Ohhhh and If We Were Villains is an actual masterpiece, especially compared to Graveyard Shift. I highly recommend the audiobook given it's Shakespeare and the characters act out scenes from plays and makes the subject matter more accessible if your Shakespeare is a bit rocky like mine was, given I hadn't read or studied it in well over a decade.

For Isabel Allende, her most loved book is The House of Spirits, and I think it's her best. I also really enjoyed Eva Luna, but I read it many many years ago so I'm curious what I would think of it now

The house of the spirits and Eva Luna by Isabel Allende are both amazing, but I loved every single book I read by her

So I know you didn't love Emily Wilde's first book, I think I landed on the same rating for the first one. The second one, however, blew me away. I think it is worth giving another chance for the second instalment, and the third and final book is out soon as well. Also, yes about the Magnolia Parks universe being an amazing series with characters that feel real. I binged all five books in a really short amount of time and each book just gets better and better.

For Isabel Allende, you should obviously try The House of Spirits, but I also really enjoyed A Long Petal of the Sea and In the Midst of Winter

Violeta by Allende is my favourite from what I've read from her. The House of the Spirits is obviously her most well known, which I also enjoyed (but not as much), but if you are intimidated by One Hundred Years of Solitude by Marquez then you'd likely be intimidated by The House of the Spirits. I think Violeta or one of her other shorter works would be a good place to go next!

I was the opposite with the familiar! Enjoyed the worldbuilding / politics / magic, was so bored by the romance. But the ending ruined it for me anyway! Death in her hands I also loved but Lapvona will always be my fave Moshfeg (so far!!)

I too was rooting for Orbital and think it deserved the win. There were other books I loved on the list , but this was the only one that gave me major Global Citizen vibes 📖🪱💚
