Your demo reel video is one of the best video essays I’ve ever seen all over KZbin. Don’t think I’ve ever seen any video more detailed and more interesting about something so crazy and ridiculous as Doug Walker and his failed Be Kind Rewind knockoff. It actually gave me motivation to finish the biggest video I’ve done on my fledgling channel, which is a deep dive into the Snyder Cut followed by a review of the actual movie. It became my biggest accomplishment and I couldn’t have done it without your inspiration. So thank you.

As far as bagels go: they’re pretty soft all around, even after toasting, but the quality varies wildly from place to place. so if you want to get into bagles just keep that in mind (also cream cheese, cream cheese is important)

I just got into Berserk last month (started with the 97 anime, amazing) and I would love some more details and context about getting more into it. I've never read manga before, and it seems daunting to jump into.

Since Pop Quiz Hotshot was brought up, what's curious to me now that I think of it is how it's on the opposite end of the spectrum from Demo Reel. Demo Reel is a "passion project" with Doug at his most (apparently) earnest and that makes its failure spectacular to analyze. Whereas PQH is Doug and crew at their most cynical, basically a project nobody wanted to do and an apparent lack of effort makes its failure of a different kind. I don't know what sort of middle The Wall sits firmly at, but it's somewhere between trying to seem passionate while also unnecessarily cynical. All three are fascinating for their own reasons.

hi the bagel question was mine! glad it made it in lol. it was a getting to know you question in my middle school drama club- at the time i couldn't eat bagels (for medical reasons yada yada protein related stuff) so i also had to tell people i'd never had one! bagel top is definitely the more popular answer in my experience (since for flavored bagels that's where the best bits are) but if you like softer things you might prefer the bottom... or the extremely cursed St. Louis Bread Co bread sliced bagel

Wow. Less than five minutes in and already vigorously nodding in agreement with an assessment on "The Familiar" of all things. I and unfortunately most everyone I know who took a go at The Familiar felt about the same way. Frankly, been wondering if I'm due for a reassessment of H.o.L/O.R since Danielewski has always been held an *interesting* spot on my mind. Frankly a video on Mark. Z would be pretty fresh and hell has good "algorithm" metrics. Would certainly watch. Either way good stuff!

I've only been to the movies in Canada once, to see Collette in Ville de Québec, and I was shocked there wasn't assigned seating. That's been standard in Norway for the last thirty years at least! Of course, pissy shitties are now taking up all my thoughts, but how do groups go together if they can't buy tickets together??? I've been in France and England, too, and there was also assigned seating there, so I just thought that was normal 🤔

Regarding bagels, I think you'll be disappointed with most. A lot of store-bought bagels are very hard and, when microwaved and put into a toaster, they tend to become chewy messes and aren't soft. Best bet for a soft bagel would be genuine New York City or Turkish bagels. My fav tho are multigrain bagels, sometimes labeled "ancient grains" bagels, cut them in half and put creamed honey and jam between them, or make a classic turkey sandwich.

You can 100% prove a movie is bad objectively, from a script writing point of view. The Last Jedi is objectively bad. Mauler's critique has an iron clad argument for this specifically and script writing overall. The definition can't argue against that, because feelings don't come into account when you're analyzing errors in a script. It's just using logic, consistency, context, rules of the movie world, citations to prove each point you make, etc. I'm wondering how the definition contradicts this "take". A movie could be objectively written bad. You can still like that movie. This is a bummer, I was looking forward to any long form media essays you may do. If you could elaborate I'm honestly interested to hear why you believe this. Then at least I'll be able to show you the argument when I see exactly what your thought process is on this.

Do you all see what your responses have in common. They are way off target. It has nothing to do with liking a movie or not. Nothing to do with learning to love a movie or not, and nothing to do with how it "sounds". Also I haven't actually heard an actual argument, just knee jerk responses without explaining your position. I'll give a slightly extreme example quickly, if I write a movie in a world where through the world building it is explained that the zombies can only be killed if you burn them, no matter what, then through the movie most zombie kills you see are by stabbing them in the stomach... That's bad writing. Anyone who writes scripts will tell you that. That makes the movies SCRIPT objectively bad. There's no emotion or feelings about that point. Now, that movie may be awesome to watch though and have some fun parts, and we can all enjoy it. The whole point of objective script analysis is to learn and grow as a writer. Repair your script when the flaws are found, don't just put the movie out to make money. Anything I say or bring up is in a friendly manner of debate. So please no name calling and please explain anything you believe counters this. I would suggest the intro video of "a critique on TFA", the whole series if you could...that's the true test to your position and if you come out the other side feeling the same way. The thing is people think they're being objective when there are clearly feelings informing their response.
