I was thinking about that too. I tried A4 b8.5 2.0TDI 120HP, and B5 is much more fun and feels better to drive. Only good side is noise isolation on newer one, all the rest is much better in the old b5 ;). A4 became so heavy and different. Now, A3 sedan might be good replacement, but it does not have "real" quattro like B5. I will try it. I have 1995. Audi A4 B5 Quattro 1.8T (basic 1bar tune), still going good, love it.

If you meant by masking old cars new, same looks but new everything else plus more modern equipment, I FULLY agree. The 90's in particular have the most appealing cars to me at least.

Almost 22 years here, December 1995 :), paint and body of this car is amazing. No rust at all anywhere.I had Audi 80 before it, it was well done too. Not sure about b6/b7.

This model has aged very well. You don't see many about now but when you do they are normally still quite smart looking with good paint, no rust and decent interiors. Perhaps not a sporty car, but definitely a quality car. I would have one, it's just a shame about the image problem Audi has nowadays. Back then they were both classy and relatively exclusive. A far cry from today!

In my opinion this was better built and overall quality than the later B6 generation

For sure. The B6 follows a new architecture in making the body.. It feels much less tough. The suspension is very similar though with the addition of multilink in the rear across all models. (with B5, only the Quattro).

My old Ford Escape was literally falling apart. I got 6 good years out of my 2005 with 427K on it. I ended up buying a 1999 Audi A4 because it was close to me, it was cheap and it is.a Quattro. I live in Canada, so I wanted AWD. The bonuses are that it's a 5 speed manual and it has every option that I'd want...or didn't know I'd want. The Bose stereo system sounds great, steering is very responsive, it shifts great, handles great. Fold down back seats. It's like an SUV but in a sedan. My only complaint is that it's difficult to get in to or out of. She lays low to the ground. Overall, no complaints, and the V6 has plenty of pep. She's a bit of a sleeper, in my opinion, and it's my first European built car.

Still a great timeless design. I think the 1.8T is the best and easiest to work on. Also many aftermarket performance parts you can get to give you all the HP you need.

bought a 99 1.8t avant love it only down side if you get the fwd when you try n pull away quickly at lights or exploit a gap it spins the wheels when the turbo wakes up

would like to have an input from you guys. found a 2001 A4 1.8t quattro with 153k miles. the passenger side air bag light is on, windows in the rear does't work, and remote does not work. this is the issues. he wants 1800$ since the car been on the market for too long. should i go for it ?

I just bought a 1999 quattro two weeks ago with 231k miles. The only issue it had (after I bought it) was the transfer case axle bolts broke off. Other than that, everything was good. Ask if the owner how much has been replaced; spark plugs, radiator, fuel pump, water pump, shocks, even the motor. The remote isn't an issue if you don't care, if you do then skip out on the car (mine doesn't work either). I'd talk him down to 15 or 1600, but the mileage isn't bad for that old of a car so if he doesn't budge, it's understandable. Just show him that you've got 1500 and you're ready to take it then and there. Long story short, go for it. Just be prepared for German car maintenance stuff.

00-01 , look for rust under and on the fenders. The universal joints both front and back is also a weak point, make sure no noises come from there. Make sure it has been served properly and it will run forever!

I quite like the B5 but I can't find a face-lift model with quattro and a 1.8T or 2.8. Most of them are poverty spec without leather, cruise control, DIN, bose audio and so on. The few cars that have all of the desirable options are holding their value very well.

I have a 01 A4q 2.8l silver/black leather FULLY loaded 160k miles interior is mint still have the emergence kit in the back arm rest and the all weather (vinyl) pass-though bag looks like I was the first one to open it when I was checking it out!.. A few small dings/scratches on the paint but super nice. One owner tell 2017 then he gave it to his sister and that’s when the ding’s/scratches came from I believe.. I only had it a cold months but really like it.. I got a it for a decent price but hard to know what they are worth..
