The key slot charges the key, but also copies the current diagnostics onto the key. When you go to the dealer they can put the key in a cradle and read all the information off it (mileage, error codes, current maintenance data, etc.) Also, it carries over settings like preprogrammed radio stations, etc. So each key can have different favorites. I need to test if it keeps track of different settings for the steering wheel adjustment, as I am wondering now what else it stores. I have the 2013 X35i.

i just got a 2013 50i m sport. it's awesome and pretty fast
