I knew him from my earliest childhood. He and Gwen were friends of my parents. What a beautiful telling of the wonderful love of Jesús. As a child of about 4 years of age, I watched him carrying his frail, dying wife from their house to the car, and then over the next few years, listened to him in conversations, talking of the love of God. His life and words were a big influence on me at that young age.

What a treasure that was neglected and, now, lost since the passing of Des. He always had such a passion for the Gospel and for sharing the amazing love of God; and he was always able to express it in a way that even my simple brain could understand. "You don't have to be good to be saved. You come just as you are, and you're accepted just as you are, but you're not left as you are!"

True gospel? Ford never gave up being a Judaizer and never denounced liar and thief Ellen White. He joined a demonic cult at a young age and spent his life hoping the cult would change. He named his daughter Ellen. He was a biblical fool.

I met Des on several occasions. He opened my eyes to know that we are perfect in Christ, there is no condemnation while you are in Christ and denominations will not save you. Only the blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin.

You said, “Only the blood of Christ cleanses us from all sin.” Notice you said “all” sin (And so does the Bible in 1 John 1:7), but Des Ford just got through saying, “Sin remains, but does not reign.” Does the blood of Christ not do a good enough job to completely cleanse? He does not rightly understand what Paul is saying in Romans 7. In a nutshell, Romans 7 is speaking about the law and in Romans 7:14-25 Paul is using his past experience to show what it is like trying to keep the law without the lawgiver. Thus, it goes on to say, “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” So, with the mind you can think to keep the law but the flesh (sinful fallen nature) will not have it that way. Romans 8 goes on to keep speaking to what is going on in Romans 7:14-25. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” -- Rom 8:1-4. In light of the righteousness of the law being fulfilled in us, spoken of here, Des Ford also said that “Justification does not mean to made righteous.” Romans 5:18,19 says, in reference to justification, “Made righteous.” It says, “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Even if you go by Des Ford’s statement that justification means to declare righteous, does not what God declares “make” it so? Also, consider Romans 6:18&22. “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness…. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” Everlasting life -- everlasting gospel. Des Ford makes some good points about the gospel, but it does not rightly represent the fulness of the gospel. This is why the wrong understanding of sin and the nature of Christ can lead to a gospel that does not allow for the power of God to really provide victory over sin. It seems that such a partial gospel leaves people a way of escape to still indulge in their sins and defend it with a strawman that proclaims any other way is salvation by our own works. But it is all about the power of God and what He can do. Paul says in Rom 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.” This includes the good news of justification, sanctification, and glorification. I was thinking of making a separate comment, but took the opportunity to use your comment as a springboard. Thank you.

I personally prayed while dead in my sin at 18 years old and had prayers answered as if I were as righteous as Christ. I thought i must be very special to God. However it did not turn me away from sin. About 3 years later at age 21 my sin caused me great anguish again. i already knew God would answer my prayer but would I continue on in sin as before. I feared I could not help myself. I modified my prayer this time by asking for an answer only if God could turn me around. At my conversion I thought I would never sin again, but soon a realization that sin remained part of my makeup had me confused. I knew I had come to know God through His Spirit this time but my old nature remained hindering my desire to be sinless. It took about a year before I came in contact with the true gospel that enabled me to understand how God works by giving us the Spirit based upon Christ' obedience rather than our own, and how retaining a sinful nature that troubles us causes us to depend more on Christ's righteousness than self righteousness. The statement the nearer we come to Jesus the more faulty we appear to ourselves makes good sense because we learn to hate sin more and more and find relief in God's plan to end sin in the earth made new by conditioning us prior to the end of this age. It also humbles us to work with sinners whom we share common ground with knowing trust in Christ is all it takes and if we present him instead of a form of moralism they to will experience life through His Spirit just as we do..

It it is interesting to me to see pretty much every former SDA expounding upon how now that they have left Adventism they understand the true gospel. Funny thing is, when they expound upon what they're saying the true gospel is, they are teaching a gospel that is not in any way inconsistent with the SDA church's position on the gospel. It's like I'm in the twilight zone when I listen to these people.
@jamesandres6312 Жыл бұрын
Ellen White has described the SDA "gospel" very well. It is, for all practical purposes, the exact opposite of "true gospel." "Moral perfection is required of all. Never should we lower the standard of righteousness in order to accommodate inherited or cultivated tendencies to wrong-doing. We need to understand that imperfection of character is sin. All righteous attributes dwell in God as a perfect, harmonious whole, and every one who receives Christ as a personal Saviour is privileged to possess these attributes." (Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 330) "(Christ) came to this world and lived a sinless life, that in His power His people might also live lives of sinlessness." (Review and Herald, April 1, 1902) "There is no safety nor repose nor justification in transgression of the law. Man cannot hope to stand innocent before God, and at peace with Him through the merits of Christ, while he continues in sin. He must cease to transgress and become loyal and true." (1 Selected Messages, p. 213) "Exact obedience is required, and those who say that it is not possible to live a perfect life throw upon God the imputation of injustice and untruth." (Review and Herald, February 7, 1957) "Happiness is the result of holiness and conformity to the will of God. Those who would be saints in heaven must first be saints upon the earth; for when we leave this earth, we shall take our character with us, and this will be simply taking with us some of the elements of heaven imparted to us through the righteousness of Christ. (3 Selected Messages, pp. 190-192)

@@jamesandres6312 I have no use for EGW's writings. But I will point out the they do not constitute the SDA church's gospel. For that, look at the fundamental belief statement about the gospel. It is pure Arminianism. It is strange to me that ALL former SDAs teach the exact same gospel as the SDA church, while claiming to teach a different and supposedly true gospel. Strange.
@jamesandres6312 Жыл бұрын
@@CarnivoreKen Sorry Kenneth. It's Roman Catholicism by a different name. Both teach that salvation requires a cooperative relationship between God and man with the goal -- and, according to orthodox SDAs, necessity -- of achieving sanctification in this life. Needless to say, this is the exact opposite of a multitude of doctrinal passages of scripture. (See, e.g., John 3:16, Romans 3:28, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:14)
@CarnivoreKen Жыл бұрын
@@jamesandres6312 By sanctification I take it you mean Christian perfection; big difference, as ALL Christians teach that sanctification is necessary, since the Bible teaches that quite clearly. There is no official SDA doctrine requiring Christian perfection in this life. Here is the official SDA gospel as stated in their fundamental beliefs: Belief 10: The Experience of Salvation In infinite love and mercy God made Christ, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, so that in Him we might be made the righteousness of God. Led by the Holy Spirit we sense our need, acknowledge our sinfulness, repent of our transgressions, and exercise faith in Jesus as Saviour and Lord, Substitute and Example. This saving faith comes through the divine power of the Word and is the gift of God’s grace. Through Christ we are justified, adopted as God’s sons and daughters, and delivered from the lordship of sin. Through the Spirit we are born again and sanctified; the Spirit renews our minds, writes God’s law of love in our hearts, and we are given the power to live a holy life. Abiding in Him we become partakers of the divine nature and have the assurance of salvation now and in the judgment. (Gen. 3:15; Isa. 45:22; Isa. 53; Jer. 31:31-34; Ezek. 33:11; 36:25-27; Hab. 2:4; Mark 9:23, 24; John 3:3-8, 16; 16:8; Rom. 3:21-26; 8:1-4, 14-17; 5:6-10; 10:17; 12:2; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; Gal. 1:4; 3:13, 14, 26; 4:4-7; Eph. 2:4-10; Col. 1:13, 14; Titus 3:3-7; Heb. 8:7-12; 1 Peter 1:23; 2:21, 22; 2 Peter 1:3, 4; Rev. 13:8.) That is perfectly orthodox Arminianism, and it is not a bit different from what ANY former SDA teaches. You yourself no doubt teach that "salvation requires a cooperative relationship between God and man," as you no doubt teach that God cannot/does not save man without man doing something to merit that salvation. This of course is blasphemous heresy. But you teach it happily, just like deluded Desmond Ford did, pretending to be teaching a "true gospel," and pretending that yours is different from that of the SDA church when it is NOT, as can be seen by the above official belief statement.

I would like to know the state of the Adventist church in Australia. How influential has Desmond Ford been? How's Avondale University doing? Have you heard of Dr. TIMOTHY JENNINGS. He has some interesting ideas. When I listen to various pastors or lecturers on righteousness by faith, I begin to get confused as each emphasizes slightly different aspects. Desmond didn't leave the SDA church. Rae didn't leave either. I'm not going to either where ever this journey leads me.

He died still believing that Ellen never demonstrated having a divine from God, but that she still played an important part in the Christian faith. This could be further from the truth, however, regardless of his account to believe the sda church still has truth in it and hiw I disagree with him, at least he found the "everlasting" gospel. Not the 3 angels message and a stupid and foolish sanctuary atonement message. I know for sure he is consciously aware like the rich man and poor man in Luke 16, realizing the actual extent the adventist church is ruining Gods gospel.

SDA like other churches have a mixture of true and erroneous teachings. This is a nuanced matter it is not black or white. And the dead know nothing, they have no thoughts, emotions, nor plans as it says in the old testament.
