Love it when a bottle that I have is being reviewed. I love the Green River Full Proof, one of my favorite bottles, already have a backup. I know you guys hit Binny's, ever hit Woodmans Grocery? 3 to 10 dollars less on a lot of great bottles. 3 above in Chicago right now.

I’m really enjoying the tournament! I notice both of you are “going the way of whiskey tasters” by preferring the higher proof offerings. That’s where I went, too, once I started tasting bourbon (originally was single malts only). However, the majority of whiskey drinkers, likely a big majority, drink sub-100 proof whiskey. For example, in the bourbon (and bourbon-adjacent…😅) market, Jack Daniels Old No. 7 at 80 proof has about 20% of the market. Regular Jim Beam is second, also at 80 proof. Until recently most all of the Scotch single malt whisky ran in the 80-90 proof range (Johnny Walker Red is 80 proof). Here’s a tasting challenge for you (should you decide to accept it!) when you return to “regular” tasting. When encountering a high proof whiskey, conduct a three-part dilution experiment; it’s a favorite of mine when tasting with friends. Nose and taste the first 1/3 of a pour-neat. Then add a few drops of good water and repeat. After analyzing that 1/3, dilute again and sit with that awhile. My favorite high proofers survive and evolve with dilution. They morph as new smells and tastes emerge. The best seem to provide three unique experiences! It’s really quite engaging…and only the high proof whiskeys work for this experiment. FWIW! 😊 🎅

To me good bottle but not a great bottle and more hype than delivery. Versus a more questionable niche bottle that isn't for everyone. Glad you loved them both, but personally a lower opinion of them. Regardless... #TeamMavis

Well my phill bracket was perfect until today🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh no! I had Barrell moving forward for both of you, and Phil taking it all the way. I sipped the Barrell 035 along with you and got barbequed meat on the nose ( one of my favorite notes!) I didn’t get any fruit or funk, or anything else either of you got. Just have to chalk it up to different palates. Still enjoying the AdVANt Tournament!

I generally like Barrell and have 035, but like others I seldom return to it. I hadn't even considered that it might be TOO well blended to be compelling!

I got this one right (rare!l). I've tried whiskey from both Smoke Wagon and Barrel (not these two, though). Smoke Wagon hits my inexperienced palate better, but I enjoy both.

It appears that Julie’s got that funk… OOWW, we need the funk! Gotta have that funk! (I couldn’t resist. Neither could George Clinton!) 😊 🇺🇸 Love how you two go back and forth! You demonstrate how fun and interesting it can be to taste whiskey with someone. Sometimes it’s nice to just relax, sit, alone, a la Nick Offerman’s Lagavulin “Yule Log” video 😊 and enjoy. But here you show how whiskey can also be a great way to interact with people in a positive, enjoyable way. Merry Christmas!

I probably have 15 bottles of various Barrell releases. I almost always love them on first sip then quickly forget about them as they just don't have enough unique characters to call me back to them. I get the muddled flavors you were talking about... Barrell solid but forgettable IMO. Cheers 🍻

Chattanooga is a very interesting distillery making quality whiskey. I have the occasion to travel through Chattanooga every year and always visit the distillery to taste their latest. Touring their downtown basement rickhouse is also interesting. Local restaurants all carry their offerings, so just get around town and you’ll get a good taste of Chattanooga!
