Damn man, looks great. I had a 79 cb650 project that I ended up having to sell because parts for the 79 were adding up to more than I wanted to spend, (lot's of carb and top end work). Looks absolutely great all done though, I was goin for a very simmilar look too and it's nice to see the potential in these bikes. Hoping to find a 550 now or a 70s era 2 stroke like an rd350 for my next project. Again tho, great job man.

Sick build for sure. I would deff recommend upgrading those pods to k&ns though if you ever have the itch to fiddle some more. I had some very similar silver ones I got off ebay and they ran pretty well, but when I switched to the k&n ones (bit shorter more rubber connecting the mesh to the base and kinda reddish color. Can't remember the model numbers) it smoothed out my bike a ton. I had been getting some popping and stuttering no matter what I sis with my sync and jetting but the filters smoothed it all out. Deff worth the extra 100$ or so. Again, REALLY love your build. Bare tank is a nice touch and that batt box is super clean. Voltage meter is slick too. Good job man

Great job on the bike mate. Just wondering about exhausts in general. I have a 1979 CB650 and see alot of upgrade exhausts for CB550's & CB750's, but not many for CB650's. After looking a little deeper it is starting to look like a CB550 exhaust could maybe be the same size and fitment, did you find that? Or is it different again....?
@DRugfree19875 жыл бұрын
Far as I know the cb550 will not work with the cb650. Because the exhuast is larger on the cb650. I would know. I had both. That was one of the main reasons I keep the stock head then used a universal megaphone exhuast off ebay

Hi Love the work you did on the bike I'm from Ireland and I am working on my 650 and have hit a couple of issues I am really hoping you might be able to give me some help. I have read and looked at everything and Im coming across different opinions and I think getting information from someone who has done it will make all the difference. 1. like you I have comstars but bought 77 cb550 spoke wheels. Did you just do a straight swap. I put on the back spoke wheel on and there is a large space, what size spacer did you use? 2. What pods did you use and what jets did you put in to match 3. is the front wheel a straight swap, I think you changed the brake callibar if so what did you use? I would be grateful if you could give me some time and share your experience Regards Derek
@DRugfree19876 жыл бұрын
Derek Crawley GM the wheels I used were from a 75 cb550. I reused the old axle. and grinded down the spacer from the comstar to fill the space. stock caliper in the front. I think I had to put a spacer between the fork and caliper to make it work. I can't remember the size jets I used but I found a good write up on Chin on the tanks website. pods were just cheap pod I found on ebay that were the size of the carb inlets. hope that helps. and good luck with the build

you are a gent, thanks a mill for the quick response and for comming back it helps a lot. Where you not nervous with the alignment of the front sprocket with the 75 rear sprocket....is there a why of checking alignment other than running a chain on it

HiJust an update and a quick question if you would be so kind. I have the back cb550 wheel on, took a bit of playing around with spacers but I have come across a problem with the front. I bought 77 cb550 forks but I am suspecting that the tripple tree of a cb550 is wider than a cb650 because the CB550 front axle is about a inch to long and brakes dont line up. So the question: Did you use the CB550 tripple of the 650??? I'd guess the 550 but want to be sure if I have to buy onethanks againDerek
