I made the mistake of saying that one time. As I recollect he was right, and no, I don't talk to this guy anymore unless I absolutely have to.
@TheJacobshapiro
@TheJacobshapiro 6 жыл бұрын
It’s because trucks aren’t actually about utility anymore. The majority of them are used as luxury vehicles, not as a work vehicles. A lot of the people I know who work in traditionally “truck friendly” jobs like handymen or construction workers use old Japanese trucks or compact SUVs. New American trucks are gigantic and usually saddled with BS luxury features, making them too expensive for the demographic that actually uses trucks for their intended purposes.

The sensor/module is right where the print is. I would also guess the print is to explain why there is no "light" in that area of the lens. Same with the F150's, it is dark where the sensor is.

“Performance is excellent.” “Performance is fantastic.” “This feels like the fastest midsized truck on the market; it’s really, really impressive.” “The powertrain is fantastic.” “If acceleration matters to you [...], this is compelling” “Shockingly quick” Acceleration: 2/10
@LGaragem
@LGaragem 6 жыл бұрын
It has great performance for a truck. The truck feels very fast. Unfortunately, acceleration in the Dougscore is measured globally, so of course a Compact truck can't compete with the Audi RS3, for example.
@bigred22685
@bigred22685 6 жыл бұрын
When you consider a 918 Spyder is a 10, a compact pickup getting a 2 actually is impressive. It's all relative. Anything slower than 4 sec 0-60 gets a 5 or lower from Doug.
@bassb450
@bassb450 6 жыл бұрын
That's why some of his reviews are BS. Makes no sense at all.
@gaedzable
@gaedzable 6 жыл бұрын
Dougscore acceleration scoring is done the right way. It is vehicles vs vehicles. It makes no sense that a car with 8 point acceleration would be slower than a car with 4 point accelereration. 0-60 mph times are only thing that matters in acceleration.
@emptyshirt
@emptyshirt 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the Doug score thinks the difference between 3 seconds and 3.5 seconds is as important as the difference between 6.5 seconds and 7, so like 90% of all cars on sale get a 0 out of 10.

We can thank (or not) safety regulations for it's size. The older Ford Rangers fondly adopted the nick name "Danger Ranger" because of their piss poor crash safety ratings. It was a cute little death box. All the same I do still love those old rangers & see a lot of them on the road today. But Ford had to give the ranger more rigidity & ability to absorb more collision inertia in order to meet today's market regulations. Not to mention the door dinger that everyone must love so much because it is standard in every ford since like 2014.

So say what you want about price, but you're going to pay the same no matter which one you buy. as for "f150 territory" again, go shopping... fully loaded f150 lariet is going to cost you around $65k and up... if you get just the xlt f150 4x4, you are at 50k... ranger xlt 4x4... 35k... do a little research... thats the msrp pricing... look it up.

A 15 minute remote start time is nothing in northern Canada, where it's pretty common to need a second 10 minute re-start to get heat moving in the cab. I think calling any of these trucks "compact" is ridiculous. Co-worker's new Colorado is larger in all dimensions than my 98 full size GMC Sierra. It's taller, longer, and if it's not wider, we're talking fractions of an inch different. They're not compact, they're only less "full size" than the behemoths that full size trucks have become. You want to call something a compact truck, bring back the size of the OLD Ranger - or the old S10/S15s. THOSE were compact trucks. The new Ranger/Colorado/Canyon/Tacoma are full size trucks. Not a compact thing about them. (And yes, I realize I'm saying compact instead of "mid-size" but since there is no actual "compact" option in existence, that makes this the de facto compact. "Mid" implies that it's in between two other sizes.)

Base price for the new Ranger starts as low as $24,300. It is available in 4-wheel drive. The Ranger may have been a compact when it left us, but has come back as a midsize... and a midsize with best-in-class (gas) towing and payload at that. The price is not outrageous for what you get. Literally every other currently available midsize pickup can also have an msrp over $40,000 depending on trim and options and the Ranger and Nissan Frontier are the only midsize trucks that cant get over $50,000 msrp. Not bad for a truck that boasts best-in-class performance all the way down on the base trim.

The Ranger looks bloated for a "small truck". Acres of sheet metal, shaped like a barn, chock full of expensive gewgaws.

It's a truck. The old Ranger was square, this one is rounded like all the rest save the upcoming Jeep. It's a bit smaller than the Tacoma. Exactly what is your point?

NotaBRZ NotaMiata his point is that ford completely missed the market they were aiming for by choosing a poor design for the truck

It's too damned big. Let's go back to the 90s. (Not sarcasm.)

Yeah it’s really lame. Had a 94 ranger before. This thing is a joke. Stupid fat people making everything super sized. Eat less food you fat pieces of shit.

Ford is not bringing Raptor to the US because they want to keep selling the more expensive version of the F150 and they think that a Ranger Raptor will cut into its sales.

Plus the Ranger Raptor's engine was a 2.0 biturbo diesel with only 210 horsepower.
