Honestly, I would love to go back to a time where Mtv actually play music videos and have unpolished award shows.

The nuances of celebrity and MTV interactions were top notch throughout the mid 80s and early 90s! Musicians were pushing the envelope of what they would do in rehearsal vs the show, I think. This lead MTV to write off certain genres due to big bands antics at the time Thinking the performance where heavy rock band member climbed scaffolding during a speech and then later Limp Bizkit fans throwing stuff at Carson Daily at the Woodstock revival. Crazy times

1:10 See, here's my problem with comparing "Express Yourself" to "Born This Way" -- if you listen to the lyrics, their themes are completely different. The former is a woman telling her friend that she and her man both need to tell each other how they feel about each other so that true love can blossom between them. It _became_ an anthem of expression when it was co-opted by LGBTQ+, but that wasn't the song's actual theme. "Born This Way", however, is _only_ about free expression in its lyrics.
