I am 60 years old now. I grew up in this era. When I was a child and teenager in the 1970's this is what most of the homes had. It was so elegant and beautiful. Conversation pits and sunken living rooms made the perfect place for entertaining. You would have an elegant dinner party and after dining at the table, everyone would descend down the stairs into the converation pit for dessert and coffee or after dinner drinks. Or you could just have a simple cocktail party. The intimate and close space and the circular shape made it perfect for everyone to connect and face each other to engage in meaningful conversations and a fun time. I miss this so much and I will never understand why something so great was eradicated from homes? If this was so great then..............why isn't it great now? Well, for some of us, this vintage feature (conversation pit) is still something to fondly remember and admire from the great era of the 1970's!!!!

Even though I'm a child of the 80s; I really like the idea of a conversation pit - we've actually set up something similar in our own home - without the sunken area. In Victorian Times wouldn't this just be similar to a Parlor?

I know very well that I would only get a house with one of these to make it into a ball pit
