The last reason why cats have a healing effect is because taking care of them can heal you in reverse. Instead of asking them to do something for you, you can heal them by taking care of them or giving them something. This phenomenon is known as \"reverse therapy\". By taking care of something smaller than yourself, such as a cat, you will feel that you can do something for it and that it needs you, and this will give your life more energy.😻😻😻😻😻😻😻😻

One of my savannahs ran thru the house and jumped on the gas stove. It had the safety knobs. He accidentally turned the burner on. Happened right b4 we went to bed. There was a pan on top that was used for a grilled cheese. Kept knobs off stove for a long time. Prolly would not have started fire, just burned pan and set off smoke detector. Still scary, to say the least!!!!!

What a lovely video and lovely cats! I love the way you shot it. One small thing, the plant you showed as mistletoe was actually holly! Holly is not good for cats either but most cats will not chew on it because of the spikes, but mistletoe is smooth and is often dangled in a more tempting way making it much more of a hazard.

The one area of our house that gives me anxiety is the banister. We ran a clear plastic shield along the balusters so the little kitties can’t get in between and fall through, but it’s only three feet tall so they can easily jump up and clear it. The problem with that is it’s about 15 feet down to the bottom of the staircase with a handrail on the opposite side so there isn’t a friendly landing spot anywhere.
@TheCatButler2 жыл бұрын
The banister gives me anxiety too! I took Teemo and Arya to a friend's house and Teemo liked to be on top of the railing and he is clumsy. It was a 15 foot drop from there. Hmm is it possible to stack multiple plastic shields on top of each other to make it higher? As a last resort you can also have a pet gate that doesn't allow your cat to the second floor. If you don't like those options you could redo the banister area to be more cat friendly. It is a more costly option tho. Hope that helps!

I’ve had my two Maine Coon kittens for 2 weeks now, and I still feel like my home is basically a kitten death-trap 🙀 They have a knack of getting into things in ways you didn’t think were possible, so it’s definitely an eye-opening experience so far! I mean, I thought I’d cleaned the place reasonably well before they arrived, but within 30 mins one had squirmed into the smallest and dustiest of corners under the bed (which I had cleaned!) but on top of the storage boxes (which I evidently hadn’t), and came out with an entirely grey tail (instead of being black/brown/stripy!) 🫢 Earlier this week I caught one who’d got into my stash of packing supplies while I turned my back for 5 mins, and was shredding bits of bubble wrap! Managed to find space in my storage cupboard to squeeze that into out of paws’ reach… I really don’t have enough storage space, and too much stuff! In theory this means I have a great motivation for decluttering and finding better homes for everything that’s left 😏 Yesterday morning, in protest for me throwing them out of my bedroom when I wanted to get a few more hours sleep and they wanted to play and fight, one of them stole my glasses (which I’d left folded up on my desk), and from what I can tell must have been just gnawing on them like a bone! 😧 One of the plastic parts on the arms is blistered with tiny teeth-marks and rough to the touch, and the corresponding lens that arm was folded up against also has some chips. Still wearable (which is good because I don’t have another pair! And my last visit to the opticians was too long ago for any of the order-online glasses sites to let me buy from them, so this is another thing I really need to do soon!) - luckily the chips are towards the edge so my vision isn’t too obscured, and I only notice the discomfort from the messed up arm when I adjust them or take them on or off. It took me a minute for the irritation to pass, before I realised just how lucky I/we were - if they’d managed to chomp harder on the lens enough to break it, they could have been having a medical emergency while I was still asleep in the other room! 😱 I think trying to keep them safe is going to be a lifelong struggle! (Though at least it might get a bit easier when they’re no longer kittens) I’ve noticed how much they like to chew on things (including fingers! Trying to discourage that… it usually starts with them being cute and wanting to groom me while I’m stroking them, and licking turning into mostly gentle nibbles), so I bought a ton of dental/teething toys by Petstages, but I haven’t managed to get them to transfer the chewing onto those yet. They absolutely love playing with little mouse-like toys (or balls), batting them around and carrying them in their mouths, so most of these toys have been a great hit in this regard! I’ve tried keeping one on hand and immediately presenting it to replace whatever other thing is being chewed on when the time arises, but it seems like they really want to chew on harder things with a bit more resistance (like my glasses! Also the edges of plastic storage crates, and the dreaded wires, and really anything at all!) instead of softer chewies. The one Petstages chew toy I didn’t get was the round red circle one, which might actually do the trick! Will also see if I can hunt down some other chew-safe harder objects. I did have to laugh though (😅🫣) - the exact mouse you demonstrate in the beginning as being a cheap low quality toy, with the ears and the feather tail - this was my ginger boy’s special mouse for a week, and he would fight courageously for it and carry it round in his mouth everywhere! I keep a close eye on the status of their toys, and have removed two other cheap mice so far gifted by their breeder that smelled like their mum (one with an unravelling string tail and another that had been punctured and was spilling its catnip contents everywhere, plus both of them had ears fall off that I confiscated before the toy was really dead), and the collection of wands and feathers and things (and the toys not in active rotation) are all safely inside a box that I don’t *think* there’s any way they could get into… but the struggle is definitely real!

Haha I enjoyed reading your comment. Brought me back to the days I just got Teemo and Arya as kittens and them ransacking the house. I learned to be very clean with my home, or else the kittens would get it haha. Learned quite a lot since then! So my cats like to bite a lot, especially Teemo. I have found cat grass to be an attractive alternative for my cats to bite on. Only con is maintaining it since cat grass grows pretty quickly and you will have to replace. Cat grass is made of wheat and oats and they usually grow really tall on the farm. And a pot is too small. Your kittens are adorable!
