Lotus Turbo Challenge 1 is on here, but I think Lotus 2 should have been on here. That game is one of the most fun racing games I have played.

Lotus 2 is fucking awesome. The first one was great but I got my hands on the second one, boxed and everything, for dirt cheap and was blown away by the features. The track editor is simplistic but way ahead of it's time and very functional.

Amazing collection as always sir OSG! Micro machines always killed me back in the day! Not sure what it what my problem was with top down action, just couldn’t get my bearings with anything top down! It’s megadrive and it was part of my childhood, some of the best times of my life so everything gets 10/10 from me! Stay amazing sir OSG!

The Duel: Test Drive II is one of my favorites. Lately I've been playing a lot of Mario Andretti Racing, which has a surprising amount of depth and variety to it's career mode and racing. It's not as polished as some other racers on the system though, and while not that realistic, has a bit of a learning curve.

A great list but i'd have personally had to have Newmann Hass Indy Car Racing & Kawasaki Superbike Challenge in there and probably remove 1 of the Micro Machines & 1 of Monaco games.

F1 is sooooo underrated. Noone gives any credit to an old f1 game but this had incredible fast 3d gfx, excellet sound mix... on the amiga it was called vroom if I am right. Also a masterpiece. Their coders must have been geniuses :) I love your list!! ;)

I love Out Run but i just didnt think that the Mega Drive version was that great tbh. I mean it delivers but its not the version i would play in fact there are a few that i prefer before the Mega Drive version

Yeah its all subjective mate. I think that because ive built a steering wheel addon for my Arcade cabinet i sort of neglect the other versions but i would still play the Saturn, 3DS and Switch versions before the Megadrive

You can't have a best racing games list without including Top Gear 2, Lotus II and at least 1 OutRun game, I'm sorry. The argument that there are better OutRun games on other systems doesn't work, because the same goes for Virtua Racing. It's not a good list :(

My personal favourites were Kawasaki Superbike Challenge and strangely enough Hard Drivin' which is weird, because these days I can't stand Hard Drivin' in any form.

I know it's your list, but I expected Top Gear 2 to be there. I can't recommend it enough, I've never been a fan of sega racing games (or that type of old school racers). But last year I tried it with my brother in a 2 player tournament. We both had an amazing time. You can buy upgrades for your car and that's the catch of the game, but the graphics and speed sensation is unmatched! You end up sweating lol

Where's "Kawasaki Superbike Challenge"?! It always astonished me how the stock SMD could render polygons so much better than the SNES, just shows how far you can get with a fast 68000 processor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/omnIknuhZa6LptU It's simply no contest (SMD even scales the rivals, SNES choppily animates them), and the track shown for the SMD isn't even the most complex one in the game. Hard/Race Drivin' on SMD also smokes the SNES version e.g. And then there's stuff like F22 Interceptor, etc. Obviously, the Super FX chip brought the SNES up to speed, but dare I say it, Kawasaki SC on SMD doesn't seem to throw around much less polygons at equal frame rates than e.g. Star Fox ... 😮 Oh, and I love both systems, so it's not about that. 😁

I love Out Run as you might know..... but i just dont think the Mega Drive version is that great. Lotus blows it away on the Mega Drive... Sega got it right on the Saturn though that version was great. so no...no Out Run games in my list but if you like them than thats ok

I'll never forget seeing in C&VG screenshots of this new console The Mega Drive, and seeing Super Hang On... and then seeing the port I had on my C64 :D Love your videos mate, I havent played many racers on the megadrive so this was a great look at whats out there to play.

for me any time that i wanna play a Racing game via the Genesis/Megadrive, i immediately think of the Road Rash series, not only are the courses beautiful, but punching someone has hardly ever been so satisfying, only better punching sounds is in Streets of Rage 2.

@@oldstylegaming oh i do in fact, if you ever feel like trying to beat that game, enter B,A,Down,A,Start,Start (BADASS!) to start off with a bit of an advantage. i've not beat the game yet, but i've gotten pretty far with that cheat code to help, it's no cakewalk that's for sure. also, in later levels you'll wanna duck down while hitching a ride, people will pop their trunks so you get knocked in the process.

The megadrive had terrible racing games yet it shouldn't have been the way it was-is Road rash 1 and 2 are amazing and saved the megadrive in the racing genre,Virtua racing is the one true saving grace and easily the best racer of the 16bit era,only super mario kart and fzero come close to it The most disappointing megadrive games are either let down by poor or non existent audio or framerate issues Outrun .. framerate and missing sfx Super hangon,v.bad framerate yet amazing audio Rock n roll racing could have/should have been better in the audio department The biggest let down for me is top gear 2,it had the potential to be better than the snes game,a poor mans conversion One game i did enjoy was super monaco gp,it taught me how to use manual gears and the speed gains from using as well as the extra control you have over the car,what it lacked in music,it gained in top quality sfx,very polished game Domark F1 was super cool,vert impressive racer,again jist missing some banging music to race to Another racer that i liked was outrun 2019,again it had audio limitations which i still cant understand,racing games NEED music and they SHOULD have even basic sfx at least ..if the nes and sms can do a racing game with both then why cant the megadrive ?????,im not buying any of the excuses,no way does the scrolling graphics mean you cant have both Just knowing that the megadrive had 10 simultaneous sound channels yet the snes has only 8,i get that many developers used the GEMS audio drivers which didnt help but by the time games like rock n roll raxing and top gear 2 came out,you would think developers would have developed their own better audio tools Even roadrash had audio limitations however it did have (some) sfx minus the engine noise,while a few other games would cut out music audio channels of different less dominant instruments in favour of more important sound effects that aren't always required,top gear 2 on snes does this !!

Great video thanks. Have to say for me there is nothing here that tops Mariokart, F Zero or Biker Mice from Mars from my beloved SNES. SNES had better versions of street racer and rock n roll racing too. Racers are better on SNES 🏆which is weird given the narrative about the Megadrive being faster 🤔

F1 Race MD reminds me of an arcade game from the 80s, I can't remember the title, but it was a good game. F1 World Championship Edition looks a lot like Vroom on the Atari ST/Amiga. I never liked the Micro Machines games. In fact next to the various kart "racing" games, I disliked them the most. The reason being the restriction in how far ahead you can see, it ruined the games for me. F1, ok this was like Vroom 1.1. I don't know how you guys managed to play these games (based on Vroom) with a dpad. Hats off to you. Thanks for the video.

Amiga all through these years so rarely played much on the MD apart from obvs Sonic at a friends. I remember playing Super Hang-On too and being impressed, should've been higher that one Imo, also Micro Machines we played a lot, always great fun that game. RR3 is the same game just with digitised sprites. I love all 3 aswell as Road Rash for the Saturn/Ps1/3DO. When it started to go tits up is when it became RR 3D (PS1) along with RR jailbreak (N64).

No I use a flightstick in my Amiga but I have a megadrive arcade stick and I never thought to use that...I'm gonna try that today

@@oldstylegaming I do find them easier but that's preference....btw the gotek works great, but I did clean the original disc drive did improve but some discs still didn't read so gotek went in and what a improvement, once again thank you for putting me in the right direction 😀much appreciated 👍
