It’s because trucks aren’t actually about utility anymore. The majority of them are used as luxury vehicles, not as a work vehicles. A lot of the people I know who work in traditionally “truck friendly” jobs like handymen or construction workers use old Japanese trucks or compact SUVs. New American trucks are gigantic and usually saddled with BS luxury features, making them too expensive for the demographic that actually uses trucks for their intended purposes.

It has great performance for a truck. The truck feels very fast. Unfortunately, acceleration in the Dougscore is measured globally, so of course a Compact truck can't compete with the Audi RS3, for example.
@bigred226856 жыл бұрын
When you consider a 918 Spyder is a 10, a compact pickup getting a 2 actually is impressive. It's all relative. Anything slower than 4 sec 0-60 gets a 5 or lower from Doug.

We can thank (or not) safety regulations for it's size. The older Ford Rangers fondly adopted the nick name "Danger Ranger" because of their piss poor crash safety ratings. It was a cute little death box. All the same I do still love those old rangers & see a lot of them on the road today. But Ford had to give the ranger more rigidity & ability to absorb more collision inertia in order to meet today's market regulations. Not to mention the door dinger that everyone must love so much because it is standard in every ford since like 2014.

complain, but why don't you price out other trucks? ranger starts at $24,000, tacoma starts at $25,700 and Colorado starts at 22000.. yet a fully loaded all bells and whistles ranger is $45k, Tacoma loaded... $45k... and colorado loaded is also $45k. So say what you want about price, but you're going to pay the same no matter which one you buy. as for "f150 territory" again, go shopping... fully loaded f150 lariet is going to cost you around $65k and up... if you get just the xlt f150 4x4, you are at 50k... ranger xlt 4x4... 35k... do a little research... thats the msrp pricing... look it up.

A 15 minute remote start time is nothing in northern Canada, where it's pretty common to need a second 10 minute re-start to get heat moving in the cab. I think calling any of these trucks "compact" is ridiculous. Co-worker's new Colorado is larger in all dimensions than my 98 full size GMC Sierra. It's taller, longer, and if it's not wider, we're talking fractions of an inch different. They're not compact, they're only less "full size" than the behemoths that full size trucks have become. You want to call something a compact truck, bring back the size of the OLD Ranger - or the old S10/S15s. THOSE were compact trucks. The new Ranger/Colorado/Canyon/Tacoma are full size trucks. Not a compact thing about them. (And yes, I realize I'm saying compact instead of "mid-size" but since there is no actual "compact" option in existence, that makes this the de facto compact. "Mid" implies that it's in between two other sizes.)

Unbelievable $35000 for a compact 4-cylinder pickup with only 2-wheel drive.
@enlightenedrenegade4726 жыл бұрын
Dan Carlton Yeah. I paid less than a grand for my 2000 Ranger. Granted, it has 286,670ish miles. But it still runs and goes into each gear ok. Mine’s a 2WD V6, but I still wouldn’t pay that much for a pickup that butchered what the Ranger is about.
@dave36825 жыл бұрын
Base price for the new Ranger starts as low as $24,300. It is available in 4-wheel drive. The Ranger may have been a compact when it left us, but has come back as a midsize... and a midsize with best-in-class (gas) towing and payload at that. The price is not outrageous for what you get. Literally every other currently available midsize pickup can also have an msrp over $40,000 depending on trim and options and the Ranger and Nissan Frontier are the only midsize trucks that cant get over $50,000 msrp. Not bad for a truck that boasts best-in-class performance all the way down on the base trim.

You don't live where it gets cold Doug. 15 minutes is completely reasonable. I never let my vehicles idle that long (I manually scrape once it gets a melt layer beneath the ice) but if you're lazy, injured, running late, elderly, etc it does take that long or longer to melt off the snow/ice on a bad day.
