It's strange, but I can't find any article that mentions Gus Gerard was involved in the slam dunk contest. Yet, that's clearly Gus at the start of this video. I assume that was a preliminary round in which he was eliminated, leaving Erving, Gervin, Thompson, Kenon and Gilmore.

Hillman won NBA slam dunk next yr in 77'. No surprise, not a great player, but terrific dunker.
