Yep. Spotting HubNut stickers is very satisfying. They're still fairly rare in my part of the world (north of England), so seeing one is like belonging to an exclusive club and knowing the correct secret handshake that will gain you admission. Cue lots of nods and winks and thumbs ups and smiles. Nice one, Ian: spreading a bit of happiness (and silliness) is no bad thing in these parlous times. :-)

Yes, it was certainly one of the more successful estate cars in terms of styling. In fact a lot of people seem to think the estate looks better than the saloon. What really gets me is how small one looks compared to today's cars...

Excellent video Ian, some lovely classic cars there. I've owned some examples of the cars in this video including the Simca 1501, Austin Princess 2200 HLS, Vauxhall Viva HC back in the early eighties. I also owned an Austin Ambassador but unfortunately, mine became a money pit with a catalogue of repairs, which was a shame because despite its problems it was a nice car. My first car was a 1965 Austin 1100 that I bought for £200 back in 1979. which really shows my age. Looking forward to part 2 of this video.

I predict the Ford Ka well might become a collectible in years to come, providing they don't all rot away from the petrol filler cap outwards!! We had an Ambassador VDP the same colour as the example you showed, red A437 JVC, I liked the look of them but always got a shock of it as I locked the door. It was fairly new when we had it.

I hope so, I've owned mine for four years and love it. Yes the rust protection is very poor!!! I'm doing whatever I need to to keep on top of any rust on mine before it takes hold. People forget what an original design the Mk1 Ka was and how it introduced Fords "Edge" design before the MK1 Focus. I hope mine will be accepted at events like this in a few years, but I'm not sure as people seem very snobby about them.

Thanks for that comprehensive tour of the show. I fully agree with you on Lancia Gammas; the Berlina is nicer than the Coupé (and is torsionally stiffer too). One little point about the Coupé Fiat; despite the Pininfarina logo on the dashboard, the exterior was designed by Fiat Centro Stilo under the direction of Chris Bangle; it was the interior that was designed by Pininfarina.

Brings back so many memories seeing those classic cars. A neighbour had a orange Fiat 127 just like in the video. The owner use to freewheel the car out of his steep driveway, once out you could hear him starting it up. The Triumph 1300 a friend of the family had one in Valencia blue, it was 3 years older than my dad's Victor but it had inertia reel seatbelts and a centre rear armrest. But the Victor had more space inside, well it was a bigger car and PAS. Swings and roundabouts.

So much character in those cars, particularly pre-80's. Back in the 80's I thought 70's cars were really ugly and would never be classics, but I changed my mind over time. Even a Fiat 127 looks really stylish to me now, and those Dolomites and 1300's.

Hi Gryf, you would have been in your element where I was on Saturday, a classic car auction in Pickering, North Yorkshire. They had a 79 Midget in Vermillion, a 75 MGB GT Jubilee and an 81 MGB GT LE in silver, all hadn't even been registered, had only delivery mileage on, still had the protective wax on from the factory and had been stored by the owner until now! Obviously they'd need recommissioning etc but how often do you see that? They all got to the £10k mark as provisional which wasn't enough to me. I have a fair bit of classic MG knowledge as I used to work on classic MG's 30 years ago as an apprentice and my favourite has to be the MGA, that car IMO is totally stunning.
