Turning the blood and gore off isn't really a weird option, that was basically industry standard in older M rated games and still relatively common now. The final release of half Life even lets you lock blood and gore behind a password.

There are, but Valve has no plans of releasing them, you probably know about them. So far only 2 of them have been released. 1. 9/4/97 0.52 Journalist Review disc 2. 10/25/97 Marc A. Tardiff & Geoff Keighley discs (this version is close to the green hud screenshots in the preliminary findings disc, you can see them in combine overwiki) 3. 12/16/97 Geoff Keighley disc 4. E3 build (May 1998) Geoff Keighley disc 5. 10/16/98 net test 1 Spenser Norrish disc 6. 10/20/98 net test 2 Spenser Norrish & Chad Jessup discs 7. Brett Johnson has many of his old maps archived, at least the first chapters, but Valve didn't allow him to release anything. 4 other builds we know of but might have been lost 1. a build from what seems to have been August 1998 for Sierra Employees (probably full version of the first day one disc) 2 & 3. somewhere in what might have been early 98 (it has assets from late 97) Michael Houston got all the assets to use in the Dank and Scud episode, later he got assets from probably August-September due to the Coca Cola trademark copyright. He can't find either of those discs. 4. an evaluation build from October 12, 1998 for reviewers. The retail builds are from October 29 & November 4

that cabinet file is the installshield cabinet file, which has different format to the standard windows cabinet file, i used uniextract to extract it, since the setup exe didnt want to work on my machine, so i extracted it manually, i also opted to patch out the timebomb so i don't have to set my computer time, not sure why other people haven't done it already, if enough people want it, ill release my patched exe

I miss the late 90s-early 2000s when every game had a similar installer. I always loved the moment you finally got to the actual install part and the disc drive would spin up like crazy, then after installing if you ejected it the disc would feel really hot. Sometimes the disc would slow down/stop mid install and you'd be worried if it failed

Fixed aspect ratio was a pretty common part of a lot of games. It makes sense though. Helps to control what a player can see especially for cutscenes and stuff. That cab file might have something in it, but it could very easily just not be a Windows cabinet file, but Windows only looks to the extension to say what a file may be. Someone would have to look at its data to see what it might be or if it's totally custom, write an extractor for it, but it could easily also just be a renamed file of some other format. 7zip is pretty comprehensive but it can't deal with everything, especially odd game formats. It might even just be a file that is normally distributed with the release version of half life and there's nothing new/special in it other than the files it already installed.

i think the net test was used for playtesting for people who participate from the valve playtesting method that they still use to this day. Maybe the comms center chapter was cut due to pacing issues or something

Cool and yet not so much. Alphas are usually more interesting, especially if the gameplay was vastly different to the final game (Stalker for example). Betas are too close to the final product to be much of a treasure chest of hidden secrets. Even then the stuff that is found usually has zero relevance to the game. Any leak of early versions of games in my book is only interesting if it's a leak for a platform the game wasn't officially released on (e.g. Half-Life Gold for DreamCast), or contains source code of the game that allows for modern ports and fixes (e.g. Thief), or comes out so early that you can play the game in advance before its commercial release (e.g. Doom 3 Alpha, HL2 Beta).

@@AeroSourceGOAT Not sure what you mean by "proper" HL2 Beta, but the first playable version of HL2 that leaked in 2003/2004ish was a beta version that seemed pretty much complete. However, there were no level transitions. You had to manually select the levels from a menu screen. I think this release was based on the files that German hacker stole from Valve back then.

that didnt do anything or work for me, many people testing the disc found the same to happen -- edit: i should also mention it was not an ISO, it was two files, a .cue and a .bin. I think it was just an old way of doing things that windows wasnt able to mess with

@@AeroSourceGOAT sadly, you can't repackage using just Windows, I've repackaged stuff using ImgBurn a while ago for some ps1 game and it worked fine, but can't remember how I did it, I'll check out winCDEmu tho, gotta love open source projects!

@@AeroSourceGOAT damn. I hate when people hoard data discs like that. One time i heard of someone who has a zelda beta cartridge but won't release it to keep the value high or something. They need to be preserved and studied for generations to come, discs and carts rot over time

You don't need a cd program tho, Windows can mount iso files natively.

its bin and cue files not iso, you need a external program to load those. You can get away with extracting the contents of the bin and cue files just to install, but it has a disk check functionality. So you either need a cracked exe or a program to mount the bin and cue files. Mounting the retail ISO does work to bypass the disk check though.

did you apply some filter on your voice? it's weirdly stereo and harder to hear than just watching the video in mono, and there's no subtitles either

Yeah if u see some of the other comments on most audio devices it sounds fine, but on some the stereo shaped sound is very odd. I’ve fixed it now but my next few videos were already made so they’ll have the same effect unfortunately

Isn't mounting a disc image built in to Windows? I swear I've done that in the past without a third party program.

for .iso files yes! But this beta dump was a .cue and a .bin, so you need an external tool to use those. or you use an external tool to turn it into an .iso and run it that way but at that point you may as well just use something like wincdemu to run the cue and bin.

If you see some of the other comments the files that came for the disc were a .cue and .bin file, so you’re unable to mount them with windows 11

I have an small question Is there I somehow to run this game on windows xp sp 3, I tried dowloading no cd patch or timebomb but said "insert disc half life" like three times pop out, I tried other one from github but that didnt worked.... So this means I need CD disk to make this works?

Im not sure to be honest with you, you shouldn’t need the CD itself to make this work though since it has all the cd files on there

@@AeroSourceGOAT so maybe the patches don't work because some reason showed me like "please insert the half life disc" when I used no CD patch or timebomb from archive, I tried to do research from steam guide that made how to work but it's kinda looks poorly tutorial how to do it so yeah, it's confusing to do it

2:11 you type sv_cheats 1 and then restart and type impulse 101. Did you play half life 2 instead of 1 and 1:25 The game doesnt have widescreen and the resoluion only change in the gameplay not the menu. The old version of half life is the same as the steam version, They added widescreen and new worst ui
