Before the “No buy because it still has a CVT comments come in” here are a list of brand new compact cars that only come with CVT’s if you want an automatic: 2020 Honda Civic 2020 Toyota Corolla 2020 Hyundai Elantra 2020 Kia Forte 2020 Subaru Impreza 2020 Nissan Sentra Cars that have traditional stepped automatics: 2020 Volkswagen Jetta (8AT) 2020 Mazda3 (6AT) 2019 Chevrolet Cruze (6AT or 9AT) 2018 Ford Focus (6 DSG) Clearly, the CVT is the preferred transmission in this segment and between Civic, Corolla, Elantra, and Sentra about 1 million units are sold in America every year. If you want a regular stepped automatic, the only car from that list that actually has a good reputation for reliability is the Mazda3. If everyone hated CVT’s and wanted the most reliable car in the segment, than the Mazda3 should be the best-selling small car and it isn’t. Facts are facts :)

Well duh because it's cheaper to make and it helps with the stupid emissions regulations, our problem is reliability particularly Nissan's who are known for poor CVTS. IDC how much CVTS are used, doesn't remove the fact most suck, and only exist because of mpg regulations to gain maybe 1-3mpg. I'll stick with used cars the modern stuff can screw off.

It is a shame that Hyundai decide to put in CVTs for the new Elantra. Maybe if they make a redesign, they could give the Elantra an automatic. But even then the worst CVTs are hands down the Jatco ones in Nissan cars due to poor reliability.

I purchased this vehicle in early April and man am I loving it. I don't have the premium package unfortunately but i do have the orange w/black trim SR edition and its above and beyond anything i've ever had. My 1st vehicle ever was a 1994 nissan sentra so it was nice to go back to what I started with. The new design is great, i have heads turning everywhere. Workers at drive thrus restaurants complementing it. Every one of my coworkers have been giving it props. And it drives smoothly. Great on gas. My best drive so far was 42MPG on a 23 mile drive. I wish sound system was better but i'll upgrade it eventually. Although I'm having a hard time finding out the speaker sizes even with calling the Nissan people. No one seems to know lol. Great review! I also watched Alex's, too, and you both were not just informative, but entertaining with your impressions and extended road tests. And yes, Nissan has had some issues with CVTs, other have also had issues with them as well, and for some reason it hasn't hurt the other brands images. That said, Ford has had multiple issues with their DSG which has also led to a lawsuit, so there's no perfect choice if there is no manual options to be had with a majority of offerings in this class. That said, the previous generation was a pretty attractive vehicle, and this is certainly much more appealing. Aside from those mentioned issues with CVTs, Nissan has otherwise very good quality which I'd say from experience at import dealerships is on par with its competitors.

This new Sentra looks SO good. Proud of Nissan for stepping up their design. Not even mad that it has full incandescent tail lights considering this is a compact car. I think the parking sensors, 360 degree camera, and heated steering wheel make up for it though! Now full incandescent tail lights on the Altima in 2020 is a whole other story...

Multilink susp is a welcome change but are they seriously calling it "the sportiest sentra ever"? like cmon any SE-R would smoke this
@joelgittens68572 жыл бұрын
Yeah it lacks power and it like 400 pounds heavier than the SE-R was. Nissan made 200 horsepower out of an na 1.6 liter engine in the 90's, they're not quite there yet but well on their way to being number 1 again.

I think you guys are missing the point regarding why we dislike the CVT so much. Yes, the CVT that NISSAN uses is garbage no argument there right? I will however state a fact that most of us that like to row our own gears are thinking. Most if not all car manufacturers build standard transmissions for the same cars they sell here but for other markets but they tell us that they "only" sell CVT's here in the US because that is what will make them money. Well, I do understand the business side of it but they are lying when they say that they can "only" offer the CVT. I have traveled all over the world and have seen two things that at first did shock me but then I remembered how things work in the good ol USA. First thing I saw especially in Europe is that almost all cars have the option of a Diesel engine, second thing those same cars have the option of a standard transmission. So how about a pipe dream Nissan? Offer the standard transmission that you already build as an option and charge 1,000-1,500 for it like the auto option was back in the day and see what happens. Not that you would sell a million of them but give the customers the option and I am certain enough people would select that box when ordering/buying their car. I know I would pay extra if given the choice. Just saying...

Wow! Nissan did a thing with this Sentra. I only hope it proves to be a good investment when it comes to reliability. I have a 2011 Sentra and although my transmission has been problem free, it does scare me to possibly upgrade to this model and then have problems with the transmission. Based on looks alone, this model easily triumphs the Corolla and Civic, the only other vehicles I would consider in this class.

Much improved from the last gen. Those criticizing the cvt should actually drive the 3rd gen xtronic cvt with d-step that’s equipped in many of the new Nissan models. It still doesnt give you the driving dynamics of a traditional auto but it feels better than the cvt in the accord and much better than the laggy 8-speed auto in the new Camry. Yes Nissan had some cvt issues in the past but the many failures were due to maintenance neglect from the owner. Unlike a traditional auto, cvt fluid needs to be changed more frequently. Every 30-40k miles. It’s not a lifetime fluid nor can you wait till 100k+ miles to change it.

Was waiting for your infamous Nissan, key fob complaint, and THERE it is @ 3:49! LOL! Dude, the key fob is small, ergonomic, fits in the hand very well, and is unobtrusive when you put it away. Still looks good, still works, why change it? It was ahead of its time and other key fobs merely caught up with it. No reason to change it. Great review, otherwise, S.!
@Naldynator5 жыл бұрын
@Daniel Hernandez I have seen many other manufacturer's key fobs and they're not that different. I don't see how they're better. Just changing something for the sake of changing something doesn't necessarily make it better. And, I don't believe many are complaining to Nissan about their key fobs. I've only heard it's an issue when visiting these reviews.

@Daniel Hernandez Additionally, the fob opens the car, closes the car, opens/closes the trunk and even turns on the car and still remains as small in size as it is. Don't see a problem.

I dont know why people hate on the nissan key. Yes its been around for a long time but i actually think it isnt a bad key. Pretty sturdy and easy to use. Not to mention it has an actual factory remote start on the key unlike a lot of mazdas, toyotas and other competitors that make their keys fancy looking yet skip a much more convenient thing to have like remote start.
