I love how excited Michael Johnson is seeing Bolt run. He saw his position as the G.O.A.T. being ecliped and couldn't be happier. As for Bolt, a large portion of both speed and acceleration is how hard your feet hit the ground. Bolt's insane fast twitch muscle and incredible strength meant when his feet hit the ground, he was accelerating more per stride. This counter balances the fewer strides taken.

Bolt had so much power. His longer strides at the start acted similar to a coil unspringing. There's more to unspring, and it'll do so with more force. In car terms, his horsepower was out of this world compared to his peers. Was it more difficult for him to execute because each individual step had a much greater impact on his overall race? Absolutely. But that goes to show that he wasn't just supremely gifted, but his skill, technique, and hard work went into perfecting those strides.
@MrMicronanoАй бұрын
Would be interesting to know that the lower stride frequency combined with the higher top end speed plus time off the ground and his large size means the force he is applying to the ground to propel himself is the key metric that this video doesn’t even mention. Do the studies estimate this force?

We have to wait until another statistical freak of nature similar to Bolt is born. There is certainly no up-and-coming runner today who look even remotely capable of running 9.58s. There isn't even anyone around who can run a low 9.7x. BTW, interesting table at 6:46. It confirms what I already thought to be true - that even if Bolt didn't slow down at the end in Beijing, he wouldn't have run faster than in Berlin. He should have run the last 10m in about 0.83s, which would make his Beijing time the same as his London time of 9.62s.
