In case the urban folk and international audience are still mystified why mid and heavy trucks are so popular in the US, it’s because our tax authority allows great first year and lifetime use depreciation/write offs of the cost of the truck, provided it is used for commercial reasons over 50% of the time. Even in Year 1. Section 179 tax code depreciation advantage. I worked and lived away from the States for almost 15 years and was myself amazed at the sheer volume of mid and heavy pickup trucks when I returned back full time to the States but after learning about that tax rule, it made sense. Becareful driving a lot in the city could be a headache in the long run with the emission system, make sure you drive 20-30 min on the interstate every 2 weeks to keep your dpf clean. Short trips, in town driving, lots of idle time kills modern diesel when the emission system is in place. God review. The RAM Laramie with the EcoDiesel is an awesome piece of machinery. I'm not interested in an elect truck, though. As soon as you put some extra weight on any electric vehicle, it's range is *SERIOUSLY* affected. It essentially becomes useless for towing, or hauling any payload. In fact, the EcoDiesel is far more environmentally friendly than a purely electric powered vehicle. What would be truly amazing, would be for RAM to come out with a true hybrid system that could be mated with either of the current engines they have on offer. The EcoDiesel, the 6-cyl Pentastar, or the 5.7L HEMI. If they could manage to pull that off successfully, wherein the truck performance, handling and fuel economy didn't suffer with the hybrid section turned off (if needed), while pushing the fuel economy upwards of 40 MPG highway / 25-30 MPG city, that would be a game changer for a lot of people. I think it could be done, but they would need to use lighter/stronger materials to build the truck. Unfortunately, they'd probably gouge the consumers for it.

I wonder what the ram would be like if it had the 5.0L Cummins turbo V8 that was in the Nissan Titan XD (but it would need to be slightly detuned to meet emissions for the 1500 series trucks)
@romulas-cushmanproject32734 жыл бұрын
Der Schwindel nah that’s wasn’t the issue, the main failure was lack of sales and confusion on what the Titan XD was. The Titan XD was NOT a 2500 competitor, it was built to a middle ground between the 1500 and 2500 class (so like 2000) and the retuned 5.6 Endurance v8 and the 5.0 Cummins fit the bill perfectly! The owners I met when I was a porter at a Nissan dealer really liked them, but for most of them this was their first new truck. just the Titan doesn’t sell well. so Nissan and Cummins decided to split because of slow sales. Which sucks because no joke the Titan is a really good and comfortable truck and their 5.6 endurance v8 is really reliable, and you can find them for a good price used. But yet I like to own cars that you don’t see all the time, so this truck also appeals to me in that way too.
@brjha4 жыл бұрын
A V8 diesel in a 1/2 ton would almost axe the need for a 3/4 ton cummins truck. Besides that 5.0 cummins was not a very good powertrain. The eco diesel is the fuel efficient alternative to the hemi.
@romulas-cushmanproject32734 жыл бұрын
brjha I mean it would have to be retuned obviously but I think it would be better fit than the Fiat sourced eco diesel, and the main downfall of it was the transmission the engine itself was good for that weird 5/8 ton truck Nissan was going for
@AkioWasRight4 жыл бұрын
The 5.0L is a very heavy engine, about 900lb. alone, and I don't think that includes after treatment systems or a beefier transmission, which would be necessary to handle the torque. With that much weight, you'd have to increase the GVWR and upgrade the suspension just to maintain the payload rating, which would make it more than a 1/2 ton but still less than a 3/4 ton. Basically, it would be the Ram 1500 version of the Nissan Titan XD, and that segment was proven to not be so hot.
@romulas-cushmanproject32734 жыл бұрын
emdec55 yeah true it would be really heavy totally forgot about the weight, and really the main reason they made this weird in between class is because Nissan knew they would do way worse if they made a true 3/4 ton truck, they just got a lot of sales from people who don’t want a big 3/4 ton heavy duty truck but needs more than what a 1/2 ton could handle Plus it makes it possible to get a crew cab with a 8 foot bed and without having to get a bigger engine (as the XD could still have the 5.6 endurance v8 as the regular Titan)

I have a 2016 Ram ECO Diesel and I like the truck, but I have been waiting over a year for a recall part, the Diesel EGR Cooller . No one should have to wait that long for parts, FCA needs to get going on having there parts available.

Not sure about anybody else and I’m not a full timer but close to a half time RV’r and I see very few of these Ram 3L Diesels around at camp sights. What are your thoughts about why? TY

It’s not overly impressive for tow ability. I’m looking for a 1/2 ton that gets good mileage empty but can still tow up to 10,000lbs when I need it. I’d opt for the F150 3.5 litre Ecoboost myself. I’m waiting to see specs on the new 2021 F150 hybrid 3.5 Ecoboost coming out. I think my saved pennies will be going towards that. They’re claiming 1,100kms per tank empty. If that equates to 30mpg.... I’m getting one!

The engine upgrade is $5k over the base V6 ... but only $3k more than the Hemi. Same as the Ford or Chevy .... it isn’t overpriced in comparison.

It's weird, every other review of the limited night edition has had a HUD. Idk if it's standard or an option but Ram definitely offers it
@hellkitty10144 жыл бұрын
Nice review! Just a few things. The Night editions are the other colors that you want other than black. They offer the majority of Ram's colors with same black trim as seen here(my favorite is Delmonico Red over black). 4x8 plywood does fit flatly between the Ramboxes. On the price of the diesel upcharge, not only does Ram allow diesel on every trim, the competition also ends up being more expensive because of it. Ram's surcharge over the V8s is comparable to Ford and GM, and in some cases less, again because you can get a Tradesman with diesel. No F150 XL(fleet only) or Chevy Silverado LS.(can't get a Trail Boss Custom diesel either). Oh, and a Ford F150 Limited costs $75k, as does a completely loaded GMC Denali, so the price of a loaded Ram is the price of admissions these days.

@Daniel Hernandez unfortunately, no. They do offer it on the Laramie, however.

The Tesla Cybertruck and the Rivian are not going to be relevant. Ram outsells the entire EV market in the United States, and it's not even the best selling truck in the pickup truck segment.

My cousin's EcoDiesel just blew up with only 110,000 miles on it. Dodge told him too bad, even though he bought the extended warranty to 100000 miles for $3500. After looking online, I see that this is a common problem. EcoDiesels are a POS. These engines should be able to get over 300000 miles before they are done. Do not buy.
@surferjc274 жыл бұрын
Same happened to me this past summer. Was a 2015 ram ecodiesel with less than 90k miles. Since the truck was originally sold in Canada, FCA told me they wouldn't honor the warranty but would gladly sell me another one. Hell no!
