"Moist and Mellow," recorded in 1927 by the legendary Jitterbug Jills, is a sultry jazz piece born out of the wild Prohibition-era speakeasies. The tune solidified the Jills, notorious for their racy lyrics and untamed performances, as a staple of the underground jazz scene. 🎺
This particular tune is said to have been inspired by a sweltering summer night on a rum-runner boat off Cape Cod, where, after narrowly escaping the Feds, the girls turned a chaotic evening into a sultry jam session under the stars.🕴🥃
"Moist and Mellow" became one of the Jills' signature songs, its playful yet suggestive lyrics reflecting the group's knack for pushing boundaries.
