The 2007 Godzilla Version We All Forgot

What was the last Godzilla before Monsterverse titanus Gojira came to be? Well the fastest answer would obviously be Godzilla from Final Wars 2004. But that is wrong, for a few minutes of screentime Godzilla was seen in live action in a relatively unknown TOHO movie called Always: Sunset on third street. So What is Godzilla 2007?
Godzilla roars from the Millennium series, as well as roars from the TriStar Godzilla, are reused in Third Street Godzilla, which makes his sound kind of a hybrid between American and Japanese Goji roars.
Why was it forgotten? Why was Godzilla 2007 overlooked? I’m sure there are a lot of fans that know of his existence but there are millions more who are absolutely unawares about it. Well, to put it simply, is that godzilla’s cameo in this movie was just a small part of it and that his character just vanished after that, even though it’s a toho movie. Even though the initial scene of Godzilla causing destruction was enticing to look at, but that was about it for the King of the monsters in this movie and hence there was not even a secondary plotline as in the case of cameos like Rready player one’s Mechagodzilla and Shinkansen’s Snow Godzilla. That was all we got on him.

For me this Godzilla has the body of GMK, The eyes resemble GMK, the tail looks like it’s from Heisei Godzilla, and the dorsal fins hmmmmmm….I would say 2000 Godzilla.

I remember watching this back in 2008/2009, it was from the movie Always 2: sunset on third street. This brings back childhood memories of when I was an 8-9 year old, looking up about Godzilla, Jurassic Park, and even cryptids on the internet. I personally like the design of this Godzilla, it’s ghostly and demonic appearance is taken directly from the GMKgoji suit design, despite this model being CGI.

The latest design from Legendary pictures was my fave, but the Universal Ride Godzilla completely owns the Legendary version, as well as all known versions of Godzilla. (imo)@@mindq4328

Fun Fact: Although there were some scenes that used CGI for Godzilla himself in the films from the Millennium series, this 2007 version of Godzilla was the first Godzilla from Toho to be built, rendered and animated exclusively with CGI. What came after that from Toho was Shin Godzilla in 2017 that was also built, rendered and animated exclusively with CGI.

Hopefully 2007 Godzilla will be remembered since the director Takashi Yamazaki is chosen to direct a new Godzilla reboot that's scheduled to come out on the Anniversary of the 1954 movie, November 3rd, this year. And it's said to take place post WWII either in the 1940 or 50s. It essentially sounds like a modern remake of the original Gojira.

I have actually seen this movie and I was in Japan when I did. I was stationed (USN) in Yokosuka and at the apartment housing I lived in the front desk staff would show Japanese movies in the community lounge on Friday night. I was almost always the only one there but I loved seeing them.

The head is a mix of GMK and Heisei. The eyebrows and eyes don’t jut out as much and are more flushed against the head than the GMK godzilla design and the head is also slightly flatter similar to the Heisei godzilla. The mouth is also less mammal-like and more reptilian although that could be slightly similar to the Miregoji design. Of course the GMK features are the white eyes and the long neck. The atomic breath is also similar to the GMK breath but not as explosive.

I really don't think this is supposed to be Godzilla. In the immediate scene following it, a bunch of kids tell the writer character, "You're just ripping off 'Godzilla'!" implying that he's writing about a different, though, similar monster. It just has all the Godzilla bells and whistles because it's a Toho movie and they have those available to use.
