These are all great points! I see Windows support as being somewhat niche, even though this laptop is incredibly special being the last MacBook to really support Windows. I also am surprised at how much better my M1 MacBook felt faster, even under relative load, and don’t personally see the relevance of the greater RAM amount. I’m humble enough to realize that this is because my workflow isn’t one that takes advantage of all the RAM. Simply put, these things didn’t come up because they’re not in line with my comparative experience with the MacBook 16” and the M1 MacBook to which I compared it to:)

Wow that bad 😮. Me? Yes I do have one, the MacBook Pro with the last Intel chip before their first M1 chip. My MacBook Pro has all the bells and whistles literally!!! I9, 32 gigs of RAM and 2 TB of memory.this computer is a beast of a computer 😮. Straight up put two operating systems on it. Bootcamp is on it automatically. And I had 1 TB for windows 11 and iOS apples stuff. And it was easy to install and use.. Now you wonder why 1 TB for Windows operating system? For gaming of course 😊. And the we can handle it well, other than the Fans running a lot to keep things cooled down. So you do hear them at work when putting the MacBook Pro through its paces. Other than that she Rocks out….🎉🎉. Yeah she is a bit heavier from the last MacBook Pro they put out. So as long as you could have it cleaned out by airing out the computer and new thermal paste this Machine will last longer in the end. I know because I still have mine! Yeah it’s worth it if you could buy one in good condition with a good price….

Last month I bought an i9 version 32Gig/4TB 16" system preloaded with Sequoia and only 3 cycles on the battery. Pretty dang impressive performance! It was about $1100. Original packaging etc etc. Could I have gone with a silicon version? Sure, but I prefer the maxxed out Intel i9 vs a base model silicon for same price. Added, there are some things that this older MBP can do that the M1 won't regarding peripherals that I need.

1:42 the lag is due to the poor intel gpu, auto graphics switch turns off the amd one to save battery when there’s no intensive app asking for it, you can turn that off in settings and always use the amd one, it’ll feel a lot smoother and instantaneous but you’ll have poor battery life

Lags are often caused by using an integrated Intel GPU, which is ... very old and really slow. These macs perform much better if automated graphics switching is turned off, although this have drawbacks like more heat and less battery life.

I just bought a MacBook Pro 2019 A2141 from Amazon in excellent condition for $550. The biggest reason for me is the native support for Windows, I had to have Windows 10. But No Windows laptop around $550 can come close to the hardware spec of this MacBook, especially the gorgeous 16 inch 4k screen.

@@zircoben I love it so far, Windows 10 runs great on it, though the trackpad in Bootcamp leaves a lot to be desired. I use Windows 65% of the time and Mac OS (currently Sequoia 15.1) 35% of the time. And yes the speakers, display, and chassis and hardware spec is well worth the $550.

im actually on one rn, i got it refurbrished for 500 dollars, it is excellent condition, 100 batery health, i got the 2019 to install windows 10 because it can run fortnite at around 250fps and even cyberpunk edgerunners at 30fps, and thats alot for a work laptop, i play forza horizon 5 alot at around 70fps solid with max reflections and detail. its a great cheap solution for a pc and schol laptop in one, my setup is a 240hz monitor and my macbook sits under my desk on a laptop cooling fan stand, i have wireless keyboard and mouse so it really feels like a pc when im at home, and for school i boot into macos for school stuff and its great. i definetly recomend it.

Those have some advantages though. First one is bootcamp if someone uses Windows only apps(especially if ordered with large amount of storage is great option).Second is the 16" display size compared to 15" M3 for example.Third one is that it has dedicated graphics card compared to ones with shared ram due to System - on - chip architecture for ARM cpu(If you take M1 with 8Gigs of ram and see the ram usage only by the OS then you realise that 16Gigs is the bare minimum) but go to 16 of memory and 512 of storage and the price gets steep very quickly. Actually it is expected for M4 to be 16Gigs of ram for the base model.And yes the 16Inch macbook pro is now like 4.5 years old which means that if you buy one it needs change of the thermal paste(quite a hassle on this model) and also need the VRM mod but then the performance can be improved a lot. Which leads to conclusion that for this price you can get a decent machine.Cheers.

Hi. I just picked one i7 base model config, coming from a mid 2012 15" retina. I was considering it or an Air M1. The M1 is faster, for sure. BUT this one has a 16" screen, more ports and a sound that's amazing. Microphones are excellent too. The camera is that old so-so, but works. Also, this one has 16/512 while most used base M1 Airs have 8/256. It really shows some lags here and there but coming from a 2012, this is very fast... Being the i7, it heats less than the i9. Installed Sequoia, it's running fine. Well, for what I do - social media cards, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and some FCP Pro here and there, it's all fine, a nice machine that'll last for some years, I believe. I am happy with it. Regarding the keyboard, the 2012 is still the best. This one feels a bit "plastic", but much superior to the butterfly. Thanks for the video.

I need a Windows 10 laptop for my work, but I prefer MACOSX for my leisure time. I have been lugging around two laptops on my travels, vacations and work road trips - 1 x 14" M3Pro Macbook Pro, and a work Microsoft Surface 4 for my work. I am about to purchase a good used one of these - heck, for $ 500 you can't get a Windows laptop with anywhere near the same build quality, screen, trackpad...and a pretty good performer too. So, once I have bought one of these, I will only need to carry one laptop on my travels. My M3 laptops can stay at home. I will be able to switch back and forwards between Windows 10 and MACOSX with this one laptop. Perfect

I recomend right now to update to the new Sequoia 15.0.1 it was released 4 days ago, it really made my Macbook Pro 2019 hella fast. Even opening the apps, and the os is much better than Sonoma. I updated to the 15.0 and it was a downgrade, but somehow the 15.0.1 changed the performance, no cap but I felt like it triplicated it. For example, Affinity designer in Sonoma and Sequoia 15.0 opened like in 15 seconds but with the 15.0.1 it opens in 5 seconds, also Lightroom it took 25 secs but now it only takes 7, I dont know what witchcraft it is but i'll not upgrade to newer versions lol, i'll stay with the 15.0.1

It will get the job done, but I would have tried to steer you towards the M1 series if possible.

I think it will handle it just fine. You may wind up a little constrained on the SSD side of life. What I did was purchase a Satechi dual USB-C hub with integrated NVMe slot. You can boost your storage by a LOT and also take some of the read/write strain off the MBP internal SSD that way. NVMe's are generally fast enough to keep up with video demands. Not sure what your particular requirements are, but that's what I use. You may find a different hub w/NVMe slot that better fits your needs. That said - the Satechi I use is a Gen 3 NVMe. If you need faster etc - then pay particular attention to what gen the hub your buying is. So far, my Gen 3 version keeps up with Davinci Resolve with no issue or overheating.

I am still using one I bought new daily and am still very happy with it and am one of those who loves the no-loger-made touchbar. I will probably hang on to it until operating system updates are no longer available for it as realistically it meets all of my current needs. I will also consider a future upgrade if Apple AI turns out to be something truly useful as it matures vs. just being a gimmick. .

Still have it & use it for travel but not my on the plane or at the sofa. I have iPad for that. I keep it for its good old reliable when M1 was too new yet. It’s an Intel Mac & if you work in a multi OS & use Windows. But soon to be left behind on Win10 as it outdated. So if all you need is Mac OS, grab an M anything over M1. The 2019 i7-9980HK, dual GPU intel UHD 630 & Radeon 5600M, 64gb Ram & 2Tb is a workhorse in its day & kept some old M1 on its toes for a few months. Today, I think I can use a more travel portable M4.

Thanks for your review :) Rather than going for Apple silicon (need native win Boot) in 2023, I purchased a refurbed 2019 4TB SSD / 64GB / 8GB AMD Radeon Pro 5500M cost me less that £1700 - cosmetically not perfect but near. Since upgrading to Sonoma it's faster and I don't experience any lag. Totally agree that Silicon macs out perform what was a beast of a m/c in 2019, but to be expected in 4-5 yrs of development. I've found a few ex Apple engineers/companies that repair logic boards etc, so I'll keep it going as long as is viable. Tech companies need to start designing modular computers across their models that are designed for longevity rather that the current life cycle. The throw-away tech culture pushed by manufacturers is reprehensible - but I guess the huge growth in tech repair/e-waste management industries benefit from the short-sightedness of manufacturers. Not sure I will ever buy another Apple MBP unless they become designed for end user repair/upgrades - I mean why do you need to solder ram onto the board?!?

But the2019 i9 64gb can punish base model m1 MacBooks. A 2019 MacBook pro is more than enough for most users and with Windows they can continue updates. After apple discontinues their updates.

I'd say this is a bit pricey for what it is, and I would feel more comfortable recommending you get an M1 MacBook Air, as long as the smaller size is okay with you.

That's a great suggestion! I already sold the machine so I can't do it, but I've heard that M1 improved performance dramatically for these tasks, and will be supported for much longer. As good as the hardware is, the M1 is the better buy!

I don't understand the hate for this model specifically when you praise the much worse 2016 model and the 2015. It's not as good as apple sillicon but surely it's the king of intel macbooks?

It’s because, unlike those older machines, a decent one of these 2019 16” models is the same price as a M1 MacBook, even one configured in 16GB of ram in some cases. The M1 uses a fraction of the power, it’s faster, and the dependability of it is far greater given the prevalent SSD failure of these 16” models. It doesn’t justify its expense.

I have one and I say no. Even tho im able to do all my tasks from video editing, Music production, and create in blender 3d the new m series Macs are cheaper and with apple you want to be closet to latest out or you run the risk of having a system that is not supported anymore thru updates. Im mad I bought a Mac when I did. For a fully speced intel I could buy two maxed out m3 Macs now...

Avoid this piece of crap if you can afford it. It overheats at the slightest thing and the fans r crazy noisy. The logic board already fried on me once. It burns your legs since it gets so hot. I just installed the latest Mac os and it restarts randomly every now and then. You have been warned! 😂

There's a reason why companies switch out their entire fleet of computers after three years, if you're talking about a computer that needs to get heavy workloads done on the daily, you aren't using the 10 year old PC I built for my family.
