Great video, only thing I can say is I hope that gear oil is rated for the nv4500 since it has special synchros. I believe only 3 oil manufacturers make it, and thats Amsoil and Mopar and GM. To save the hassle of next time, just fill it through the shifting column and once at the fill line, add an extra half to whole bottle to make it shift easier the the trans will quite down too.

Thanks for the video. I have a 92 1st gen with a NV4500 that need to be replaced. I guess I will try this by myself :( I saw one video that said to remove the transmission from the bellhousing, then remove the bell housing and also reinstall them separate but they had the truck on a lift. Any reason you didn't remove them separately? Thanks.

Breaking it loose from the bell housing is just an extra step. It will come off and go back on with the bell housing attached. It's just heavy, as long as you have jacks, minor adjustments get it lined up.

thanks for posting, couple of questions, notice a lot of endplay in the tran before removal, did you take off motor mounts? ive also seen videos where the frame rails have to be pried apart to free the transmission support...
@ELDESTBuilds2 жыл бұрын
This truck had new motor and "rebuilt" transmission installed about a year prior. Did not touch the motor mounts, bit there's a lot off swinging and swearing to get it off and on. Didn't have to pry the frame rails but did use a BFH to get the cross member off and lined back up again.

Question, when mounting the clutch and pressure plate, using the alignment tool, was it any tension or snug feeling when moving the alignment tool back and forth, or was it able to jiggle easily in and out? Also, was it a struggle with the bellhousing bolts to drive them into the adapter plate. Just wanting to make sure I'm doing it right, or if I need to disassemble and try again.
@ELDESTBuilds2 жыл бұрын
Clutch tool jiggles in all the way to align clutch plate. You have to get it into the bearing in the back of the crankshaft. It may be pretty snug after you tighten up the pressure plate. Bellhousing bolts, after you get the splines lined up and shove the pig into place, kinda have to use the jack to get the right angle to get them started. The lower ones may be easier. Snug them up and then do the top ones. That trans wants to hang down at an angle before you get the bolts in
