the THORN quest, that strike mission was so fucking hard that it was impossible for me to accomplish. Back then my favourite exotic weapon was the wish-ender, and I always have a reckless oracle equipped with the wish-ender. No matter it's PVP or PVE. At that time I never use a special weapon unless we need DPS. I get the Recluse by this build within 1 night, and that smg was the best ever. I wasn't a big fan of grenade launchers back then, so I did not finish the mountain top quest. shit this was too many memories coming up, I need to stop or this shit is gonna be a fucking essay :)))

This is a very well done summary of Destiny players. I was one of the people from the start in the Destiny 1 beta. Hundreds of gameplay hours later the announcement of D2 came around and of course to preordering and playing that for a year. I think I started D2 on stage 10 and just never left, but I couldn't afford the time and money requirements to keep up so I ended up walking away for a bit. Came back in Forsaken, grinded back to soft cap in 2 days and left the game for good. I miss it but when you know the game so well you might as well go and get new experiences and make different memories than playing the same thing for 5+ years.

I watched this video after many years of not playing Destiny, after D1 had concluded its cycle. For reference, I played D1 from beta 'til RoI -- I'm almost 23, at time of writing. I had this video pop up in my recommended, and watched, just for nostalgia's sake. Curious, seeing Destiny had evolved far, FAR from what I'd known back then, even just seeing it was orbs of POWER being generated, I got an urge to play again; to come back home, if you will, to the universe which had enthralled me so deeply a number of years prior. Feeling the smoldering embers of curiosity and nostalgia, I acquiesced, and started playing around the last 2/3 weeks of Season of the Splicer. Confused, overwhelmed and way out of my depth... I haven't stopped playing since. I've never immersed myself this deeply into Destiny than I have now, a year and a half later. Thank you for coaxing me back home, Shadow Destiny. I love this world the same way I did before I left for... fuckin GTA V? Eugh.

Having started back in D1Y1, I distinctly remember progressing through most these stages. I don't think I ever really was a try hard, but I definitely found myself caught in a loop of grind -> dedication -> frustration -> quit, take a break, return -> hype -> dedication, and repeat the cycle. Somewhere around Shadowkeep I think I evolved as a player and since then have been in stage 9, bringing family and friends into the game, showing them the ropes, and getting them up to speed so they could play through end game content with me. Maybe, eventually I'll become ascendant, but I'm content with my Destiny so far. Excellent video, you've perfectly captured the milestone stages of this great game!

Whenever I first started playing Destiny 2 in season 9 and I was doing all of the exotic quests from the past and stuff and there was actually a large amount of content for me to do, I absolutely loved the game. About the time I had every single exotic, it started gradually getting more boring due to the lack of content. Beyond Light definitely reignited my love a little bit, but after that everything went down hill. Season 13 was the start of my reasoning for leaving the game whether I realized it back then or not. Doing all of the pinnacles and powerfuls and seasonal challenges and stuff got so stale and annoying. It became more of a chore to do those things rather than a fun experience. Everytime I would log on on Tuesday resets, I wouldn’t be saying “yay new content I’m so excited for this!” I would instead be saying “I need to finish this as fast as possible to do anything else”. That combined with the FOMO as I was juggling school at the same time and it got unbearable. The straw that broke the camels back though was master Vault of Glass. I grinded my butt of for literal months doing every single triumph for the VOG title. I devoted so much time and energy to getting that title. But whenever master vog came out, I tried so many times to complete it and every time couldn’t even get past the first encounter. I realized I had spent so much time as for it to be wasted by an activity I literally couldn’t complete. Whenever I realized that, I started putting together the dominos about how much I truly hated the expiercne of the game. How I had unbearable FOMO every Tuesday, how I wasn’t getting any enjoyment from the game, how everything felt like a chore, etc. After that, I decided to quit playing the game right before season 15 came out. I have genuinely never been happier since I quit.

But i never found myself grinding for specific roles or making certain builds. Ive always just keep the one set of master worked armour and use the weapons i like. When it comes to pvp i cant stand it. I play it when i need to for challenges but other than that i avoid it. I’m useless with all the good pvp weapons, wether that shotgun or a sniper. Ive Never done much endgame content either, Ive done deep stone maybe 3 times and that’s it, i just find it really stressful especially since i have to play with random that will loose it at me if i do one thing wrong. I love destiny but with all the vaulting they’ve done there just isn’t enough pve content I like, I’ll admit I’m not great, I don’t like playing with random strangers, and I only have 1 friend who plays so I can’t do raids. I’ll say it, escalation protocol was my favorite thing in destiny. But now it’s just boring, I love the story but the gaps between story points are so long. I haven’t even started with pvp, it’s bad right now, getting better but bad. My build is ace of spades and a sniper (whatever is good at the time) and I love it, but every other match is just pain. Be it stasis, kamehameha, or the frickn felwinter titans. I still love the game but I came from halo and right now, I get more fun from halo 3 and reach than destiny pvp. I just hope the next season and witchqueen are good. But all that’s my opinion disagree if you want but you can’t ignore the actual problems people smarter than me have talked about with the content loop.

I’m gonna disagree a bit cos I feel D2 has a lot of fun & rewarding pve at that moment but on the other hand I’m more of a solo player too and would like a lot more story quests across more of the season.

Stage 7 can be achieved very quickly in most games I find. But if you ever get more than 300 hours into a game, you'll be there. Guaranteed.

Bro I have 400 hours in destiny lmao and I'm still stage 3 or 4
