As a 90's skater having large pants was part of the "skater" look. Tugging both pant legs up a bit before a trick always felt like it looked cool to me also! Then Jenco made their famous "elephant legs" with 50 inch bottoms and that was the beginning of the end!

As a 90s and early 2000s skater the trends I didn't see coming: #1. The influx of pop and jock brands expanding their habitation ($$$) into skateboarding culture. #2. The mainstream acceptance of something that was considered rebellious and misunderstood.

What pisses me off the most is that Sketchers are trying to market as somewhat of a skate shoe, like NikeSB for instance is one of the best skate shoe brands, but they started off with running shoes (i think) and everyone looked at them with concern when they were getting into skateboarding, but SKETCHERS?! Never, what gave me this idea was a TV ad for sketchers of a kid riding a skateboard. IM TELLING YOU RIGHT NOW IF SKETCHERS MAKES MARKET FOR A SKATE SHOE BRAND, I WILL EVAPORATE INTO SAND

dude, if you wanna concisely covey the complexity of a concept of “a Spot’’, compare it to a commonly comprehended one, like a church (synagogue, mosque etc) tldr: “Sir, what is a spot?” “it’s like a church for skaters, where miracles happen”

What creates the obsession with skateboarding trends? It was easier to be unique pre-Facebook and KZbin because the exposure was limited to magazines and video (skateboarding wasn't mainstream yet)... The unavoidable influence of social media I guess. It's a good reminder to get out and enjoy life and don't miss out on the special moments.

Does anybody know what the name of the following was? Had a skateboard deck except larger like a mini snowboard and 2 rolls of skate wheels bowed in the middle so that both rows of wheels looked like half of the geometric shape called an Ellipse !? PLLLEEASSE I have been looking for one for years ! Used to be in most skate shops and I'm certain I could find one if I knew what it was called ! However, despite my description being very accurate it isn't the kind of description that lends itself to a Google search. The experience of riding one was akin to snowboarding or surfing except on the street.

Freestyle isn't a trend, it never was. It's always been part of skateboarding, it's the origins of skating. Although it died off for a majority starting in the early 1990s, few who Freestyled like myself during the 1980s into the early 1990s, we still Freestyled ocassionally after it went under ground. It started making a slow comeback in the early 2000s, getting a strong following in the mid 2010s.
