He has an award named in his honor. Relax. He's great. One of the best ever. Arguably greatest two way player ever. Arguably greatest defensive player ever. Arguable and most of the time a lock 🔒🔐 in most all time top 10's. Just repeat it enough to yourself till he's overrated.

I put Olajuwon @ the #1 of greatest Centers, and people often think I've lost my mind. However, I think he could shutdown any legend @ the Center position. Olajuwon certainly dominated the great Centers of his era. I know The Dream doesn't have monster states such as, most career points scored like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar or six rings like MJ. In my opinion, what sets The Dream apart is his consistent defense and his footwork on offence and defense.

@@lhart99 i think alot of people agree with you. And he was the certainly #1 of his era he's largely considered best of modern era along with Kareem and many don't really consider Kareem outside his generation and because his politics if from his generation. Russell and Wilt are dinosaurs to many and almost belong to a different sport. Hakeem did have monster stats though, blocks and steals. He's the all time blocks leader. Alot of people have played basketball since blocks were counted and Hakeem did it the best during that time with crazy stats for his size.

Yeah, and their new uniforms were so hideous for certain too! That along with the Rockets cartoony logo during the mid 90's to early 2000's, which made them resemble an expansion franchise more than anything! It wouldn't have been so bad if they just went straight to their more basic look of what they had in 2003 onward, which was at least far more acceptable. The Suns did kind of go back to a design which paid homage to their original one they had until 93. That being even if it was just so dull and plain compared to their more flashy previous uniforms, which everyone loved however.

Yes! I personally think he's the most versatile Center, ever. Most blocked shots of all-time, best footwork in the paint, could shoot from the outside, fade away , could run the floor, pass, smart as well. He's never really got his due, and guys like Shaq and Chamberlain could never dream of having his skill-set for that position.

Same with my state of New Jersey, where you'd see Bulls, Knicks, Lakers, Suns, Magic, and even Hornets apparel almost everywhere, while you couldn't find anyone wearing Nets gear to save your life during the 90's! Not until the Jason Kidd era did I FINALLY see that begin to happen at last! Granted the fact that the Nets were such a garbage franchise with a weak fanbase until then didn't exactly help, but still. At least you saw a reasonable amount of Devils stuff being worn and what not. Even if they got good during that time period, that was still despite them playing second fiddle to the Flyers & Rangers, depending on what part of the state you were in though.

Devil's won 3 rings in the Brodeur era or more right ? I was a Chicago raised Kidd Nets era fan. After Jordan Eddy Curry 🍛 wasn't cutting ✂️ it so I looked for a new hero post Jordan and Pippen so I chose JKidd. As Gary Payton started to disappear from the Western Conference Playoffs by years 99-02 before the Bucks trade for Ray Allen. And I was a point guard @ school so I gravitated and modeled myself after Kidd. Especially cuz I'm Puerto Rican and I have mulatto appearance so I also felt kinship to Kidd and KMArt and all these less than BLACK black guys. Kittles and RJ también. Fun squad for me. I had a Kidd jersey. In Chicago.

They would dump the ball into Olajuwon and if they doubled he would kick out for a wide open shot to all those guards. The would shoot 60% from 3 in a some of their biggest games.

@@jlowrey68 just the statement u left is a lil sensationalized and childish to me. Spoken with enthusiasm that is just a lil odd to me. And to the other guy, the Houston Rockets were the best 3pt shooting team of the mid 90s but aren't better than the 2016 to present Warriors. Or before that for the Warriors since Splash revolutionized the game. Maybe I can see if he means all time Houston is the home of the greatest 3pt shooting franchise of all time compiling Hakeem 's teams with McGrady and Hardens eras... But then the Warriors have some teams to fire back at that statement as well. Like Run TMC Baron Davis era Gilbert Arenas and to Curry and Klay. But the Suns also have a stake and Portland and Seattle aka Thunder thru Westbrook and co. And hell speaking of 3's the Sonics dropped 20 on Houston in Game 2 of 1996 WCSF so basically aired out the best artillery from deep team with their own weapon 🔪 that day. And smoked them out that playoffs and essentially out of the decade after that.

People think of Horry as just "Big Shot Bob" the 3pt specialist, but when he was in his prime he was an athletic freak and lock down defender. Thorpe was a rock in every respect, and Olajuwon was Olajuwon: one of the best 2-way players in NBA history. John Starks in Game 6 played the best game of his career. While Ewing was struggling, Starks almost carried the Knicks to the championship before Olajuwon's rejection in the final seconds denied the Knicks the championship. In my opinion, his might have left his entire shooting stroke in Game 6 and was 3/18 in Game 7. To this day, I will never blame Starks for his shooting disaster because he played his heart out for the Knicks but I can blame Ewing for being outplayed against Olajuwon throughout the whole series. Pat Riley deserved the blame too for leaving Starks in the game when he wasn't shooting well and he should have placed in Davis or Blackman in the game for 3pt shooting. If the Knicks would have won the series Derek Harper would have been the MVP of the Finals because he shut down Kenny Smith and Vernon Maxwell until Game 6 and 7 along with him shooting well averaging 20+ in the series as well.

Brandyn Henry Hey, the Buckeyes have better overall success but the problem with the Gophers sports program has been their geographic location, and their facilities. People don't really like dealing with Minnesota winter specifically with the basketball teams, another problem has been they haven't invested enough money to improve their facilities because most of the buildings haven't received a lot renovations and they are really old buildings.

I don't know why these topics have come up, but I'll address them: 1) Why are people discrediting the Rockets' titles? Jordan retired, so the show shouldn't go on? People come & go, but the games continue to be played. 2) Supposed rust on MJ's part isn't an excuse for the Bulls' playoff loss in '95. The Bulls went 13-4 in the 17 regular season games he played in. In the playoffs, his stats were better than they were in the 95-96 playoffs. His averages in the series against the Magic: 31 points per game, .477 FG%, .231 3PT%, .796 FT%, 6.5 rebounds per game, 3.7 assist per game, 4 turnovers per game, 2.5 steals per game, 1.8 blocks per game. 3) Would the 93-94 & 94-95 Bulls have beaten the 2 Rockets' title teams? If the Bulls had Jordan in 93-94, I think it would've been an absolutely incredible series. The more I think about it, the more I change my mind as far as who would win. As far as 94-95, the Rockets would've destroyed that Bulls team. What's the missing link? Horace Grant. From 91-92 through 94-95 (his last 3 years with the Bulls, & his 1st year with the Magic), he averaged at least 12.8 points (15.1 in 93-94), at least 9.5 rebounds (11 in 93-94) & a field goal percentage of at least .508. (By comparison, Scottie Pippen led the 94-95 Bulls with 8.1 rebounds per game, followed by Jordan's 6.9 & Will Perdue's 6.7.). In the '95 playoff series against the Bulls, Grant averaged 18 & 11 on .647 shooting. That rebounding void is the reason why the Bulls traded for Dennis Rodman. 4) Why do so many people act as though Jordan did nothing other than score? Scoring was obviously his greatest asset, but that doesn't mean he didn't do anything else. (Look at the stats if you don't believe me.)

Horry would've gave Pippen huge problems. He had a size advantage, was just as athletic, and had the 2nd best defensive rating on the Houston team. The Bulls wouldn't have had a chance if Horry took Pippen out the series, which is a great possibility he would've.

@Blue Skeptic He wasn't? That's a good one he most definitely was, his impact on that end against Orlando was proof of that. He was a good perimeter defender it was PF's like Barkley, Kemp, and Malone that gave him trouble considering he wasn't an inside player.

Jordan said during his first three peat, after a regular season hammering by Hakeem, "we're lucky they never get out of the west because we have no answer for the big fella." Also remember in 93 Jordan was burned out even before the murder of his father. If he had kept playing he would not have been quite asas good. It was the two Years off that rejuvenated him. It is a fantasy that he could have played those two years and been exactly the same MJ as. He was before and after

If it's the 94 Bulls roster with MJ in his prime than I'd go with the 94 Bulls in 6. With the addition of a prime MJ and Kukoc it's a stronger roster than the 93 version. Although they wouldn't have an answer for Hakeem they would have enough bigs to battle the Rockets on the boards and the strategy would either be let Hakeem get his(which is just single coverage) and slow everyone else down(like the Knicks did in the 94 Finals which was very effective but only because they had the personnel to do so) or double Hakeem and force the shooters to beat you. If it's the 95 Bulls roster with Horace Grant gone to Orlando and no Rodman yet than I'd give it to the Rockets in 6. Bulls wouldn't have an answer for Hakeem and much like the Bulls had no choice but to double Shaq that year against Orlando the Bulls would be forced to double Hakeem setting his shooters up for wide open jumpers. If the Bulls decide not to double than Hakeem destroys them single coverage(just like Shaq did their bigs in the Orlando series). The Bulls get dominated in the paint and most likely loose the rebounding battle also. If it's the 96 Bulls roster than just like when MJ hit "The Shot" over Craig Ehlo "THE BULLS WIN! THE BULLS WIN!" in 5 or 6. With the addition of Rodman, Bulls have the ability to guard Hakeem in single coverage(just like they were capable of doing against Orlando that year) and the combination of that along with the Bulls team defense(plus perimeter defense) the Bulls present a real problem for the Rockets. In any case, the Rockets 95 run along with their 94 run is probably the most difficult runs in NBA history. Hakeem won the championship in 94 with no other All-star teammate. Meanwhile every other team he faced in the playoffs that year had at least 2 All-stars on them. So Hakeem's 1st championship had nowhere near as much help as any other center. In 95, Hakeem got an Allstar teammate in Clyde but they played from a 6th seed and never had home court advantage in any of their series but still won. The difficulties of these championships along with Hakeem practically having no weakness in his game and dominating all the best centers in the Golden age of Centers is why Hakeem is the Greatest Center of All-time.
@ChrisM07
@ChrisM07 4 жыл бұрын
The Rockets had Carl Herrera who could've defended Kukoc he was another athletic big they had along with the frontcourt starters and Kukoc struggled against that kind've defense. They could still win even if they were struggling from the perimeter because of their half court play on both ends, the Rockets had a more undersized team the following year and with Drexler played at a more uptempo pace so they had to shoot jumpers at a high clip to win most of the time.

Rockets would have won both series 94 & 95 Championship Years. Vernon Maxwell on Jordan in 94 and Drexler on Jordan in 95. Maxwell guarded Jordan better than anybody ever did. Part 2: To everyone that's discrediting the Rockets' titles because of Jordan's retirement (or suspension): The '95 Bulls would've gotten DESTROYED by the '95 Rockets. The '95 Bulls couldn't even beat a Magic team that got swept by the Rockets (despite Jordan's averages in that postseason being better in every single category than they were in the '96 playoffs, with the exception of 3PT%, FT%, & turnovers per game). Against the Magic, he averaged 31 points (on .477 from the field, .231 from 3-point range, & .796 from the line), 6.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists (& 4 turnovers), 2.5 steals & 1.8 blocks, so "rust" isn't an excuse. Horace Grant's departure was vital, which is why the Bulls later traded for Dennis Rodman. Now, if Jordan were on the '94 Bulls, they definitely would've had a chance to beat the Rockets. (The more I think about that one, the more difficult I think it is to pick a winner.).

Part 1: To everyone that's discrediting this title by the Rockets (&/or the second one) because they didn't play the Sonics: All you can do is play who's in front of you. It's not the Rockets' fault that the Sonics choked. They blew a 2-0 lead (in a best-of-5 series) against a team with 21 fewer wins in '94, & then lost 3 games to 1 (including 3 straight, after winning Game 1 by 25) against an underdog with 9 fewer wins in '95, so the Sonics must not have been that good. Do you wanna go through the history books in every sport & attach an asterisk next to every team that was "lucky" to not play a particular opponent in the playoffs?

94 Rockets vs bulls series with mj would have been an epic 7 game series but i do believe houston would have won. MJ would have gotten his points but the rockets would have doubled him the bulls would have had NO answers for hakeem & even worst the bulls would have had to double hakeem which is something they didnt do for any other center including shaq. double teams on hakeem would open up smith, maxwell, horry & elie all were very good 3pt shooters. maxwell had no fear and even out played mj in a few of their meetings horry & were elite defenders. if the these 2 teams met in 95 the rockets would have beat them in 5 but most likely 6. bulls were a worst team in 95 than in 94 with basically no interior defense with grant and houston with drexler & horry playing strech 4 making it even harder to double hakeem.

If mj never lost any competition he wouldn't have gotten cut from his high school basketball team. If mj never lost why did he lose back to back game 7's against Detroit? Those 90's bulls team were great but they also faced water downed competion during the seacind 3 peat. Those Seattle & Utah teams they beat weren't as good as they were in previous years. Stockton & Malone were past their primes by 97. The only team the bulls faced that was close to their level was the 93 suns & they needed the refs help to beat Seattle in game 7.

In 90s none of the superstars that faced bulls in playoffs wasn't able to dominate the games as MJ did. That all I'm saying. I loved those rockets teams, and on paper they could have beat bulls, but in reality it always happened that Jordan would elevete to another level..... averagin more asist then Magic in 91 finals, destroying Drexler in 92, averagin 41 ppg against suns in 93..... In that strech 91-98 nobody was able to beat MJ.

peskelj Yeah MJ jacking up a lousy 40% FG to beat New York in '93 and struggling most of the games while Hakeem lost vs a more talented Sonics team, leading Houston in scoring, rebounding, blocking, steals & assists. Its a good thing Mike had more help than any other star in the 90s :).

the 94 rockets would have ended bulls reign with jordan on that team.
