The #HondaCRV was one of the very first compact crossovers in America about 23 years ago. Today, the #CRV has grown to become the best-selling #Honda in America with nearly 400,000 sales in 2019. For 2020, Honda is making slight tweaks to the styling and introducing a first-ever #CRVHybrid which is their first #Hybrid SUV in America. We'll be driving the hybrid next month but the gas CR-V is available today and it still makes for one of the best family vehicles for Americans.

Great review. I drove a RAV4 and CRV back to back...and the CRV accelerated noticeably faster, smoother, and quieter. My husband was in the passenger seat and said he noticed it right away. I am torn between the Toyota and CRV. The RAV4 looks cooler since '19 but I'm a Honda person. I don't mind the size of the infotainment screen, I just don't want to buy it if it has outdated functionality.

I bought the 2021 Honda CR-V EX-L AWD 1.5 L Turbo just the second trim after the Touring one. It is a great vehicle, comfy, spacious, good handling, smooth ride and good for daily and road trips. My trim it comes with sunroof, safety specs, leather and heated seats. The Horsepower and acceleration are not the best but I'm happy with my purchase.

This was a very 'fair' review. I like how the lag was explained rather than just bashing it (like others do). I agree about the WOT simulated shifts... I'm not sure that was really needed. I suppose one could compare the CVT acceleration to a jet airliner -- slow start, but as the air starts to ram, it gets going. This is explained by the steel belt and pulley design that has a 'spooling' effect. I wonder if it does simulated shifts in D or just S drive?

About that 'gear simulation', I have a 2018 civic and 2019 cr-v. The CVT only acts this way if you are in 'S' and floor it. Every other driving situation it does the smooth rpm adjustment that seems to be normal for Honda cvt's. I know a lot of people complain about cvt's and I haven't driven any other brands with cvt's but I love the way the ones in Hondas work. It allows the car the put the transmission right where you need it whether you are trying to pass or just cruising for good gas mileage. Also I have a K-tuner for my Civic which is the single greatest thing you can do for this car performance wise. Eventually I am going to unlock it from the Civic and see how it affects the performance of the CR-V.

My parents bought this car last year and I drove it a few times. It drives very smoothly and it’s pretty quiet. It can also self drive on the freeway or any road in general as long as there’s no sharp turns, but you do have to touch the steering wheel every 20-30 seconds. The only thing I don’t like about the car is that it’s acceleration is kinda weak, I’ve driven a lot of cars and this car has one of the slowest accelerates from my experience. Overall though I do like the car, especially the look of it.

I have a 2018 with over 40 thousand miles. It doesn't hesitate. With the radio on there is no noticeable drone sound unless you absolutely floor it. It averages 28 mpg and I have gotten up to 38 mpg on a trip. Other than oil changes and scheduled maintenance which is minimal, there have been no mechanical problems. There is no oil smell or dilution problem. Service is excellent and it cruises at 80 mph with no strain. I have an EX with the 1.5 liter turbo which I think is an excellent engine. Unless you tow, you can't beat it. It holds more than a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Mazda CX 9. Local dealers discount them so 35,000.00 is actually high even for a Touring model. Mine was 27,000.00 brand new.

Our family still owns a 1st generation 1999 CRV in dark blue with the 2 liter motor, 4 speed automatic, AWD, and AM/FM/CD. The sheet metal is thin, very tinny, has almost no sound insulation, and is about as fast as a diesel delivery truck. But the thing starts up every day with no problems and it is still with most of the original drivetrain and interior parts, this vehicle has been very durable. However, I’m not sold on the current CRV, I like the Mazda CX-5 a bit more.

Being it's a 1.5 liter engine, it would be nice to see driving the car with 4 people inside or extra cargo in the back. It's a suv most likely customers do use it for traveling with more than 1 person or with cargo in the trunk. To see how that small e gine with a small turbo handles with extra weight. Other wise thorough review as always. 👍

I would have one of these in the the driveway if it wasn't for that stupid 1.5T engine. Killing off the excellent 2.4 for the name of probably a slightly smaller carbon footprint while adding complexity and reducing reliability is not what most people want. If you're just leasing, I assume this will still be OK to own, given you don't drive 2 miles to work in sub zero weather. I do like the interior on these, I feel like the overall fit and finish is good. The only gripe is having the old Hondalink system vs the one in the Accord as you mentioned. I like the rest of it just fine.

As an owner of a 2019 CRV, I notice 2 significant changes in the 2020, 1 positive, 1 negative. Moving the USB plug-ins to a more accessible location is a big plus. Trying to plug in the cable (inside the center console) to use Apple car play is a real pain! The negative is the start-stop system. I'm not at all convinced this actually accomplishes much of anything other than being an annoyance to the driver.

I agree, why are all car manufacturers forcing start/stop on us!? I personally hate it and can notice it on every car i have driven with it. Mpg gains are minimal and its constantly putting stress on the starter. Whats worse is you have to turn off start/start every time you start your car.... Car manufacturers need to let us turn it off all the time if we want.

Keep in mind, any "problem" or "issue" however small, is a large number when they sell over 350k CR-V's per year. Just 1% of that is 3,500. A 99% chance of reliability is exceptional; not saying that number is accurate, but just to explain my point. Working at a Honda dealer, I've heard of no instances of the oil dilution at a local level (not in the middle of nowhere, and it's a cold climate). It's still a Honda. Already seen a 2017 with 97k miles and it drove like new.

Even so the choice of going with a tiny boosted motor and a crappy CVT is a deal killer. Just shows how brand loyalty can sell junk. But they might not have much brand loyalty if they keep making crap like this.

@Konos44 the k24 is probably the best 4cyl ever produced in terms of reliabilty economy and tuning potential, if you want economy engine live it stock, if you want more power you can build it for 1000-1500$ with double horsepower over stock.

I have the same oil and gas problem with my small 1.3L Toyota (Scion) engine. I just do oil changes every 5,000km rather than the 8,000km factory recommendation. It needs to be carbon cleaned if it starts to run rough. 330,000km and still going.

"In a memo sent to dealers, Honda’s manager of auto campaigns and recalls, Brad Ortloff, said oil in these engines could be diluted because of software settings or potential hardware failures. Some vehicles could experience “lack of power,” leading to cylinder misfires or engine noise." Consumer Reports "But if the vehicles are stalling, as some owners have reported, this is a safety issue and Honda should conduct an official recall, which doesn’t expire.” Consumer Reports

I wouldn’t say it has “fresh styling”. Maybe a touch up. The front lower air dam , the blacked-out bar, the wheels all better. The Touring always looks good at that chrome bar on lower sides. I tried to get them to just stick them on my 2017 EX but the dealer wouldn’t do it. That movable crept floor in back: the idea is to get the floor tray and put it below the floor usually. The auto-lock walkaway function: very funny. Never worked reliably for me. The screen, 7” - the lack of a channel tune knob annoys me. I think the fake wood Does look good. Going for Acura RDX will cost you about another $10,000.
