Great video and love your alternate choices. A tad surprised that Old Forester 1920 did not make either list. Great barrel proof, flavours galore, long finish, easy to find, and great value at $60. Will always be on my shelf.

McKenna 10 is 45 USD here, and good bottles are good, but .. no guarantee. Russell's 10, Rare Breed, 1910, or Widow Jane 10 are all fantastic. ✔️ That KC 12 is delicious. WW is da bomb! For local producers, Blonde, an 8-yr whiskey made wirh red wheat and white corn. Think Werther original with alcohol. 🙂 Pipe dream is great, but the CS Lost Monarch... ♥️. I keep editing it!!!! That Cooper's? ♥️♥️.

As someone who is relatively new to bourbon as far as being an enthusiast, I gotta say your list is rock solid. I mean, I've drank my fair share of bourbon over the last 25 years, but I've always just bought cheaper whiskey, like a Jim Beam white label, or Evan Williams, Makers Mark, etc. I've never really paid much attention to the actual taste because I always mixed with 7 Up or Sprite. Over the last 2 months I've started to try other, more premium or higher quality brands and I've actually tried just about all of the bourbons on the list and they're all excellent choices. One kind I've tried that I feel has a very complex flavor is Angel's Envy. It's a little more expensive than most on your list, about $55, but I feel it's a very solid, tasty, and smooth to drink bourbon. It was recommended to me by a bartender buddy of mine and its one of my favorites so far. I know that's subject to change as I reach out and try new bourbons.

Speaking as a Tennessee resident I couldn't agree more with your TN picks. Everything ftom Chattanooga Whiskey is fabulous and amazingly affordable. I've had a few Heavens Door cask strength store oicks that are great as well. Actually Tennessee whiskey is bourbon, just filtered through maple charcoal. Regardless of what the ridiculous law in this state claims.

Cheers, Ted. We almost never mention Tennessee whiskey and bourbon in the same sentence for fear of angry keyboard warriors jumping down our throats. These days we just stay out of it and enjoy all the whiskey, whatever it's called.

Certainly, no disrespect intended to McKenna 10. We think it's something everybody should try. But given how hard it is to fine and the way it usually gets marked up, we figured we'd suggest an alternative that's easier to find and also definitely worth a try. Cheers!

Hey you two! I was dying at how you were more wound up about the categories themselves than the selections for the categories. I certainly agree w/ your perplexedness (is that a word?) I'm still crawling my way up the proof ladder, but I'm guessing that when I arrive at the barrel strength plateau, I'll be sipping Elijah Craig right alongside you considering how much I enjoyed my first bottle of their Small Batch. Bottoms Up!

I may have had a base 4 year high rye Wilderness Trail, but for me it is all about the picks. Talk about value..1783 is $13 in OKC (BiB is $11). Yaz to Rare Breed…and the KC12 (though I am not a fan of the KC9). I’ve been meaning to get another 4 Roses SB…my last one was early in my journey, and I’ve become a high-rye guy of late. The $55-80 range has so many things to offer….which leads to ECBP (I have no problem getting up to $95 for Remus Repeal Reserve). Agree on Maker’s assorted stave-y bottles, but as said, I am all about the Wilderness Trail yellow label picks. I’m more about the Lost Monarch…sounds like the Cask Strength version is disappointing though. And who can argue with that malty Chattanooga 111?

We've always both enjoyed whiskey, but we really didn't expand our collection beyond a bottle or two until a few years ago. Phil was the main driver of the hobby for us, but we're both enthusiastic about whiskey these days. So Henry McKenna 10yr is definitely not the best overall to me, I do like the Wilderness Trail 8yr Bourbon! Makers is a decent value bottle, haven't tried the 1783 before myself. Never had Widow Jane, but my everyday sipper is Russell's 10 year. Knob 12 is good and has become more available in my area. For cocktails (Old Fashions) Knob 9 & Woodford are my favorite. Best bottle under $50 is Russell's 10yr. Best under $100 to me would be a good store pick! I like the Old Forester BP more than Elijah Craig. Been wanting to try Frey Ranch. If you want a good Redwood Empire the Grizzly Beast is their best.

I'm not a big fan of the regular Maker's Mark and the first thing I thought of as a replacement was also Evan Williams 1783 and I was on the same page with Rare Breed as well. I like Evan Williams BiB for cocktails and Russell's Reserve is fantastic, in my opinion. I am also a big fan of Baker's 7. The last one I got was 8 years and 2 months old and it is delicious. I can't argue with the ECBP. This was actually a decent list compared to some I have seen, but I think your picks were better. So much to agree with here, I really enjoy your insights. I agree about Maker's 46. MM is great but is a wild one with a bottle of bottle variability. I've had bad ones. But 46 for ten bucks more? I only had it once and I knew it was maker's I just thought it was an outstanding batch. It's great. I had a bottle of Noah's mills a long time ago, nobody ever heard of it. Ten or eleven years ago. It was alright, I feel like someone was trying to make a "Fresh List" though. I remember what it tasted like but I wouldn't ever have called it memorable. I didn't pay a lot at the time, but I wouldn't pay it again.

I purchased a bottle of Heaven’s Door cask strength Single Barrel Select.. 125.1 proof. I am only 2 years into bourbon….but eIther have to swirl and rest 10 minutes in the glass, or pour over a small ice cube. Am I a wimp? Nice video, BTW.

I agree, how do they put HM10 as best overall, it’s a single barrel! Haha!! Haven’t had 1783, but have heard good things. I just think of all the bottles in bond offerings out there for 25 or less and of course my standby WT101, that are a better “value buy”. I kind of get the Widow Jane 10 as sipping for me it has a ton of flavor for a 91 proof bourbon. You can sip it and actually think about it more so than most 91 proof bourbons. Rare Breed is a better option. KC12 is very good. To me better than HM10. I feel like Michters might get lost in cocktails because of its proof. I want at least 100 proof in my cocktail mixer as well, again WT101 either bourbon or rye is a great cocktail mixer. Noah’s mill, hmm heard good things, but Willett can be so polarizing. Bakers 7 is the one people should go with if they want to excellent quintessential bourbon. ECBP is an easy decision. So good. I’m actually finding I’m not a wheater fan as well. I like WW, at 88 proof it is easy drinking, big fan of their other offerings, esp the Outryder. Makers 46 is probably the one wheater I have found that I actually enjoy. Wait Kentucky bourbon is good?! 😆 Is Heavens Door Dickel? Sorry for the long post. Just couldn’t stop my fingers when you both were talking! 🤪

Haha, it's a long video! Long comments are very welcome. We've had Heaven's Door that was Dickel, MGP, and BR Distilling. Our favorite bottles have all been BR Distilling, which is still Tennessee, so we suppose that counts.

Chattanooga whiskey is tasty, but that Scotch finish bottle was drain worthy (I haven’t dumped it…it’s sitting on my shelf). Love your videos and cheers 🥃

Michters “Unblended American Whiskey “ has such a flavor palette I am shocked. It goes through like 4-5 stages of taste.

Nice list. Need to get on Frey and Wild Trl. Nothing but positives out there. Liquor including Maker's flag and EW SiB (discontinued outside the dist) shows they're a bit out of touch/lazy. 😴
