I was 12 years old, when these rolled off the assembly line. To this day, they are still one of my favorite cars ever. Like a late 40's Buick sport back, a 66 Riv, 70 Eldorado, and so on.... back when GM cared about design.

It's a shame the US auto industry, once the envy of the world, has evolved into its current pathetic state.

@@paulparoma; Yes, you're correct 💯. Isn't it an absolute shame? And just think 10 years earlier Detroit was king and aids meant assistance. That's why I've got to agree with my brother when he said "today is a throwaway or disposable society". In automotive manufacturing parlance it's almost as good as saying "The Japanese have won the war". If you think about it the state of the US auto industry is just about equal to the city of Detroit itself. Sad really sad.

@@paulkirkland1535 Sad indeed. But the America we knew 30-40 years ago is no longer. Despite all the persistent and insurmountable socioeconomic problems, there was still glamour on TV and a sense of social order. Today, it's just a madhouse.

Agreed! But having said that, I came across one of Bill's most entertaining videos to date from about 3 years ago; a review of a small BMW electric SUV. The absolute loathing, seething contempt and abject hatred that Bill displayed towards that horrid little "toaster on wheels" was epic and by far the most enjoyable review of an EV I have ever experienced. Apart from Bill's equally humorous Prius and Tesla reviews, I will rarely ever actually sit through an entire review video of any EV.

Where did my youth go? I'm 59, and what scares me is I'm starting to like these luxury land yachts and personal luxury coupes! Let's see, if I was a middle age guy in the 1980s, I'd probably be driving a late 70s Continental Mark V, wearing a fedora, and a fancy cigar in my mouth. I like Eldos also, but the Conti Mark is where it's at for me. Enjoy that vacation, and be safe!

Although people talked about the Craftsmanship of the European Luxury Vehicles or the Quality of the Japanese Luxury Vehicles. Cadillac's to me were always the most Beautiful out all of them. Especially with their Paint Colors. My grandmother still has her '92 Sedan Deville that she bought preowned in '93. But she does have a Northstar Engine and that Car is still running to this Day. Owned an all silver loaded '83 Eldo just like the one in the movie Casino. Gorgeous car. GM nailed it with the styling of the '79-'85s & has stood the test of time very well. The only issue the E-bodies (Eldo, Toro, Riv & Seville) had was the Diesel & the 8-6-4 engine option & were very unreliable. Back then a mechanic on Detroit's east side had quite a good business swapping out those engines for a 350, 425 or 455 gas V8.

Bill beautiful car. I bought a '84 Eldorado about 6 weeks ago. I have to repair a few things, that being the A/C compressor, bumper fillers , drivers power seat , and radio antenna. I should have all completed in the next couple of weeks. I get so many compliments and thumbs up it's unbelievable. Definitely subscribing to your channel.

Stunning Presentation. Most entertained by this video. And yes, I totally agree this was the last of how luxury cars were built. I really miss this body style/design.

Yes. These were the last true classic styled Cadillacs. The only issue is the 4100 engine. Underpowered and issues with head gaskets. However if you maintain them usually you can get life out of them. I own a 1984 Coupe DeVille. Been in the family since new. Rides awesome and last year of the full size rear drive body.

I love this generation of Eldorado. I was trying desperately to scrape together enough cash to buy a cherry red on red Biarritz for my first car but is sold before I could get the cash.

"Hook & Tow 4100" Worse motor to ever come out of Detroit. I owned a 83 Fleetwood back around 86-87. I would break down once a week w/that junk HT 4.1 Went to Lincoln and never looked back at Cadillac.

That is precisely what happened to me. I still have my 02 Lincoln LS that is running perfectly. Of course, I keep my 1976 Eldorado convertible "battle ship" which I consider the last true Cadillac.

I owned an 81 with a V6. Great car, but severely underpowered. I did not want the 8-6-4 or the diesel. The scene with DeNiro in Casino is absolutely true. Look up Lefty Rosenthal. On October 4, 1982, Rosenthal survived an assassination attempt in Las Vegas, in which a bomb attached to the gasoline tank was detonated when he started his car.[7] While Rosenthal had dined at the Tony Roma's restaurant at 620 E. Sahara Avenue, a person or persons unknown placed the bomb in his car. Rosenthal likely survived because of a manufacturing device unique to his particular model car (a 1981 Cadillac Eldorado): a stout metal plate under the driver's seat, installed by General Motors on all El Dorado models to correct a balancing problem. This plate shielded Rosenthal's body from most of the explosion's force.

In 2016 I bought a 1983 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz at Copart in San Jose for $225. It was a one-owner in medium blue with 64,000 miles. When I moved from Orange County to the high desert, the "engine hot (?)" light finally came on, so I cooled off the 4100 V8 and carefully drove it to the new home and parked it in the garage. I gave it to a local transporter who brought my 1984 Buick LeSabre Custom coupe from Copart in Iowa. Last I heard, a friend of his drove it to Texas and abandoned it. It was a beautiful car and after I "traded" it I bought a 1985 Toronado from the same Copart for $675. It is still in mint condition. Those prices are not attainable now, but they were common a few years before the pandemic.

Bill, with you 100 percent. Im 54 and miss cars like this with REAL luxury, not what passes for luxury today. Roomy, comfy seats, great ride, serenity, etc. Most of todays cars are junk compared to this El Dorado

The perfect description for the right seat occupant.. "A puffy blonde, with all the right curves". I love it. And the first time ( that I recall ), where you say it'll be a short vid, and it's UNDER 30 minutes!! Enjoy the time off, and appreciate all the videos!

The Eldos and Sevilles were awesome cars. It’s a shame they were stuck with the louse 4.1 engine. I had a beautiful 84 Seville and loved it so much. Got rid of it when it started leaking coolant.

It is hard for me to believe also, that this lovely Eldorado is 41 years old. They no longer build Cadillacs as far as I am concerned. These current SUV and sub-compact contraptions they dare to put a Cadillac nameplate on are just blasphemy to me. I will never buy a Cadillac newer than a 1984 model ever again. Through my life I have owned 6 Cadillacs, all giving me much pleasure. I owned this 1983 year model Eldorado in the mid-80's through 1995, when it was unfortunately stolen and never found. I loved this car. It took me on two road trips to California from Texas. These are true Cadillacs in every sense of the Name. Cadillac really got this car to a perfect size. The ride was incredible and It handled with precision. This Eldorado's design was beyond gorgeous. Immediately recognizable as "Cadillac". Oh, how I long for this car to come back!

These are so fun. I get to laugh and learn throughout. for the backseat..."hookers or golf buddies..." Im dyin! Body on frame was a new thing for me to know. The history of Leland was a great part as well. I have a white "85 Commemorative Edition Eldorado and and I appreciate it much more after watching this. I agree that this particular one is the last of the Cadillacs with the stainless steel roof and the formal vinyl a true touch of indulgence. Thank you Bill.

I has an '82 base trim level (used in '95) that I LOVED, then in 2000 I bought a used '92 that was SUPERB and that ten year difference was like night and day! I'm sorry Bill, but Lincolns didn't ride as plush as a Cadillac, and GM didn't use those unreliable air bags as Lincoln did to achieve their plush ride. I'd have another '92-'02 Eldorado in a "NYC minute!" Wonderful cars indeed!
