Nope, no GPS; the iPod Touch does have "Location Services" but it uses various Wi-Fi signals to "estimate" your location, which can be quite accurate, it's just that means you need to be in an area where there is Wi-Fi (that you have access to) if you want to use your iPod to "estimate" your location. However, you could use your phone as a mobile Wi-Fi "Hotspot", for your iPod to connect with, to use your phone with your iPod to "estimate" your location on your iPod (using your phone as a Wi-Fi "Hotspot"), it's just that, well, why bother, if/when you have your phone on you, you can just use your phone's GPS to find out exactly where you are, so there would then obviously be no need for you to use your iPod to "estimate" where you are, using various Wi-Fi Access Points. Basically, if you're taking your iPod with you, you'll probably have your phone on you anyway, so the iPod's "Location Services" are sorta pointless and useless; I believe Apple include "Location Services" on the iPod Touch, so people just "assume" it has GPS, just like people assume iMacs/MacBook Airs/Pros, (None-Cellular) iPads have GPS, when they also use various Wi-Fi Signals and Access Points to, again, "estimate" your location. I guess most people would just assume, that because Apple products (MacBooks, for example) are so expensive (for what you actually get, compared to other, similar specification Laptops/PCs/Net Books etc.) and MacBooks also have "Location Services", that "must mean" they have GPS technology/capabilities built in to them and are included in the computer's hardware, but, there is definitely no GPS chip in MacBooks or iPads either (unless you get an iPad 3G, for example, and put a SIM card in it). I have six kids I’d rather fork out $200 for each kid a nice little iPod rather than a iPad that’s $350. My kids are young. My oldest is 8 the youngest is only 1. It’s small it easy to pack around and they have their names engraved on it so no complaining and fighting.

And it doesn't have a screen protector. It's also got wet a few times but its still okay, not water resistant even. Apple would have stopped making them like 10-12 years ago because of no sales, if developers didn't support iPods. Most people buy the iPods to have the same/similar experience they would have on an iPhone, but in a cheap device, not just because of music. For music most would be ok with be the OG iPods and MP3s, the ones who didn't have apps, just music. I used my iPod 4th and 5th for everything, gaming, KZbin, Facebook, Instagram, editing pics and vids (downloaded many apps for that), downloading any app I wanted, just like I'd do on an iPhone. Rarely used it for music. My friends did the same with their iPods (used it as an iPhone). And my iPods all lasted like 5-6 years, which is good. So in other words, the iPods have all those apps because you can USE them, just like on an iPhone, Not because they are decorations or because he had auto app purchases turned on. These iPods are not just meant for listening to music like the video said, that's why they have screens and apps like an iPhone. I alone had like 4 screens full of apps in my iPods, not just 1 😂

The context of the clip here is kind of missing. They weren’t laughing at the possibility of those being packed into one device. Plenty of phones back then already had some of those capabilities - they were just really clunky. The audience was laughing at a joke Steve Jobs was making. If you watch the full video, Steve Jobs opens the keynote/introduction by saying that “Apple is introducing 3 new products!” He describes each product individually, and then he goes on to say “an iPod, a phone, and an internet communicator”. 5 years later, it looks like an even better purchase than before. Modern phones are massive, extremely massive next to the iPod Touch which is the same size as an iPhone 5. Going for a run using this as your music listening device is going to be significantly better than using a more recent iPhone. I think as a strictly music listening device, it doesn’t get better than the 2019 iPod Touch for most people. Perhaps some people would prefer the small size of the iPod Nano, but the touch can do more.

An apple watch might be better though, since you can save offline playlists on the watch and use it as a fitness tracker ad well while running

I love mine as a no distractions music device. Phone in bag, iPod on desk, no notifications or apps to distract me. If I have that itch to pick up a device I pick it up and put it straight back down
