this is a clip from a live video by sghabibi on instagram
matty healy did an anti malaysian government speech at good vibes festival in kuala lumpar. after this he kissed band mate ross macdonald, which is a highly illegal act in the nation. following the speech they played 2 more songs and then their set was then cut short. matty left the stage saying "Alright we gotta go, we just got banned from Kuala Lumpur, I'll see you later.". it’s likely they will be banned from malaysia, which will be the second country they are banned from for gay kissing. the first country they were banned from is united arab emirates, after matty kissed a male fan at a dubai concert in summer 2019.

It's so narcissistic and irresponsible for them to accept an invitation with clear censorship rules attached, proceed to give attitude to a paying audience and spewing some performative activism to an entirely different culture before jetting off without considering how his actions would negatively impact the local organisers and communities. @@yurir.1840 It's the APPROACH. I guarantee you not even the queer community in the country sees him as a hero, he's just another destructive performative activist that has become political fodder for the extreme conservatives. Start looking at it from a macro perspective. It's easy for you to be idealistic when you don't live in a country where gay activity is a punishable offence. He made it all about him, took their money and hopped on the next flight. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain. How is he a hero for that? He gets to run from the repercussions whilst the local organisers and communities are the ones left dealing the authorities and will be subject to scrutiny for the foreseeable future. This was a set back for liberals here, all because the band couldn't adhere to their contractual obligations which they SIGNED. Why agree to perform here if you are so against it? This is like the time he kissed a man in Dubai and ran off without caring he just risked that person jail time. What do you think he actually achieved for the local queer community? Nothing, it was all self serving because he gets to go back to privileged people like you who will praise and award him for his "activism."

to everybopdy complaining, just take into account the fact that everybody who payed to be there definitely knew this was a possibility of happening. Matty and Ross have kissed before on stage, hes kissed multiple guys in general on stage, and given multiple speeches on stuff like this. Even people like alex turner and miles kane have kissed in a place it wasnt allowed on stage and been banned for it, and matty healy has a far worse reputation for stuff like that than Alex or Miles. Every fan who was there would know that, its common knowledge and impossible to be in the fandom without knowing about Matty healys reputation with things like this.

@@theadominator22 Agreed. I don't think they should play. In fact, I don't think this sort of formalizing is ever going to really change anything. Constantly adhering to policies you're supposedly against isn't standing up for what you believe, so I appreciate (though stupidly narrow-sighted) the act was. That said, it was pretty short-sighted to assume such an outspoken band where political confrontation is baked into their work would ever adhere to some guidelines, especially with a history of doing it. Definitely short-sighted on behalf of the organizers.

@@theadominator22 okay, but the fact the whole thing was cancelled is not their fault? its stupid of the festival coordinators to cancel the entire show, but if anything thats a reflection on them and the morals of the country, not the 1975. If you think you can disrespect people just because they have a different opinion than you, you are a complete narcissist. I don't like the Malaysian government and don't agree with alot of their laws. But there is a time and place to have this discourse, and it is not in a festival with inebriated individuals from different backgrounds that just want to hear good music and have a good time with their friends. If you want to be a community that's respected, it has to come both ways. We might not agree with these laws, but they are still laws to the country. When you come into someone's home, you either respect their rules or don't come in. It's called being considerate, and we hope one day they will return the favour and listen to your argument. It's like these guys don't know how to change someone's mind and instead ridicule others for having different views.

@@yurir.1840 with all due respect. I don't think you understand how traditional and religious their views are here in Malaysia. And this is not the right way to do it and putting the LGBTQ community more at risk in Malaysia. Have you spoken to anyone here in that community? Did you hear what they think? Cause all they see is a white saviour complex who doesn't know what they are talking about. Not everywhere is America. You have to realize where people are coming from. Hatred slows down the path to understanding, and understanding is the first step to seeking equality of treatment.

@@yurir.1840 of course people were cheering cause that is something alot of us support, and I do understand we need to protest for change. But realize how terrible the timing and place is..people have been waiting for this festival for years since before covib. And please, I really urge you to look at every Malaysian influencers and artists who support LGBTQ instagram and tell me what you come up with. You haven't even taken the time to see what their opinions are.. the amount of local acts that couldn't use that rare platform to gain recognition, the enormous supply of food from the vendors all going to waste when they already had a tough year, the wasted money of all the people who booked hotels, outfits and travelled from different countries to attend. He spat on stage, was drunk, rude to people in the backstage, rude to the organizers that just wanted to do the right thing for all the people involved in making one of the biggest festivals in Malaysia. Now other artists are cancelling their shows to Malaysia, the government will now use this as ammo against the LGBTQ community and TIGHTEN restrictions and increase prejudice in an already extremely marginalized group in Malaysia. I urge you, before you reply.....please take the time to read up what Malaysia thinks and the people who were truly affected by this stunt. It did not serve anyone else except Matt and his ego and the people overseas that can protest behind their screens without repercussion. Malaysia's music industry and the LGBTQ community here are the ones that are suffering now...and that is the exact opposite of what I think you would want for us too. You have a good heart, but you are slightly misinformed at the moment. I am confident that if you read up, you'll find this situation isn't so black and white. I'm saying this....one more time respectfully.
