We would be amiss to consider all black people visioned in europe at that time as enslaved. Many were free and quite wealthy.

For sure fair point, but I'm not talking about all black people. I'm talking about Benedeto who was brought for the Italian court on a slave ship.

Getting comfy for the winter I see. I really like the mystery that surrounds this topic and the more historical background for the video. Although this story was rather sad. In the second portrait it looks as though he has learned to hide himself from the world. I just hope Benedetto found some peace or happiness in his life, no longer having to hide himself.

That's true, there looks to be some kind of emotional wall in the 2nd portrait. Obv just speculation, but it also seems to me that by then he's learned plenty well how to "play the game" to survive in that European society. He's learned which mask to put up and when. And not for winter, blanket-life is all year round! 😁
