Huh, interesting. ''About You'' has to be my favorite. I love it when they do 'shoegazy' stuff, It feels like a wall of pretty noise, like a bed of soft sounds for Matthew to sing and just deliver lyrics that leave you feeling sad when reinterpreting them for yourself.
@datdude33272 жыл бұрын
It has the nostalgia of old tracks like Robbers, but embodies their new fleshed out well-produced sound too. Maybe one that medium to long term fans will enjoy more than critics of their work like Fantano is.

While the tracklist fails to hit the highs of past songs like If You're Too Shy or Love It if We Made It, I really appreciate how focused it is and the result is a much more consistent album, with a smaller batch of songs that feel more finished and thought-out. @Stephen i feel like the intro after the drums kick in with the mumblings in the background really sours happiness for me. It feels too drawn out and unnecessary for an intro. If it went straight into the vocals like the dance floor version, it would be my favorite 75 song of all time.

I always see people saying this in reference to Bladee too but like, maybe the artists are just improving? Idk, I always liked Bladee, I even kinda enjoy Red Light but his most recent stuff is CLEARLY his best work, right? It almost seems unfair to the artists to sorta imply that they're making the same music they were 5 years ago and Fantano is just beginning to appreciate the sound. Its a different sound.

So you like The 1975??... Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships" came out in 2018, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. They've been compared to Huey Lewis and the News, but I think Matty has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. On October 14th, they released THIS; "Being Funny in a Foreign Language", their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Looking For Somebody (To Love)". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they SHOULD, because it's NOT just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself... HEY MELON!!!

Like Anthony points out their recent stuff before this had a good amount of unnecessary tracks ranging from forgettable filler all the way to cringey. I would disagree with melon in that this probably is my fourth favorite album from them. Wintering is the only song I think that personally I’d put in my highest tier for the band. It combines the pop rock that Jack is really adept at making. With some of Matt’s best songwriting in a while. I haven’t felt that strongly about their music at least since their 2018 album, and really the first 2. Although Anthony called the song a 90’s song, I actually feel like there’s a Simon and Garfunkel influence on that track heavy. Really liked it / I love you Anthony

I think Gen Z kids will see this as a completely fresh album. But if you are Get X, maybe Millennial, every song on this album borrows heavily from mostly 80's pop. Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Huey Lewis, Loverboy, U2 and so many more. Every song on this album has been fun to try and find the song it reminds me of from the 80's. Obviously, there are some post 00's sounds to the songs but at the core, it's an 80's music inspired album. Pulling sounds from 80's pop seems to be a big thing with Gen Z artists and some young Millennials. Being Funny in a Foreign Language is a FUN album and sounds even better live, as I just caught them Tuesday in Dallas. This band is really good at knowing what works musically, however the music comes together.

The 1975 seems to take a lot of queues from LCD Soundsystem. '75's track, "Sex," kicks off its lyrics almost the exact same way that LCD's "All My Friends" kicked off.

All My Friends is Matty Healy's favourite song so that's why they reference it a lot

Much happier with a normal-length, less experimental album again. It's what they've always been good at and I enjoyed almost all of this album. On a couple songs he does seem to want pity after "being cancelled" which isn't surprising but it's very weird and I don't like it.
