Another great list. I will say as a kid I loved RC Grand Prix, I understand the frustration with the track edge collision but once you master the corners and start winning the game opens up with car upgrades (do you purchase the better breaks now or do you save one more race and get the better motor!) and the last track was epic!

Road Fighter and F1-Spirit weren't released by Samsung, they were Taiwanese releases. They are MSX versions adapted to the SG-1000 and sold as Master System games, probably released around 1992 or even later. The MSX had a similar hardware as the SG-1000 and Colecovision, the difference is on the sound chip, the MSX has 3 channels that produce either tone or noise while the SMS one has 3 tones and 1 noise, the tone channels having a terrible performance as they are not perfect square waves due to a design flaw (which became a headache for programmers when adapting the code from the MSX and tried to sound well). The Korean SMS didn't have many pirate releases like these ones, ironically, the MSX (or rather said, the Zemmix) did. Samsung had the official licence from Sega and always made sure they kept the market legal (as possible at least). A lot of people hate Road Fighter for the spinning as well but it's a very fun game, I got the FC version a few years back.
@Ruudos4 жыл бұрын
I haven't played the Master System-version of Road Fighter but in the NES-version you can recover from the crash. You just have to know how. The manual says that if you're crashing to the right that you have to tap right on the directional pad which is incorrect; it's actually the opposite. I guess it works the same in the Master System-version. It makes a huge difference game play-wise.
@ThomTomful4 жыл бұрын
The version shown is the MSX version, which I suspect was ported to the Master System illegally. But, yeah, if you've tapped another car such that you're just starting to skid, you have a second or two to steer back out of it and recover. It's only once you're spinning that you've lost control and even then if you're far enough from the barrier and stop accelerating you may slow down enough before hitting anything that you can continue without exploding. I've played both NES and MSX versions, and they're very much the same in that regard.
@markchambers38339 ай бұрын
Yeah, the Master System version is an unlicensed Korean port of the MSX game - a "lazy port" where the game hasn't been optimised for the Master System hardware. It's surprising there weren't more MSX/MSX2 ports to the Master System, as the basic architecture of the systems are so similar. Main differences are that the Master System has hardware scrolling and the MSX2 has a vastly superior FM sound chip. You see (a few) MSX games converted to SG-1000 as they were extremely compatible. It's a real shame that there weren't more MSX2 games ported to the Master System, a real missed opportunity.
